Harry to be removed from the line of succession?

Apparently this has been discussed at the Balmoral summit: an act of parliament to remove Harry and his heirs from the line of succession as they are no longer U.K. residents or working royals. Makes sense to me - I doubt many people would object. Don’t the Swedish royals have a similar rule? They only keep their titles & place in succession if they live in Sweden? Handy precedent there.

Jettisoning centuries of history and culture because “normal” people don’t dress like that (spoiler: they never did! These are outfits for high-status positions) seems an overreaction.

A bit of puritan republicanism for the modern ages. They'll be closing down the theatres too 😂

"and cancel Christmas!"

As Meghan said 'they are only one plane crash away from the throne'

I don’t think they all travel together do they?

Send William with Louis and Catherine with the older two. Yes, it's more vehicles, but a neat way to have 2 heirs per conveyance.

You could of course swap the DC around to spread the risk. But I don't think William should get to travel child-free (especially if its long haul)

I’d separate Charlotte and George

Louis has got trouble written all over him

😁

Don't very high profile families, sports teams etc. tend not to fly together for this very reason? I thought that was a thing.

Many companies/partnerships with valuable staff won't allow those key people to travel together. I do think William and family were doing so when QEII was alive, much to her consternation. I'm not sure if they have carried this on recently.

I know it's completely the wrong historical time period, but I can't read that phrase without thinking of Alan Rickman as the Sheriff of Nottingham.

Very true, @Rhaidimiddim !
To be fair, @MrsLeonFarrell they don’t do themselves any favours when they dress up in those ridiculous outfits for the order of the garter ceremony or whatever it’s called. That takes pomp and pageantry a step too far in 2024 in my view.

It's called tradition, and I rather like it.

😂😂😂

I once stood in a train vestibule with him from Reading to London. He had the death stare of someone who would cut your heart out with a spoon if you tried to speak to him. Very handsome though.

EmpressOfTheThread · 24/08/2024 19:17

@Toastbuttermarmaladetea I met him when we were canvassing for the Labour Party. He was just lovely.

Toastbuttermarmaladetea · 24/08/2024 19:20

Aw, glad to hear that @EmpressOfTheThread . He was such a fine actor, the world lost him far too soon.

EmpressOfTheThread · 24/08/2024 19:55

He asked me what I did. I said "a teacher". He said "oh, a proper job" 😀

Toastbuttermarmaladetea · 24/08/2024 20:06

Ah, that's lovely @EmpressOfTheThread . I'd have been very uncool if I'd had the chance to chat with him!

They have become silly and pointless all on their own, I'd leave them to it, it's embarrassing how they cling to the titles and gave their children titles. After initially insisting 'just call me Harry'...he soon changed his tune when he realised he's nobody without the title.

The RF should rise above all the tacky silliness (as they have been) and leave their titles intact.
