Inspired by @Ladypenelopeforever ‘s post.

I find that William is photogenic and this is one of the best photos (albeit not candid) of him in a while.

What do you see? For me, I see humour about his lips and the faraway look in his eyes has a touch of sadness. Overall, the Prince has gravitas, he does not need the red folder to signal that. There is also a reddish blush to his skin. Either he caught the sun during the D Day commemoration or he is blushing for some reason

Let us see if we can keep comments positive, friendly and on topic this time. One can hope. 🙏

He looks like any other overly privileged man

As others have asked
What does that look like and how is that portrayed in this image.

He looks so much like his mother in this photo. I am a fan of bald men but I have to say it's shocking to see so many dismiss a man based on his hair. Imagine if a slew of men were to dismiss all of you based on the size of your bust. Usually you are all bleating about misogyny, the patriarchy and feminism.

True, I am not fan of William and I do think Harry is the better looking one 😅but there’s too much focus on the lack of hair.

He has the expression of a man who knows he can have Pringles and a Kit Kat from life's refreshment trolley

😂😂

QueenCamilla · 14/06/2024 02:39

I studied the photo and a vision came to me:

-William, who would you be if you weren't a king?

-A virgin.

He has humour about his mouth and blush in his cheeks - just like OP described. It's also exactly how I look for about two minutes when the wages come in.

Where have you been? This forum sorely needs more wit like this.

I didn't realise there was a whole bunch of nonsensical-fun loving Mumsnetters hiding out in this topic.
Makes me think what might be hiding behind Small Pets.

Mothership4two · 14/06/2024 03:26

I see an ordinary looking man gazing out of a window. He's a bit tense around the mouth.

Cornflakelover · 14/06/2024 05:47

In my opinion
if your bald or going bald you need a beard / stubble
otherwise you just look like a giant underfed egg

i love bald men - but only if they have a beard / stubble of some sort

I think it's what jumps out at you though. I mean, otherwise it's Prince William... sitting on a train....yup 🤷‍♀️. You can't help but think why has he left it longer on the sides with that wispy hair on top?! It's quite unusual to see a man of his age with that sort of look. Mike Tindall shaves it all off and looks attractive with it (I get that he's a rugged type with a beard and different face shape, but William's not fey and fragile looking so I think he'd be able to pull it off as well).

Gosh, you read a lot into that photo!

😂

CoffeeCantata · 14/06/2024 10:28

On the subject of baldness (which I do not condemn anyone for, and in fact I think William is a good-looking chap despite his hair loss)...

Am I right in thinking it's largely hereditary? If so, it's strange because I think William and Harry have lost their hair much younger than Charles did. Does it come from the mother's line? I'm sure Diana's father kept his hair into old age and of course the current Earl Spencer still has a good head of hair. I think both princes have been rather unlucky in that way.

Can anyone with more knowledge throw light on this subject?

CheeseSandwichRiskAssessment · 14/06/2024 10:31

I've heard it skips a generation but Philip had hair more or less I think. I'd say Charles has kept his the best out of all of them.

Or it's microplastics and meat hormones affecting the younger generation 😱

DeftLemonDog · 14/06/2024 10:37

I read that it was Prince Phillip who introduced the baldness gene into the family. I don’t know if that is true or not, but I have read that baldness is a lot more complicated than it simply coming from the mother’s line?

CoffeeCantata · 14/06/2024 10:42

Indeed - or the general stress of 21st century life.
But also, in previous generations I'm sure W and H would have followed the tradition of a comb-over, assisted by Brylcreem* or similar rather in the way that posh older men still do, so might not have appeared so suddenly and obviousl bald.

  • something a bit classier than Brylcreem for the aristocracry, I'm sure, but that kind of thing.

Just to repeat: I have no problem with bald men!!

DeftLemonDog · 14/06/2024 10:58

i think bald men can be quite appealing. But William and Harry are both sporting hair cuts that do them no favours. My ex is balding and he buzz cuts his remaining hair and looks much better for it.

I also heard it skips a generation in the male line: so paternal grandfather is the culprit.

I definitely have a mental image of the former D of E as a man of relatively thinly covered pate.

Calliopespa · 14/06/2024 11:39

Then again the current D of E is very bald …

I thought it was detemined by mother's side but it seems more complicated than that (although definitely not from wearing a tin helmet for 4 years in WW1, my dear grandfather's "explanation"!)

It isn't a character flaw, whatever.

JamieFraserSporran · 14/06/2024 13:58

It certainly is not. But it does tend to be one of the things that the SS like to pick on - charmers that they are!

Yes, William was doing that, it looked good.
Harry is a lost cause with that beard and hair. He just looks unkempt.
