(Also, the capacity of Centre Court is only 15,000. Applying that to the 15m who would likely want to watch the final live and it would take a thousand years to give them all a seat at a final! Although you could slash that to just 500 years if you assume they’d all be happy to take either the women’s final or the men’s final 🤣 )

Even if you made tickets to Wimbledon 100% balloted and reduced the prices considerably - and provided free accommodation (why not, if we’re in fantasy land here…) you still couldn’t make it available to everyone who wanted to see it live.

On average about 500,000 people attend the championships over the two weeks it runs each year. It’s very popular, so that is its capacity. Taking the 15m people who watched last year’s tournament as a reasonable estimate of the pool of those who would be interested in going to watch live if offered the chance, it would take you 30 years to get through that pool. And in that 30 years the pool would grow as new generations of tennis fans emerge.

In short - going to Wimbledon is always going to be an exclusive experience.

I agree with most of your points, though I'm not sure everyone who watches remotely would be interested in seeing it live, even with transport and accommodation laid on. You get a better view on TV and all the comforts of your own home with zero hassle - of course, many would relish the 'experience' above any inconvenience, but not all, particularly those who might be watching casually because there's nothing better to do at the time.

Love this photo. Princess Charlotte looked at her mummy with such pride and love. (To be honest, so did everyone there!)

I've watched Wimbledon since I was a child (and I'm old!), and my brother and I were little enough to stick our legs together under the wooden arm of a chair to watch. Then we would go out and play in our back yard! I don't think I have missed a Women's or Men's final in umpteen years, if ever.

I would love to see a match, or matches, live, even just once.

Wow. Surely with this sort of completely unjustified projection this board has hit rock bottom?

I agree projection like that is thrown at William, Harry, Catherine and Meghan all the time. None of it is justified from any of those who do it.

Meghan does….

The whole of the USA do. $ is King in the land of the free! :-)

How hilarious - spamming another Kate thread with inane chat about cheese, prawns and Harry/Meghan to try and shut down any discussion of Kate

Well spotted. They’re playing the ball better than England did. :-)

I've always regretted not doing that during my brief stint in London! There's quite a few things I regret not doing - including turning down the opportunity to go to the Royal premiere (Princess Diana!) of Steel Magnolias because I needed to do overtime in work!!! Husband saw her driving to another premiere - I was doing a course in Leicester Square and he had come to meet me - and he said he saw a beautiful woman all dressed up with a big nose!!! Men can be such philistines!

We were up on a high floor in the building, and could often hear the cheers but didn't know who it was!

But, to keep on subject, just in case, I was pleased to see Kate looking so well, Pippa supporting her, and Charlotte is so cute!

Novak's Stefan and Tara are beautiful children too! And I love Annabel Croft!

I can make it to London and back in a day, with the train, but I am what would be called 'out in the sticks' so an evening performance of anything would mean a hotel as well, for the night.

Diana did have quite a large nose, and it wasn't straight but I never heard tell that it had ever been broken.

It was very good to see the three of them. I'm glad Kate met women players, behind the scenes, as it were.

I like anyone's plaits. I've seen Charlotte with plaits before. When I was a girl plaits were just plaited from the the hairline, but now they pull in the hair all the way down or do other interesting things. I like them all.

I'd have to take a flight now and stay over, but back then we lived in north London. What a missed opportunity! It was lovely that Kate met Barbora too!

I wonder how Carlos watched the footie and went to the Wimbledon ball? Maybe they screened it!

As Novak Djokovic said,
“Yes, it was of course a privilege to be in her presence again,” Djokovic said in his press conference when asked what he had said to Kate. “I've said to her that it is very nice to see her in good health. She seems to be in good health.
“That's obviously very positive news for everyone in this country but also for Wimbledon, for Championships to have Her Royal Highness here, of course with her family members. It's amazing. It's incredible support they've been giving over the years to this tournament”.
Couldn’t have put it better myself and mic drop to anyone who has anything negative to say about the Princess of Wales being there today.

Oh, lucky Kate and Charlotte - the lovely Stan Smith was just behind them.

I met Stan Smith! At the US Open. In the hospitality tent for AT&T. Delightful. I still have the backpack!

I’ve seen jimmy connirs, bjorn Borg, John McEnroe, Stefan Edberg, Tracey Austen and a host of others. Used to take the day off school and head up to get returns. Over 40 years ago. Amazing!

Mumsnet have specifically asked people not to create division here. Calling people “they” is intended to just that. They’ve also asked to stop the derailing. Hopefully the person that reported the thread preciously will report your post. The people actually having the conversation clearly wouldn’t do that.

It’s actually not. Most of us have higher values than the dollar and would never sell our families out. YMMV.

Although the dollar will always be more king than Harry.

You do have a way with words, Sentebale. Pity you always end up on the fringe of the photos.

Dhruinseeses · 15/07/2024 05:22

I loved seeing her. I do hope she makes a full recovery. I’m old enough to be her mum. If she was my daughter, I’d want to feed her some nice comforting home cooked food.

Thmssngvwlsrnd · 15/07/2024 06:59

She looked fantastic and it was lovely to see her with Pippa and Charlotte. Hopefully she's well on the road to recovery now.

PrincessMee · 15/07/2024 08:22

Regal purple. She suits it so well with her dark colouring. She just looked so happy which is lovely to see and it appears so genuine for everyone. Not drawing attention to herself by launching herself at every person in sight.... not looking for cameras all the time to get the best angle...not sitting talking to herself ... no need for singing 🦭🦭🦭🦭 here.

Quite hypocrital of you isn't it to be here telling others not to derail a thread when on another thread about will and kate your on their talking about H&M ...oh wait thatbisnt derailinf is it, what was it someone said 'but a conversation in a thread can evolve'...
