Didn't he have to go and pretend to care about homelessness for an hour or so the next day, so that he could make it look like he actually did some work in case England got to the final, which he was never going to miss.....unlike the women's final. He doesn't do much if you look at the number of engagements over the years.

100%. I was disgusted that he didn't go and support the women in their final. I don't believe for a second that he'd have missed the men's final.

Can you imagine the outcry if he had flown to Australia for a football match ??

Woman with cancer feels well enough to go and watch sporting event. Good.
Why the need to judge?
I have stage 4 cancer and very little money. Doesn’t make me want to moan about this.
Access to care and treatment, sickness and disability benefits etc are political issues and not in the PoW’s control.
Whether you are think the monarchy should exist or not is not in the PoW’s control.
Nothing to argue about.

After this it will be 6 months at the coal face for the Carol Concert and another new instant chopsticks piano classic.

What's gone so wrong in your life that you feel the need to be so bitter about a woman with cancer?

Mymilkshakebringsallthepapstomycar · 13/07/2024 18:54

Graham's clearly not interested in anything but his blank pieces of paper.

No, not at all the same. Republic have a very specific set of tactics. There are lots of republican leaning posters who are not part of Republic who do not resort to those tactics, like yourself. I’m not going to apologise for your misunderstanding, Post or don’t post, that’s your call.

Who is being partisan now?

I smell a stalwart.

Out you come precious.

AnitaLoos · 13/07/2024 19:02

I’d say that I wish some of these frankly vile posters would get cancer so they could find out how they cope. But I don’t. Because I don’t. Because the terror of a diagnosis, the sick fear that you will die and leave your children motherless, the rigours of treatment, the lifelong side effects of chemo & surgery, the reduced life-expectancy and the years and years of dread that your cancer might come back are all so dreadful I wouldn’t wish them on my worst enemy. And no amount of money makes any of those things less horrific.

I'm a huge fan of Jonathan Pie. I wrote it in his persona, which appears to be melding with mine this year Grin

I hope you were taking the mickey out of the anti-Kate grumblers. That's how I read it.

👏👏👏

(Ah I’m just pleased to see Mrs Farrell’s wife agrees with me, since I’ve just finished the Chronicles of St Mary’s!)

You're not funny and you're not clever.

And you won't be getting a dog biscuit.

OMG leave the woman alone. She's entitled to a day out for purely fun.

What do you mean?

I am a member of Republic, I joined as a result of these threads actually, but we don’t all go around bashing people with cancer when they are down. That’s a ridiculous assumption to make.

I think these comments about Catherine are awful.

It’s not necessarily an easy thing to sit through three hours of tennis if you have recently undergone chemotherapy, especially as you will have every single camera lense in the centre court pointed in your direction, and journalists scrutinising your appearance to see if you look well, have suffered hair loss or whatever. And god forbid if she were to feel nauseous.

It’s perfectly possible to separate out normal decent sympathy for a fellow human being who is ill, and disapproval of an institution that elevates one person above another based on birth and privilege.

Not everyone is the same on here. Nor is every member of Republic the same.

Sethera · 13/07/2024 19:18

If the Royals really gave a hoot about the nation, they'd be supporting grass roots sport, not sitting in the Royal Box at Wimbledon

I suspect the lovely, if eccentric, people at St Mary's would give a few of the nasty minded posters a good telling off.

Yeah, I can’t see them having much time for all the bitchy jealousy. More Barclay or Dottle, somehow.

Let's just say I don't find the organised campaign against Catherine remotely impressive. It's not even a 'social phenomenon' because that would involve some form of organic development or spontaneity. This is a targeted and capricious fun-fest carried out by a core of avaricious people being paid in either money, narcissistic fuel pods or grift-chits for kompromat.

upinaballoon · 13/07/2024 19:23

It's 4 weeks today since the Trooping of the Colour. I don't know how often Kate has a treatment but it's not beyond probability that that date and this one are better times for her, in her cycle of treatments, than say, 12 days ago, when Wimbledon started.

yourlittleworldfallingapart · 13/07/2024 19:26

The poor woman has cancer. Let her enjoy a tennis match for pete's sake.

Like the time Kate recently played tennis with the UK’s successful US Open tennis champions (Joe Salisbury, wheelchair players Alfie Hewett and Gordon Reid and Emma Raducanu) to support the Lawn Tennis Association’s Youth programme?

Like setting up a charitable collaboration with Roger Federer’s Laver Cup where the practice day in September last year raised money for Action for Children and the Lawn Tennis Association’s charity?

Like that, you mean?

No, I mean actually being present at genuine grass roots sports events, rather than playing with tennis champions or attending charity bashes.

BemusedAmerican · 13/07/2024 19:34

I am amazed at how many posters seen to have a psychic connection with either William or Kate and knows exactly what they are doing and when they are doing it.

As an American, I lacked that psychic connection to both Trump and Biden. ( mutters "Thank God I'm American"). At least I'm not channeling other people.

Yes, because your average school sports centre, community football pitch, or other 'genuine grass roots sports event' can spontaneously accommodate the security and logistical requirements of a visit from the future King or Queen.

You're just looking to have a go at them for any reason, aren't you? You can practically taste the sourness on this thread.
