Yes he did! I remember it clearly as I’d never heard anyone use the word “thrice” before 😆

I have looked for it by now. Like you I remember the 'thrice' because it's not often used. I was thinking I'd got all mixed up because there was a man in the front passenger seat but Kate and Louis would have been in the back. William was driving.

PotatoPie111 · 29/08/2024 22:41

I’ve wondered how very strange it would be if their children did come back in some way, even when they were older. I wonder if they learn about royal protocol at all, I know Meghan didn’t seem keen on it. The Windsor children must do certain things without thinking now but for them it would be extremely alien.

I agree but I think it’s more a combination of Meghan wanting the status of an actual castle to live in and Harry being able to boast that he was the favourite grandson who lived near to the late Queen. I think there are a few reasons why it would never have happened though. The late Queen was acutely aware that living in the Castle would have elevated the Sussexes not only above the Cambridges as they then were, but also above Charles as them Prince of Wales. Also I think the Queen was fond of Windsor and didn’t particularly want to share it. She probably valued being able to relax there. The whole idea was a complete non starter

I think she also had M's number from (almost) the start; and, of course, knew all about H's poor intellect and character.

upinaballoon · 29/08/2024 22:43

"Also I think the Queen was fond of Windsor and didn't particularly want to share it."

The Queen loved 'every stick and stone' of Windsor. It was her safe (fairly) place during WW2, and her weekend refuge from the office - Buckingham Palace. It was her refuge for Covid, too. I'm glad she didn't want to share it, except a bit for the tourists.

Yes I’ve thought about this. They will be American children with no idea at all how things are in the RF or even anything about the UK. They will have nothing at all in common with their cousins.

Some Americans study history and teach it. Some come to the UK and look about them.
Who knows what A and L might do. Sometimes people become interested in things at different times in their lives. Archie might be an all-American boy until he's 45 and then have a deep desire to explore his UK heritage. I won't be here by then, to see the Channel 5 programme about it.

Runnerinthenight · 29/08/2024 23:50

It's such a shame that those children are being denied such a rich and amazing heritage. What is wrong with Harry?!!!

Once adults the children could become very resentful that their amazing heritage was denied them, imagine growing up knowing you grandfather was King Charles the third and you barely even met him, especially as Meghan sets such store by her own heritage (when it suits her of course), it’s baffling.

JADS · 29/08/2024 22:31

Maybe Meghan was desperate to get her hands on Queen Mary's Dolls' house?

Windsor Castle always strikes me as an odd place to want to live. It's full of tourists. The town is very twee and the traffic is dreadful. KP is in such a stunning location and while it's touristy, the RF apartments seem much more separate. Also London is a good place for anonymity rather like New York.

What about if you don’t wish to be anonymous?

I reckon, as young adults, they'll turn up at the odd socialite party and rub shoulders with their royal cousins and various aristos - page 3 fodder for the showbiz world and always on the outside of the main group, of course. I probably won't be here to see it, but they'll always be relative strangers to each other (think there's a play on words in there somewhere).

WillowWands · 30/08/2024 07:04

It’s interesting that Harry turned up to his Uncle's funeral. So it is possible for him to quietly attend events without a lot of hoo ha . Apparently he and William kept well apart and didn’t speak.

PoppysAunt · 30/08/2024 07:10

@WillowWands - yes, arrive, attend a funeral then leave. Entirely possible without being photographed, harrassed or threatened in some way.
Just shows you.

Indeed! I'm quite surprised he didn't make a big hoohaa as he clearly doesn't care for solemnity usually, QE2 death being a total song and dance about him and MM

Perhaps he himself, on his own, with nobody with him, really does want to keep away from the cameras.

PoppysAunt · 30/08/2024 07:16

Curious, @FloofPaws , bearing in mind how much he loves the publicity! I'm wondering if that was the agreement - please come, but we don't want paps, we don't want your official photographer or a Netflix crew?

Just got up and I usually watch the headlines on 6am
Telly, first thing is PH and the funeral 🙄

I could be wrong but I suspect the Spencer family laid down a few rules . From what I have read , Charles Spencer warned him about marrying Meghan and didn’t mince his words.

I agree on this. I'd say H&M have a fundamental point of difference - she needs the media to do her business ventures, and also because she likes it. H by his own admission hates the media truly and utterly. I don't really know how you'd reconcile that to build a long term joint career that they both truly enjoy.

Probably the best bet is for them to go their separate ways career wise and we can already see that happening - ARO is a Meg-only venture and so is the cooking show.

Harry needs the media too . Otherwise he’s just a nobody. He seems to lap it up abroad, it’s the UK media he hates.

Yeah...I think that's weird too. Because, one of his main beefs with the media seems to be how they treated Princess Di, I have to say that the American media were always FAR more intrusive to Diana than the British media was.

The US media used to run stories alleging abortions, sex addiction, plastic surgery...all sorts of mad stuff.

CBS came in for huge censure as being the ONLY media outlet in US and UK to publish pictures of Diana trapped in the car and semi-conscious after the car crash. Pictures which they got from the Parisian police using allegedly shady means. So I was a bit bamboozled when I saw Harry doing a sit down interview with the same CBS about suicide.

No logical through-line of thought or principle. Makes me wonder whether his real beef isn't actually with the media at all but something else and he's kind of raging at the media as a psychological displacement activity.

Because otherwise...makes no sense.

Ultimately it’s about his family. He thinks they should just shut all the media down in the UK. He doesn’t realise they don’t control the media. It’s a necessary evil that they have to endure.

I don’t think H likes any media. He knows how to act when the cameras are on. I’m not sure if this is the real Harry but it’s the one we know.
He’s had a lifetime of training and I honestly don’t know if the smile and carefree attitude he displays are genuine or not anymore.

Didn’t he say on Oprah (didn’t watch but saw some highlighted snippets) that he’d put the smile on and that he didn’t really want to do the tours and visits etc.

This is what I struggle with. I honestly always thought Harry was a people’s Prince but now I feel he never wanted to be this person.
Not an issue if he hates it but how is his new life any different from his previous if all he’s doing is pretending?
Maybe I’m too invested and need to get a life 😂

He did, and it struck me as retconning. Kind of like when he said that he used to think the royal family as an institution was positive but now due to meeting Meghan he'd 'woken up' and understood it was all based on colonialism and racism.

The way he spoke in both instances reminded me strongly of the way that cult victims are gaslit into totally renouncing their former lives pre cult, even going so far as to claim (and perhaps even believe) that they were secretly desperately unhappy in their former lives even though it's obvious to their loved ones that that was not the case
