@Thedom I was so impressed by that Colin Farrell interview.

The difference between Colin’s authenticity and Markle’s fakery is so clear to see I can’t understand why some people still back this losing horse.

Thinkingabouttherapy · 11/08/2024 14:11

I was musing on this interview again earlier. I was trying to work out how it all fits together. The focus was ostensibly on parents of children who committed suicide due to online bullying - or purchasing drugs online? And this is relevant to H & M because M considered suicide due to - what? Online bullying? The behaviour of the RF? Was this clarified in the Oprah interview?

Harry then highlights the focus by explaining that “even first responders” can’t identify suicide ideation and children could be doing who knows what on their phones or tablets in the next room (something about his mention of tablets makes me think he lets Archie use one unsupervised, but that’s just speculation).

For most, the answer would be taking Personal responsibility, limiting screen time, using parental apps, removing the device, but above all engaging meaningfully with children.

The first responder point is there to imply that personal responsibility is inadequate and only blanket forms of censorship will address the problem effectively.

As Meghan says, sometimes the silent bit is part of the song.

shockthemonkey · 11/08/2024 14:40

I"m not sure Harry knows what a first responder is. You don't call a first responder to your house to ascertain whether someone is suicidal. And anyway, since he also says "even first responders don't know when someone is considering suicide", what would be the point of parents becoming first responders?

Maybe he is confusing "first responders" with mental health practitioners.

PoppysAunt · 11/08/2024 14:55

Maybe he doesn't know what he's talking about. As per.

I agree, it’s very contusing and he’s definitely using the wrong word there - but I think it’s primarily confusing because he’s trying to provide support for an unspoken agenda (censorship).

If you substitute trained counsellors for ‘first responders’ the subtext seems to be that no-one can physically intervene and help (once the exposure to the online material has happened) so the only solution is for the Daily Mail comments damaging online material to be banned.

I always get the feeling Meghan has written him a script and he’s tried to memorise it without understanding any of the content. No one in the UK would talk such claptrap.

You know, that actually makes sense, because honestly he talks such bilge.

He has a habit of coming out with nonsensical garbage. You need to be a first responder but even the best first responders in the world don’t know the signs of possible suicide (paraphrasing) is the ramblings of someone who hasn’t a clue what they’re talking about. Same as genetic pain when he surely meant generational. He’s painful to listen to.

I’m sure his wife must (surely) wonder what the heck she’s married. As much as I don’t like her at least she has a brain cell more than he does.

PoppysAunt · 11/08/2024 17:34

But she says "equity" instead of "equality".
I think neither of them are particularly well read or articulate. Just full of themselves.

Does she? I’m not so sure. Her insincerity is so pronounced and her longer speeches are usually cobbled together from a series of unrelated and unattributed ‘inspirational’ quotes. It’s like flicking through one of those desk diaries businessmen would give their secretaries for Christmas in the 1970s.

Harry reminds me of a child that has been praised beyond merit by his mother and teachers and isn’t clever enough to realise that they are just trying to encourage him.

Listening to either of them makes me cringe. It’s really fundamental stuff. It’s not surprising that they are so unpopular- the only mystery is that they have any fans at all.

I agree but I’ll still credit her with two brain cells to his one 😁

I was quite surprised H&M chose CBS to give this highly sensitive interview given that CBS was the only US television network which tried to publish photos of the dying Diana in the car crash.

I must admit I thought something similar when they did the Netflix deal, given that NF were in the process of making lots of money by dramatising his mother's mental health struggles (and eventually her death) for the purposes of entertainment. Quite bizarre that he would work with them.

PoppysAunt · 11/08/2024 18:43

I don't think he has that level of critical awareness. It's all about the $$$$.

Yes I think it must be. He's usually a champion grudge holder, after all. I can't see any other explanation for how he can get over the trivialisation of his mother's death but not the fact that William was given an extra sausage.

Lockupyourbiscuits · 11/08/2024 19:04

To see Meghan sit and talk about how amazing her children are with that smug smile in front of bereaved parents actually made me feel enraged

there was no need for that
it was beyond insensitive

I also do not believe for one second that story that she went to HR and no one would help her when she was suicidal- including her dolt of a husband - she is a liar plain and simple

it’s disgusting to sit there smiling when talking about children taking their lives

sickening

@Lockupyourbiscuits actually I hadn’t thought of that, the context, you’re quite right, at least caveat with how fortunate they are. Possibly this caveat would have been good too on ‘no one has asked about me’ in Africa & also a quick ‘we’d like to wish the DofE well’ before telling all on Oprah.

It is interesting that we can say that now without gettuing deleted. Intetesting, too, that so many of us believe it.

Lockupyourbiscuits · 11/08/2024 19:53

Just to be clear
I am not saying she didn’t feel suicidal
I am saying I don’t believe that she asked for help and was turned away
I find it difficult to believe Harry didn’t panic and call someone- it’s not as if he was estranged from his family and friends and obviously there would have been an obstetrician and team on speed dial
