Kensington Palace have released a new photo of William and the children to mark his 42nd birthday. The photo was taken by Catherine.

Honestly I think this is one of my favourite photos of the family!

Can nobody on this board tell the difference between an officially released photograph of public figures and a personal family holiday snap or kid's drawing? I'm sure there's a comedy sketch of small cows and cows far away but I cba googling it.

MrsGusset · 22/06/2024 09:54

I really like the picture.

Partly because it's such a happy family photo that just looking at it makes me smile.

And partly because it indicates a “not gonna let the bastards grind me down” stance from Catherine following the ridiculous and often malicious reaction to her Mother's Day photograph.

Carry on Regardless is definitely the best policy in this situation..

Vespanest · 22/06/2024 09:56

Some of the comments, the photo is a personal photo on instagram, it’s not been released in any official capacity. It’s not like it’s going on a stamp anytime soon or been put forward to be hung in the national portrait gallery.

There's a bit of a difference between normal people taking holiday photos and an official picture put out by public figures.

In what way is it an 'official' photo?

They are famous people and they put it on their public social media. But that does not make it 'official'. It was signed 'C' which is their unofficial way of saying it's not official, if you like. It's not like the photo is going to be on the stamps or anything.

Snap!

You beat me to it by a whole minute!

'Can nobody on this board tell the difference between an officially released photograph of public figures and a personal family holiday snap or kid's drawing?'

Yup. The birthday photo isn't an 'officially released photograph of public figures'. It's a family snap on a social media account. We can all tell the difference.

This is an official image. Have at it. (I prefer the beach one, tbh. This one's a bit stiff). OMG, I criticised a photo of the rf.......

I know this board is a total echo chamber

People keep using that term. Either they don't know what it means or they're new to this board, because I can recall some very lively exchanges between people who support the RF and republicans.

The other choices are a) being goady or b) thick.

I’m with you on the grammar thing. It’s no biggie online. Working with a touchscreen keyboard especially does let grammar and spelling errors slip in. I’m pretty good handwritten but sometimes I have seen my previous posts on here and it takes me a second to even work out what I had written ( intended to write)!
That said wasn’t the “C” Catherine not Charlotte?

Agree.
I have sausage fingers and an ability to type at speed, the two don’t always work well together😁. Sometimes I’ll edit, sometimes I cba. On SM I cut people some slack as I hope they would for me.

😂apparently not!

IsoldeWagner · 22/06/2024 10:12

Too true. People don't seem to understand "echo chamber" or "official portrait".
Among other things.

myrtleWilson · 22/06/2024 10:18

Are all photos produced by the RF on social media "official"? Does this just apply to the RF or others - is the photo of Keir Starmer and his wife at Taylor Swift's concert last night now an official photo of him - perhaps to be used on the House of Commons website (they'll snip Vic out of it)

Official photo ≠ official portrait

Rf social media, definitely. They're not personal accounts. Starmer - he is a political party leader and his account is used for such purposes so yes anything on his account is official even if not up to parliamentary standard.

@boombang Gosh " hating" a family photo, how odd

This seems to be eating some of these people up. They are even revisiting the photo to look at it again. They are writing screeds on it. This photo has had more analysis by some than one of my Fine Arts tutorials at Uni.

MrsDanversGlidesAgain · 22/06/2024 10:32

If I were the Waleses I'd be pissing myself laughing at the way some people tie themselves up in knots of rage over this snap. Not to mention the minute analysing of it for the way it's set up and the layout and composition and giving it marks, FGS.

Some people really are making themselves look stupid over this.

You're reaching so hard you're in danger of falling over.

And I think you know it.

It shows the envy and their bitterness. It is as clear as day.

IsoldeWagner · 22/06/2024 10:36

I do think that's sad. What a shame that there has been this level of negativity.

The funniest was a long solemn screed on how when you take your camera to the beach you have to be very careful to wrap it up not to get sand in it (big duh) and be very careful when you take it out and this was obviously posed and created so many times so IIRC it's not possible that this was taken at the beach (I might be misquoting, it was so silly I didn't want it lingering in the noggin).

Which would be news to DM who had loads of pics of us at the beach. As do other posters of their kids. The reach to find fault - ANY fault - with the picture was, in its way, outstanding.

Thedom · 22/06/2024 10:46

It's gone beyond the point of negativity into a whole different realm of cuckoo.

I think it's sheer frustration because their idols give them nothing other than a dog biscuit in return for all that adoration.

So all their energy is focussed on the 'villains' and their heinous family photos.

In it's way these threads have been very illuminating in just how pettily batshit some people can be. Pages and pages of I hate it, picking holes in the composition, marking it out of 10 - it's a snap taken at the beach!

10/10 to the Wales family, though - wind the sugars up and just watch them suckers go 😂

(Grammar solecism deliberate for the nit pickers and Eng lit grads on here).

PrincessMee · 22/06/2024 10:56

@MrsDanversGlidesAgain yes I saw that. Having had cameras at beaches since 1980 and this was pre digital age I have never in all those years since had an issue. I guess for some people life is a drag, risk aware at all times or of course they could just be looking to suck the joy out of everything. I look back on my thousands of beach photos over the years and all I see are happy memories of a time and a place. After all that is the main purpose of a beach photo.

TheMithrasDirective · 22/06/2024 10:56

Salemforcuddles · 22/06/2024 08:51

They can't win, a nice photo of a father having fun with his children and it's ripped apart, how very sad considering the year they have had

This is very sad to say, but with some, I think the horribly dark truth is that they feel angry and thwarted by the fact the PoW isn't dead, in a coma or fleeing domestic abuse. A lot of people were very invested in those narratives a couple of months back, and as sick and awful as it is, I think some are pissed off they were wrong.

The truth is that there's no reason to think they are anything other than a happy, loving family in which the mother is going through cancer. The pictures are innocent and sweet and that's all there is to it.
