Inspired by @Ladypenelopeforever ‘s post.

I find that William is photogenic and this is one of the best photos (albeit not candid) of him in a while.

What do you see? For me, I see humour about his lips and the faraway look in his eyes has a touch of sadness. Overall, the Prince has gravitas, he does not need the red folder to signal that. There is also a reddish blush to his skin. Either he caught the sun during the D Day commemoration or he is blushing for some reason

Let us see if we can keep comments positive, friendly and on topic this time. One can hope. 🙏

What about taking the piss out of a woman for other age related “faults” - wrinkles, drooping breasts, saggy eyes, hair loss, grey hair… would that be equally acceptable and hilarious?

Oh, the delightful Dingaling has already done that with Camilla on another thread. She's dowdy and old...oh and English! Can you imagine? Off with her head.

A nasty thread for nasty minds.

I see an average looking baldy who is going to inherit power and status rather than earn it. I’m a die hard Republican, so that photo means nothing to me. I wish we’d never brought the monarchy back in the 1680s. I’m actually fairly patriotic. But my patriotism is based on things worth being patriotic about - Shakespeare, Newton, Darwin, John Locke, Jane Austen, Wordsworth, Keats, Dickens, George Eliot, Bertrand Russell, George Orwell, Aldous Huxley, etc. Any island that can produce people like that is OK by me. Even David Bowie, the Beatles and J R R Tolkien give me more of a sense of pride than the entire Royal Family. They embarrass me frankly.

I have nothing against William personally btw. And I quite like Charles. I just don’t want a monarchy. They are the last relic of feudalism, which is a system I hate with all my heart.

@DrStrangesSmarterSister "On the other hand, it's interesting to see what the inside of First class looks like."

Easy to get an upgrade for not much money-often for not much more than the free tea and snacks would cost. Give it a try and see for yourself!

A close friend of mine lost all her hair after a hysterectomy. She has had to wear wigs ever since.

I don't find that funny. I don't find hair loss a subject for scorn, but then I don't think it makes anyone automatically unattractive. You've mentioned Gail Porter and she's a very good looking woman with or without hair.

Shame on the posters sneering at William in this way. If you want to go that low, have you seen Harry's thinning pate recently?

Tell me this is a parody post, please tell me nobody really thinks like that

You'd hope, wouldn't you?

But I have a question for all these unusually angry 'people': what exactly (not vaguely) is your problem with privilege?

Won't hold my breath for an answer though.😁

Cryliner · 13/06/2024 17:01

I love a man in a high vis <misses point >

HollyKnight · 13/06/2024 17:03

I think he looks like his uncle Edward.

@CoffeeCantata "But I have a question for all these unusually angry 'people': what exactly (not vaguely) is your problem with privilege?"

I'm not remotely angry. My problem with privilege is an objection to people having positions of wealth, power and influence without doing anything to earn them or showing any particular talent or aptitude.

I quite like Charles. It would be sad gif him not to have his turn and he has a quirky take on thd choices he makes to use his influences.

But I’d call it that really: there’s no real power to inherit. There are checks and restraints on everything they do. This isn’t an off-with-his-head type monarchy.

That’s quite a good definition and I think it’s why I quite like Charles. I actually think he does have a degree of talent.

It’s the way of the world and as old as time and not exclusively to Royal Families, pretty sure North West didn’t land the Lion King role purely on her non existent singing talent.

He looks so much like his mother in this photo. I am a fan of bald men but I have to say it's shocking to see so many dismiss a man based on his hair. Imagine if a slew of men were to dismiss all of you based on the size of your bust. Usually you are all bleating about misogyny, the patriarchy and feminism.

Totally! Some horrible prejudiced people on this thread.

Mind you - the user-names tell you all you need to know. Squaddies are out!

I couldn't give a shit if someone criticised my tits, arse, legs, whatever. You like what you like and I don't find that 'nerdy bank manager with a monk's tonsure' look attractive or flattering. He would look better if he shaved the sides down (and yes, I know he shouldn't have to yadda yadda yadda, but along the same lines I dye my hair because it looks shit and ageing when it's grey so there we go, I'm shallow as a puddle and I'm past caring tbh).

RichardsGear · 13/06/2024 17:33

And I couldn't give a monkey's fart about his brother.

RichardsGear · 13/06/2024 17:33

And I couldn't give a monkey's fart about his brother.

That’s an eye-catching expression. Do monkey farts have a particularly noticeable quality ?

I’ve not spent much time round monkeys but have to admit the ones I have seen were good enough not to fart while I was in their presence.

CoffeeCantata · 13/06/2024 17:47

My problem with privilege is an objection to people having positions of wealth, power and influence without doing anything to earn them or showing any particular talent or aptitude.

I get the objection to the principle of monarchy (although I don't share it), and that's a valid viewpoint. But why does it have to be perverted into a spiteful attack on a man's appearance? I'm not accusing you, Curlew Kate, but others here are being vile.

I particularly wouldn't have a go at William or Charles on the basis of privilege because they're doing the job they were born to - and if we want to get rid of them we can - if there's a will (no pun intended). I don't think it's fair to take it out on the individuals. This is a constitutional monarchy within a democracy - what more is there to say? I personally think it's the least of our problems.

But we're talking about royalty/monarchy here - it's not the same as 'privilege'. I get the impression from some of the dumber posts here that it's a lazy, knee-jerk reaction to anyone who's better off than them. It used to be called 'the politics of envy.' We're all privileged compared to someone. Where do we draw the line? People who can afford expensive holidays? People who educate children privately? People in detached houses? People who can afford the latest iPhone or Netflix subscriptions? I'm just baffled at the automatic hostility to privilege itself. And it is often earned, anyway.

Then this world is not for you my dear.

JamieFraserSporran · 13/06/2024 18:04

Let's apply the same " thought processes " and I use that term very loosely to this photo then?

Quite the Anglophile aren’t you. No mention of talented people from other countries of the UK. A little Englander in fact

Yes but surely you should be more aggrieved with the nepotism from celebrity culture, they are literally taking opportunities away from people with actual talent and abilities, people who actually should have a chance of winning the part in a film or whatever, that is not the case with a constitutional monarchy they are not actually denying anyone anything, where as the nepo kids are doing exactly that, taking opportunities from talented people who have no celebrity family connections.

CurlewKate · 13/06/2024 18:17

@Forfuckssaketheearthisnotflat start a thread about nepo babies and I'll join in. This one is about the royal family.

Was thinking the same thing ! Alexander Graham Bell ? Fleming? Dylan Thomas ? Walter Scott ……..
Some posters need to remember there is a big wide world beyond the English borders!
