When I had cancer some years ago I took a year off work completely. Lots of people do. Nobody called me ‘workshy’ - at least not within my hearing. But then I don’t know many arseholes in real life.

Well, you know, if you were ever to fancy the company of arseholes, you’ll be able to choose from some pretty professional ones on here.

spanieleyes · 13/07/2024 15:22

Either it's work , so as President of the LTA , she should be attending.
Or it's pleasure, in which case, she can do as she wants.

Either way, it's not any of my business.

ithinkilikethislittlelife · 13/07/2024 15:23

If I'm honest here I think she's going because she loves tennis. She'd probably go on a stretcher if she could. Just my opinion. She's hardly working a shift in a busy supermarket or on a ward as a nurse or driving an Amazon van. She will have someone to do her hair/make up, drive her to the event, given the best seating available and be treated like "royalty" because she is.

Because she's always wrong?

Wronger than a wrong thing. Everywhere, all at once. Her wrongness is omnipresent, like a quantum entanglement of error. His wrongness is indeed so legendary that I bow down to its magnificence, to its disturbing majesty, its industrial-scale errant hegemony of all the mistakes of the whole world wrapped up in one fucking size 8 frock.

Is that the script we're looking for, on this fine day?

p.s. The All England Lawn Tennis Association aka Wimbledon pumps millions of £££ into charitable endeavours, but I expect she steals that and buys rugs and cruet sets in TK Maxx.

How articulate is this! It's up there with 'Fawlty Towers' and 'Monty Python'.

We need a larger bingo card.

Interesting that she's going to the men's final, not the women's (which would be shorter, and an easier gig).

Obviously because she's having an affair with Roger Federer, don't you know so needs an excuse to meet-up.
Yes I'm making this up but will fit the script in certain places, yes SS I'm looking at you.
Good for her I'm hoping she's on the mend, and glad she feels up to it.

Some posters seem to be reading a different thread in their own head, in which all the sheeple are saying "Kate is so wonderful and hard working, doing her duty by slogging her guts out at Wimbledon when she's got cancer, for the good of us plebs, she's an example to us all."

Nobody on the actual thread is saying that, the pro-Katers are mostly saying "it's nice to see she's well enough to attend, I hope she enjoys it."

This kind of thing happens ALL THE TIME on this forum. It is fascinating.

Please don’t deflect. You appear to know what he’s thinking. Why wasn’t he at the semi?

Didn't he have to go and pretend to care about homelessness for an hour or so the next day, so that he could make it look like he actually did some work in case England got to the final, which he was never going to miss.....unlike the women's final. He doesn't do much if you look at the number of engagements over the years.

Totally this.

Noone is comparing attending the Mens Final to a 12 hour shift in A&E, noone, but the mean spirited cavilling by those for whom (certain) members of the RF can do no right is just ridiculous.

I've had a stinkingly awful and very worrying week, I really imagine somewhat worse than many of the miseries on here moaning about a woman having cancer treatment going to the tennis. I can still find it in me to not resent people having a bit of fun, especially those who have been through the worrying time that Kate has and that would apply whether someone is a Princess or not.

BACA · 13/07/2024 16:08

I think lots of people guessed that her appearance at an event last month was so that she could attend Wimbledon without people questioning it. If she needs time off, she should have it, but she's taking the piss to turn up at the tennis when doing fuck all else. I'm not surprised, she's never been known for her hard work as others have said. She and William are a joke.

Right, so logistically he wasn’t able to go to something he probably really wanted to go to. Logistics, eh? Fancy that.

Vespanest · 13/07/2024 16:12

I spent so much time during chemo feeling guilty and apologising. Guilty that I was being a shit mother and letting my children down, letting my partner down, letting my work colleagues down and letting myself down. I remember breaking down and being comforted by a stranger that no one was judging me. I’m glad that if they were I didn’t know at the time. Don’t like the royalty that’s fine but portraying that there’s a right way to do chemo especially when it’s female on a mainly female board when so many will have been through chemo, are currently undergoing or may unfortunately go on to have chemo that unless they martyr themselves they are not worthy, even if they are physically unable to work.

I'm a huge fan of Jonathan Pie. I wrote it in his persona, which appears to be melding with mine this year Grin

100%. I was disgusted that he didn't go and support the women in their final. I don't believe for a second that he'd have missed the men's final.

It’s basically either Republic and/or sugars finding anything they can to moan about and debasing themselves by attacking the characters of the RF through any means possible, including their cancer if that’s what’s on offer. Why not go down this road when you don’t have any other argument? I mean, a reasoned discussion about the replacement of the monarchy with an elected head of state, the essential changes needed constitutionally, the knock on effect to the political landscape and whether we would actually save any money in the process. None of that is easier than slagging off a cancer patient and fervently hoping her marriage is in trouble. That’ll fuck up the monarchy! (Not.) Want to be ruled by miserable ghouls? Join this crowd.

@thebluebeyond you have NO IDEA what her " situation" is regarding her cancer. Cancer covers a wide range of conditions and each is individual to a person. I'm not going to go further into this aspect as it can be distressing for some readers. You however have no idea what she has gone/ is going through so your comments are not based in truth. You are being distasteful but I expect you know that.

Well said @PrincessMee

@thebluebeyond I find your comment disgusting.

She is Patron of the All England tennis club - it is one of her causes

It's hardly a 'cause'. I think it's a poor choice of engagement to attend when she is effectively signed off sick.

MrsMcisaCt · 13/07/2024 16:25

She has good days and bad days as she said. So lucky that's she's having some good days now, leading up to the Men's final, isn't it? She really is one lucky duck.

I’m a fervent Republican but that comment is really off and unnecessary.

margotmargeaux · 13/07/2024 16:28

How anyone could begrudge a person for having a day out after months of what could have been gruelling cancer treatment is beyond me.
I cannot believe anyone would not wish her, or anyone else, well and to be pleased for them to be able to do something they enjoy.

Imisshimtoo · 13/07/2024 16:31

ShikShakShok · 13/07/2024 10:28

I know I’m going to get slated but not sure how I feel about that. I fully understand (and know from first hand experience) that you have good days and bad days with cancer. But surely if she’s willing to make a public appearance it should be for one of her causes rather than a Wimbledon game. Especially as a Wimbledon game lasts a couple of hours which can be exhausting to sit through if you’re already not feeling 100%.

She’s patron of the AELTC?

Please don’t lump all of us Republicans in the same basket.

I don’t have anything against the Princess of Wales personally and have sympathy for anyone with cancer.

She’s always very professional and I imagine that she wants to do the parts of her duties that she is able to do.
