Part 6 of positive threads, delving into all things Meghan and Harry. Whether it’s the causes they support, their business initiatives, or Meghan’s fashion choices (Harry’s too, on occasion 😉), there’s plenty to discuss Just a pro-tip - that there may be use of MLE terms and discussions of dupes - you might want to exit stage left if these things offend. This is a relatively drama free zone - let’s keep things light! Clinking a glass of lemonade 🥂 to @queentim for the original inspiration.

Autocorrect often changes “you’re”to “your” if you slightly mis type it. Often you don’t notice when it happens. I think the poster pointed this out. So possibly you were being a bit picky

I don’t mind being a bit picky on a thread like this.

How do you spin this?

jeffgoldblum · 25/05/2024 23:13

With a salad spinner???

WibblyWobblyJane · 25/05/2024 23:16

I’m trying to figure out how Kate got to the FL of Nigeria!

jeffgoldblum · 25/05/2024 23:20

I'm wondering why @Tizzwazz is claiming and thanking posters for acknowledging a post by @TheFirmBiscuit !

WibblyWobblyJane · 25/05/2024 23:29

Meghan gets credit for the success of others here at MN. The coffee company, an artist, even Misan Harriman. Maybe it’s like that.

jeffgoldblum · 25/05/2024 23:32

True!

This must be a bit of a shock to Meghan and her fans surely ? Being slagged off to this extent by the First Lady of Nigeria. "We don't accept nakedness in our culture and why is an American film star coming here". This is why the Queen and other members of the Royal Family took seriously their wardrobes so as not to offend the countries they visited. It was not about ME. It was about the hosts . This is what Meghan has yet again failed to grasp - it's not a red carpet for her to hug and kiss along in a state of half nakedness! Wow!

NoNekkidNonNigerians · 26/05/2024 00:17

The First Lady wasn’t wrong.

WibblyWobblyJane · 26/05/2024 00:30

Hoping that an expert will come along to explain how, though Jamaica is an extremely formal and conservative country, where that red dress would be out of place during an informal visit to someone’s home, in Nigeria it was the perfect attire to share a stage with the first woman and first person of color to ascend to the role of WTO director general.

WibblyWobblyJane · 26/05/2024 00:33

Or maybe they can just explain it to Remi Tinubu.

I thanked the wrong poster for posting the link.

Thanks Tizzwazz.

Well that was confusing!

The First Lady wasn’t wrong.

100%

The dust is settling on the Nigeria visit and there's bound to be a different perspective as thoughtful people reflect on it (er...I don't for a moment think that H & M will reflect...that's not really their 'thing', is it?).

But can you honestly imagine in your wildest fantasies the late Queen going to Nigeria, standing on a stage and making speeches about herself and how successful, wonderful, and adored she is? And blatantly posing as a role model for Nigerians? And so obviously basking in the attention? No - I'm sorry, I just can't imagine it.

It most certainly was not a royal visit - it was a self-serving publicity tour for H & M. I think many Nigerians, whatever their view on the Commonwealth, will look askance at the dopey, superficial, shallow and trite yakking of H & M, and M in particular. From long observation it seems to me that Meghan finds anything boring if the attention is not totally focused on her!!! She will never understand the difference between celebrity and royalty as long as she lives.

DelectableMe · 26/05/2024 12:08

I think it's hilarious, @CoffeeCantata !
Can you imagine doing that?
Telling people that you are their role model and a leader?! 😂

Lifestooshort71 · 26/05/2024 12:21

I dip in and out of these H&M threads, trying to avoid the very critical ones but that is becoming harder as they all seem to be morphing into one. I had hopes for this one started by @skullbabe but it seems to have become another Nigeria one. I'm not disagreeing with a lot that's being posted but they all seem a bit repetitious atm.

Lelivre · 26/05/2024 12:21

I haven't heard that expression 'trite yakking' before. It amused me to look it up...

To talk to one about trite or meaningless things in an exhausting, tedious, and lengthy manner, especially without letting the other person respond or engage meaningfully

Lelivre · 26/05/2024 12:47

@Lifestooshort71 I actually love the fashion and I always have enjoyed her choices (don't care about fit or if it's been properly pressed, just the general vibe) but several of the choices were very unsuitable for the occasion and it couldn't be ignored. I still liked them (except the halter neck one at the polo, I thought it was the worst thing I had seen her in actually) but many ill advised choices.

The side gape school outfit, the thigh high split up the front dress and the two bridal look items were just 'wrong time and place' and possibly person (I think she has dressed in a way that suits her age until now and I say that as someone also middle aged - but now I'm not so sure). I'm looking to like her style but this turned me off.

The gifted items were great, the yellow dress with the overlaid piece of fabric and the long skirt with the shirt. Nicely done!

Someone inevitably throws a passive-aggressive jab in about the RF or other posters then others respond and the tone changes. It’s a pattern that has been on repeat for a while.

In this case, we had some made up claptrap about “pen raging”.

It was me and it was true - indeed didn't we have 2 "pengates" ? The best thing to do then is ignore me but when all the vile, disgusting and other terms of abuse are levelled that changes the tone for the worse. A bit of humour even if it's not to your taste I find never goes amiss. I'm afraid I don't curtsy or fawn and think the Royal Family as an institution are up for public scrutiny , indeed , lampooning if necessary. It's what makes us a free country. I was away elsewhere minding my own business but that mistag roused me from my lair. I'll be away now have a nice day !

WibblyWobblyJane · 26/05/2024 14:16

It’s hard to decipher what you are saying exactly. I do see the employment of that old trick; saying something unpleasant than describing it as humor.

You can’t credibly throw stones here on this “positive” thread yourself then cry foul, claiming someone else is changing the tone.

Indeed, everyone is up for scrutiny. Just ask Remi Tinubu.

AnnieSF · 26/05/2024 14:24

Lair? 😂

NoNekkidNonNigerians · 26/05/2024 15:15

Is curtsying and fawning humour or just a sly poke?

I know how it comes across to me.
