Part 6 of positive threads, delving into all things Meghan and Harry. Whether it’s the causes they support, their business initiatives, or Meghan’s fashion choices (Harry’s too, on occasion 😉), there’s plenty to discuss Just a pro-tip - that there may be use of MLE terms and discussions of dupes - you might want to exit stage left if these things offend. This is a relatively drama free zone - let’s keep things light! Clinking a glass of lemonade 🥂 to @queentim for the original inspiration.

I do like a departures announcement though.

Even from those that are lair-y.

@TheFirmBiscuit I should not assume you know of Remi Tinubu. She is a Nigerian politician who held office for more than a decade and is also the current First Lady of Nigeria.

Ì think Remi Tinubu's comments show Meghan doesn't 'always get it right', despite some of the claims here...

Wickedlywearynamechanged · 28/05/2024 23:42

I just had a look at the Lightway Academy Abuja Facebook page. (The school Meghan and Harry visited first day)

They have said they were not offended by Meghan’s dress (and there are multiple pictures of her wearing it on their Facebook page)

They have also said that it wasn’t true that the two girls who were holding the tray were ignored. The flowers were decoration for the tray - it also held the beads they were given so obviously it’s just people/media looking for fault when there was none.

No doubt we will find out in the fullness of time whether the First Lady Ms Remi Tinubu was referring to Meghan’s clothing in her speech, or if she was referring to the desire for many, from US and elsewhere, to find where they come from.

This doesn't even make sense.

Lelivre · 29/05/2024 18:59

I wasn't left guessing as to what she meant.

WibblyWobblyJane · 25/05/2024 23:08

You don't!

The First Lady was clearly referencing the nakedness of the MET Gala costumes. Google Rita Ora, JLo, et al for an example of what she is referencing. The MET Gala was pretty grim this year in fairness and I agree with her. She said that importing that type of dress (Kardashian, Met ) etc to Nigeria is a mistake. We are cool, people come here to find themselves - eg MM.

AnnieSF · 30/05/2024 00:31

@yesmen I don't think that is what it means at all. It was very clear that the aunties thought it was all a bit too much, too bare, too showy, too demonstrative for their culture and this is the First Lady saying so on their behalf in a semi
polite way.

OneHeartySnail · 30/05/2024 07:18

@AnnieSF i agree, it was quite clear that the references to nakedness and 'the Met ball' etc were to some of Meghan's clothing choices. The huge difference between the amount of skin she was showing compared to the people around her was stark, and quite disrespectful

Meghan wore an open backed dress with no possibility of a bra to a school. You believe the First Lady mentioned her name while talking about revealing clothing and meant something else entirely?

That’s the spin we came here to see.

AnnieSF · 30/05/2024 10:58

It's easy to see why this was so offensive to many. The dress is " look at me" as opposed to " I'm here to interact with young people". This is the very image the First Lady doesn't want imprinted into their young women's minds - " use your body to get attention, I have exposed myself over the years to get to where I am, be like me" The FL is trying to raise up a generation of young women to be strong and assertive in a difficult country.

DelectableMe · 30/05/2024 11:04

Oh my god. Why on earth would she wear that - to visit a school?!

DelectableMe · 30/05/2024 11:05

Plus, @AnnieSF - that picture where Meghan is cleaning in suspenders and stockings, where is that from?

WibblyWobblyJane · 30/05/2024 11:07

Why is she posing like a sexpot for the camera at a charity event? Ugh!

WibblyWobblyJane · 30/05/2024 11:10

I’m trying to pictures the Queen in a dress with such economical coverage, no brassiere, making that face with her shoulders up, turned sideways to pose for the cameras.

Everyone can live a life of service, indeed. Perhaps some confusion about what type of service.

It's the whole coquettish play role thing with the little girly wave - it doesn't show a woman here to talk about serious issues. It is play acting. It is "oh little me in my sexy dress ". Can you imagine any serious woman doing this?

BemusedAmerican · 30/05/2024 14:34

Has no one thought about skin cancer? Seriously???

WibblyWobblyJane · 30/05/2024 14:39

@AnnieSF

Maybe these racy photos explain why Meghan didn’t think Kate had it all that bad, even knowing that pictures of her topless were taken without her consent. Maybe it doesn’t seem like a big deal to her.
