I've watched Wimbledon since I was a child (and I'm old!), and my brother and I were little enough to stick our legs together under the wooden arm of a chair to watch. Then we would go out and play in our back yard! I don't think I have missed a Women's or Men's final in umpteen years, if ever.

I would love to see a match, or matches, live, even just once.

It’s a fabulous experience . Even just wandering around the grounds and savouring the atmosphere. First time we walked through the gates I actually cried ( pathetic I know) as it was a dream come true to attend .
And Wimbledon village is lovely to wander in .

That poster has actually admitted to trying to derail the thread too. As well as admitting to sock puppeting on another.

I don't think I did and not intentionally and I've been away on other things leaving the RF board alone you will be pleased to know. That said it's an internet forum not the Supreme Court last time I looked and I've forgotten how I got to Mein Kamf but I'm sure I had good reason at the time. As you were , cue giphy storm !

I went to Wimbledon for several days each year from as a child/ early teen. My best friend moved from where we lived to a house opposite the main gates, so we used to stand by the gate after school and always got tickets for the 4pm to end of play slot. I can't recall ever not finding someone to give us their tickets when they left for the day. In my twenties I was able to see the Ladies' Finals each year because my father had a debenture ticket and didn't want to take time off work on a Friday (that was when the LF was played in those days); he'd been too many times to be interested. But the most exciting tickets were the ones we were given as children (we started doing this aged eight - unthinkable now!) when we saw all the top men players - it was wonderful.

Fortunately we can all read.

Me too! I remember years ago during the summer holidays my sister and cousins would be outside playing in the garden and I would be inside watching Wimbledon, it's my dream to see a match live!

It is a shame other things don’t fucking evolve.

Cornishclio · 15/07/2024 10:10

I thought it was lovely to see her with her daughter and sister and the standing ovation she got was just as nice as the one David Attenborough got last week. She was obviously touched. I hope she is doing ok and she looked lovely if a bit thin.

Good result on the tennis too. Djokovic was magnanimous in losing to Alvarez and said some nice things about the Princess of Wales too. No doubt there will be some nasty comments (I haven't checked the whole thread yet) but I hope she enjoyed the occasion. The last time I was at Wimbledon was in the 70s/80s so maybe I need a return trip 🤣

I completely agree! I thought Djokovic behaved superbly - really smiley and magnanimous. I like both players, but I'm always sentimentally sad to see the old stag defeated by the young buck - and I've seen a few over the years! I thought it was particularly nice because Djokovic endured some mean behaviour from (a minority of) spectators earlier in the week and I don't blame him for calling them out.

I thought Catherine did a great job. She isn't showy or performative - she just modestly and conscientiously does her thing and does is charmingly. Good on her - she gets it absolutely right, I think.

JADS · 15/07/2024 10:31

I thought it was interesting how she stood out in close up, but blended in when sat down as part of the crowd. Not sure I've expressed that well! It was nice that Pippa was there to support her.

I also found the two parents heading to two different sports events somewhat relatable, only in my world it's U10s cricket and junior park run. Hope Louis gets to do some cool stuff in the future - I don't doubt he will.

@JADS I know what you mean. Catherine has a sort of luminosity about her, when she enters a room you can't take your eyes off her. But at the same time, you never feel like she's trying to outshine the people she's there to meet, or make other people's work/causes that she is there to promote all about her, or to get people to look at her. There's nothing performative there. After the initial sort of wow moment when you take her in, she sort of blends into her surroundings and it's no longer all about her.

Quite hypocrital of you isn't it to be here telling others not to derail a thread when on another thread about will and kate your on their talking about H&M ...oh wait thatbisnt derailinf is it, what was it someone said 'but a conversation in a thread can evolve'...

LumiB, Did you not see that someone who, like yourself, had not participated in the thread at all, reported this thread so that everyone including Senthe were told by a mod to get back on topic?

Do you want to let the person who reported the thread know they are a hypocrite?

These are not my rules. I love to let conversations meander.

It’s so brilliant to be around people like this. You walk away feeling energized instead of drained.

Regal purple. She suits it so well with her dark colouring. She just looked so happy which is lovely to see and it appears so genuine for everyone. Not drawing attention to herself by launching herself at every person in sight.... not looking for cameras all the time to get the best angle...not sitting talking to herself ... no need for singing 🦭🦭🦭🦭 here.

Look I'm no Sussex fan but does every thread about Kate need to descend into an opportunity to compare her with Meghan ?
can we please just enjoy a thread talking about the PoW WITHOUT slagging off the DoS.

Who said Meghan? 🤣

Sorry @StiffyByngsDogBartholomew I think you have a good point but given we are limited in the things we can discuss without being reported and rebuked I think it’s inevitable.

skullbabe · 15/07/2024 12:24

Love that picture of Charlotte and Louis!

Please stop personally attacking me and derailing this thread. Did you come on the thread simply to do so? You have not posted anything else here.

We’ve also been told we cannot refer to other threads or track other’s posts.

I follow the rules and heed the moderators. Why are you so comfortable ignoring what we’ve been asked to do on this very thread and many times over?

GrouchyKiwi · 15/07/2024 13:20

That photo of Charlotte and Louis is sweet. I wonder if Charlotte's hair stayed like that from Wimbledon or did it have to be redone? My girls' hair gets messy in seconds, it seems!

GreenClock · 15/07/2024 13:38

Hadn’t seen the photos or the footage until just now. I thought that Pippa was Carole for a sec. They are very alike indeed.

Kate looks stronger than she did at the Trooping event which bodes well. I’d do away with the lot of the royals but I’ve had my fingers crossed for her health. Good to see!

AliceOlive · 15/07/2024 13:45

I know it’s DM but the photos are fantastic.
Catherine is so gracious. I love Pippa’s dress.

That’s a 2022 thread revived by someone wanting to discuss H&M. It’s not really surprising that’s what posters went on to talk about, since the original subject matter was outdated and had been exhausted when the original thread died. To all intents and purposes, the reviving post created a new thread. This was actually more or less explained to you on that thread when you were having a go at posters there too.
