I really don’t think there is a ‘contest’ other than in the minds of parts of the media. One brother will be King in time and the other brother wants to leave a meaningful legacy in his own right. So far both are doing a great job in carving out their own lives. I hope the brothers come to a point in time where they can be friends again. Life is too short to hold on to anger. The media doesn’t help by embroiling itself in their relationship - or lack thereof currently. I think many people in many countries would love to see a sense of family togetherness again with all of the current King’s grandchildren getting to know one another. It would show how a public facing family can overcome its own difficulties if KCIII could bring both brothers into line again. It’s time to stop painting Harry as the black sheep of the family. It hasn’t worked, it just drives more dissent and anti monarchy feeling in the younger generation. If we are to have a King William and a King George then the younger generation do need to see the institution as worth holding onto. As Harry is clearly active on the world stage harnessing his global appeal would be an advantageous move by the current King.

If the Harry example is difficult to understand, he's actually not the only royal to do this. Maybe it will be clearer if you think about Meghan complaining about her life against a backdrop of extreme poverty in South Africa.

Nadeed · 26/08/2024 15:57

@Hughs then why mention he is a millionaire? It was irrelevant and was a cheap shot.

It's totally relevant. He's not living in a box on the street 🙄

LimeBiscuit · 26/08/2024 21:06

“Well Harry is well and truly the spare now to his wife. Wonder if he realises it.”

Maybe he does realise.

South Africans celebrating their wedding.

Martin Decoder ~ the best on youtube, for me. His analysis of Meghan is very interesting. Also, he is ‘deadpan’ amusing.

@LimeBiscuit - are you aware of what it was like in the UK at the time of their wedding? People were happy and celebrating! There were parties! They were very popular and had a huge amount of support.
Just watch footage when they did the carriage ride. It's a myth that they were greeted with negativity at first.

The people were happy, yes. 🤗

They had a huge amount of goodwill and support. That was shown clearly in that C5 documentary.

CathyorClaire · 27/08/2024 10:41

Anne was the Queen’s daughter (not her grandson), and when she married she and her husband declined a title so her children would not be titled. The Queen may have therefore wanted to make a provision for her only daughter’s family.

That doesn't explain the gift of the Sunninghill Macmansion to ghastly favourite son while leaving third son to lease (on however sweet a deal) an overblown moneypit from the Crown Estate though.

Mind you, bet said ghastly favourite is now wishing he'd hung onto the pile rather than ploughing the profits into another overblown moneypit big bro seems determined to kick him out of 😄

PoppysAunt · 27/08/2024 10:45

Harry and Meghan would have been gifted a generous property in which to raise a family in. Probably more than one. They certainly were treated very generously in the short time they were official working royals.

LimeBiscuit · 27/08/2024 11:38

Spare review, on trauma and healing.

“The wealthy have souls also and being wealthy offers no insurance policy to protect one from abuse, trauma, and suffering.” Her remedy for a cure from trauma and abuse was John 8:31-32: “The truth will set you free.”

Book Review—Prince Harry’s Spare: The Impact of Long Denied Trauma, Emotional Abuse

In its most brutal truths, Spare is a memoir about a lonely, isolated, abused, purposeless boy who becomes determined to face his realities in order to mature. Read our review and commentary on Spare.

They were given a clothing allowance for working clothes and Frogmore Cottage, which apparently is not good enough for Andrew.

PoppysAunt · 27/08/2024 11:39

The truth will set you free.
I suspect that's why Harry is still trapped.

Eh? How do you know what's not good enough for Andrew?
If your only defence against the behaviour of H&M is the behaviour of Andrew, then it's a pretty low bar.

LimeBiscuit · 27/08/2024 11:50

Spare would have been emotionally freeing and an unburdening for him.

I don't see him as ‘trapped’ but as a Father who is loyal to his kids and ensuring that they know him. I will have greater faith that Meghan is not preventing him from bringing the children to England when he does bring them here.

The public goodwill was evident. The tabloids were called out very early on in the relationship.

As Charles is head of the firm does it mean he is forever responsible for Andrew? As the Monarch inherits all from the previous Monarch is there a family contract of understanding that the heir treats his siblings in a particular way? Is it a fact that Charles pays for Andrew’s security when he is out and about and to guard his current home?

There were plenty of positives. However, the whole world was reporting on the UK tabloids’ racism, covert and overt in real time.

I think there are other ways to "emotionally free" and "unburden" yourself, other than writing salacious details about the RF because you know it'll make money and get you on chat shows.
It was unnecessary and cruel.
It's debatable how of "Spare" was actually true. Objectively. Perhaps all that time with the ghost writer would have been more productively spent on therapy. All these "stories" , untruthful jibes and petty point scoring for $$$$ doesn't seem healthy to me.

The whole world? Really?

LimeBiscuit · 27/08/2024 12:04

How anyone cannot see the distortion in family dynamics because of one inheritor of the crown is beyond me. Pulling rank as an heir would be a real problem for a sibling too. It will be definitely something that the press will bother itself with when the Cambridge children are older. The way they have reported Prince Louis is laying the seeds for playing him off against his siblings - being seen as the rebellious, fun loving one.

Because, @LimeBiscuit - it's an hereditary monarchy. There's a pecking order. Most of us understand that, even if we don't agree.
Now Harry must have understood it, and I'm surprised that Meghan didn't seem to inform herself of much of what she was getting into beforehand, but there you go.

Don't have tabloids or equivalent?.😂

Writing one’s emotional journey is good therapy. Seeing as he wanted to communicate with humanity I am pleased he wrote the book with his ghostwriter. I found it honest. Good for him that he was able to support his family financially through his memoir.

His choice to write what he wrote.
Astoundingly selfish to publish it and make millions.
That's a measure of Harry. In a nutshell.
