Kensington Palace have released a new photo of William and the children to mark his 42nd birthday. The photo was taken by Catherine.

Honestly I think this is one of my favourite photos of the family!

I've got family pictures taken on various beaches, going back to the 1920s at Portobello.
Cameras, of various types, seem to have survived the ordeal. Funny that.

This is very sad to say, but with some, I think the horribly dark truth is that they feel angry and thwarted by the fact the PoW isn't dead, in a coma or fleeing domestic abuse. A lot of people were very invested in those narratives a couple of months back, and as sick and awful as it is, I think some are pissed off they were wrong.

The truth is that there's no reason to think they are anything other than a happy, loving family in which the mother is going through cancer. The pictures are innocent and sweet and that's all there is to it.

Unfortunately, I think you're right.
Kate is doing well, the family are fine...and happy.
Sticks in some people's craws.

SM brings out some very dark sides in a lot of people. One thread on another part of the site has had to be pulled because of that.

The awful thing is that some people are more than happy to show that very dark side and see no problem in it.

I inherited pictures taken in India (so plenty of dust) in the 1930s with a soldier's Box Brownie camera. It seems to have worked just fine (although a note on the back of where and when would have been appreciated).

It's the memories, the images of those people who are no longer with us that is important. There's a photo of me being propped up by my mum in the sand dunes when I was less than one year old. When I look at it I see the joy of being a mother. I "see" my father behind the lens. I "see" a time and a place that I cannot remember.
You've reminded me too of some of the photos from my husband's family- a family who fled from persecution. They are at the beach. They have survived. They are free. A photo is about much more than composition.

Just about the only time a camera was dusted down was at Christmas and holidays - and the odd picture of the birthday girl/boy blowing out candles. I remember the drama of getting the developed photos back and invariably half “hadn’t come out”, the others had my dad’s thumb stuck in them or he’d managed to capture dsis sulking about something hunched in the background. Happy days!

Agree that some people are just sour - never, ever happy for others. Unless, bizarrely, it’s Harry and Meghan Confused

IsoldeWagner · 22/06/2024 11:32

Howard Carter managed to take photos of Tutankhamun's tomb in 1922.
Think of the dust! How did he do it?

IsoldeWagner · 22/06/2024 11:34

Lovely points, @PrincessMee 🌹
looking at things through a prism of negativity and hatred isn't a good thing.

pokemongo1 · 22/06/2024 11:43

We are capable of being factual and not really too involved one way or another.
Saying surprised by the grammar is not hating; just not blind admiration for everything they do.

PoW is well educated, working RF member, has millions of SM followers and has typed her very short caption with poor grammar. Not a typo, and no sausage fingers in the scenario.

The photo is great.

Calliopespa · 22/06/2024 12:21

StormzyinaTCup · 22/06/2024 10:09

Agree.
I have sausage fingers and an ability to type at speed, the two don’t always work well together😁. Sometimes I’ll edit, sometimes I cba. On SM I cut people some slack as I hope they would for me.

It’s commas and apostrophes that get the chop from me when typing on a phone.

Somehow I have the knack of thumping the 123 key to bring up a fullstop but it’s very “interrupting” to do it for the others.

There was a whole thread the other day about make-up and I’m not sure a single poster ( myself included) bothered to put in the hyphen so it all read ( to a purist) mord like a thread about restoration of relationships 😂

Love it 🥰

Nan! She rocks 💕

BemusedAmerican · 22/06/2024 12:46

I'm thinking of the "Harry's pone" thread on this board. I initially read the typo as "porn". Others went with the "pone" concept. 😁

Edited for typos.

StormzyinaTCup · 22/06/2024 12:53

Not a photo but staying on the birthday theme, here is Prince William busting some moves to ‘shake it off’ and clearly having a great time at the Taylor Swift concert last night.

I went to the Edinburgh concert with DD and we had a blast so it’s lovely to see PW and other family members 🎶‘getting down to this sick beat ’🎶

TW - if dad dancing offends best not to click😁

🎶…the haters gonna hate hate hate …..🎶

I can't decide whether I prefer the 'hee hee' people or the faux academic overly serious ones. Either way I think they'd get a better response if the shift changes and agenda weren't so obvious.

Am I the only one who thinks a lot changed when the POW released news of her diagnosis. It seems to have inflamed less healthy areas of social media.

And on the topic of the thread, I think Louis' apprehensive expression is evidence they didn't do loads of shots.

I loved the shot of H&M under the umbrella, definitely one that will last in the memory, and talking of rain photos there is a great one of William in profile in the rain at Trooping the Colour that is also one I think will be reprinted a lot in the future.

You've put your finger on the issue here. The rage in the SS camp on social media following the successful TotC event is palpable. They are absolutely furious and don't really know how to deal with it, and their conspiracy theory craziness is just off the scale at the moment. They claim that everything, absolutely everything, is some kind of fake or lie and spend their days poring over official photos for evidence of a sinister plot. They seem unable to see the desperation of Meghan sending out just 2 pots of jam and a jar of dog bickies while ARO STILL fails to launch.

It IS funny on one level, but also terribly depressing as an indicator of how stupid humans can be.

ArcaneWireless · 22/06/2024 13:10

I looked at @TheMithrasDirective’s post and thought, no. That can’t possibly be so.

Only the more I think about it, the more it seems to make some sort of sense and that is hugely sad.

Sad that I think it is possible. Sad that it is likely.

And aye, depressing.

It was a thought provoking post.

I'm one of nature's proofreaders and a bit of a stickler for grammar, but the times on here I've typed their when I mean there and vice versa and similar solecisms are beyond counting....and on a laptop, at that.

It’s safe to say he’s has a good birthday

There's a bit of a difference between normal people taking holiday photos and an official picture put out by public figures.

Did they print it and mail it to your house like the US presidents do for their supporters?

ArcaneWireless · 22/06/2024 13:34

I should say so vespanest
