Yes I know that the security offered b y the Palace would have been fine, but only when he was actually staying there. The rest of the time he would have needed his own security team who went with him to Nigeria. The King's security team isn't armed is it? I realise how woefully ignorant I am about this stuff.

No- it is not offered by "the Palace". They have no say because they're not the security experts.
It is the Home Office who determine the level of security.
That's Harry's beef! Look up RAVEC.
He wants continuous armed close protection wherever he is or wherever he goes in the UK. It has been deemed unnecessary. This is taxpayers money of course.

The King certainly has armed security officers at all times. However, as a non working royal who lives in California, Harry is no longer eligible for armed security, even if RAVEC have said they will keep his security needs under review and provided whatever security is deemed necessary.

Harry can bring his own private 'security team' wherever he wants, and at his own expense. However, they will not be allowed to carry arms outside America, and even there will be subject to federal and state law.

It's a special branch of the UK police, trained with weapons and close protection.
This is to prevent any VIP claiming they need protection, and bringing weapons on to the streets of the UK.
It's all determined on a case by case basis, but IPP get this as a matter of course. Harry wants to have IPP status, but doesn't at the moment.

The US president brings his own security. He does have Met security as well. I have a friend in special protection who looked after him, together with his own Security, at the Coronation. The president’s security are armed but subject to UK law. That’s why they have Met minders too

personally hoping the documentary is a bit of a damp squib just for Catherine sake. There has been a real push on social media against her for the last three days. Any negativity of Harry or Meghan always results in Catherine getting the trolling. If the documentary is before she returns or is bad for Harry and Meghan then the abuse for Catherine will be off the scale.

I've noticed that too @Vespanest , and I did wonder why it was kicking back up again (with Bouzy leading the charge again).

The German doc coming up would be a possible reason.

I'm inclined to think the German doc isn't going to be that unflattering to them tbh, probably just mildly critical of the way they're running their foundations etc, with a bit of mild gossip thrown in.

The issue for H&M is that they are far too controlling - they seem to have a visceral need to be in total control of the narrative. If they just realised no one on earth can do that they'd probably be far happier.

It's appalling what's swirling around the TwiX sewer at the moment regarding W&C, with Rose H being dragged into things again. I've seen the SS referred to as the Sewer Squad and it's an apt moniker.

Yes, I know.
I was talking about Harry, vis a vis the Royal Protection Squad and RAVEC.
About which Harry seems to be wilfully ignorant.

Ah ok. But you quoted my post where I said the US president brings his own security which made it sound like you disagreed with that. Sorry if that isn’t the case

MrsFinkelstein · 19/05/2024 12:40

@DelectableMe I'm not sure Harry is completely ignorant of the details, but IMO it's more he thinks he should get his own way anyway. He's special you see.

DelectableMe · 19/05/2024 12:42

I think that's most likely the case, @MrsFinkelstein ! The case of Harry v the Home Office over this is fascinating, and his attitude extraordinary - he's really equivalent security wise to the King, the US President and M. Macron?! He also was so furious about the last ruling that he demanded to know who had made the decision "I want the name!" .

ShamedBySiri · 19/05/2024 12:43

I recently had a tour of Highgrove gardens (tickets won in a raffle!).
There were armed gun toting police on the driveway to the parking area and stood in front of the house as we passed through the terrace.

Pretty sure The King wasn't in residence at the time. Maybe they all pack up and go home after the tours have finished leaving just a skeleton security but I think I can confirm he has armed protection.

Gardens were lovely by the way. A very enjoyable day and best raffle prize I've ever had!

DelectableMe · 19/05/2024 12:46

Of course the Kng has armed protection. It's the Royal Protection Squad. They guard him and the Queen, the PoW and PssoW, and other royals on official duties.
None of the royals make decisions about this security themselves, though.

DelectableMe · 19/05/2024 12:52

The more fervent Harry supporters on these threads like to claim that Harry doesn't get protection and that the RF have stopped it. Neither point is true.

MaturingCheeseball · 19/05/2024 12:56

Re Windsor Castle - if that had been granted then I betcha Meghan would have stayed there en route to Nigeria (instead of at airport). It would have top secret, except for the pap walk down Windsor high street… They need to keep that royal connection going.

Babybreath · 19/05/2024 13:09

The 'grabbing' Harry's arm incident shows how inept his advisors or whoever arranged the tour are. I'm sure royal tours are arranged to the second and any participation in activities be it dancing or playing a bit of sport would have been choreographed, so that awkward incidents like this don't happen. It was all a bit champagne taste with beer money.

AliceOlive · 19/05/2024 13:10

I just watched the video of Harry being led by the arm. I think he handled that well for someone who has probably never been grabbed and dragged like that before. It must have been a bit startling. Where were his protection officerS?

Babybreath · 19/05/2024 13:15

@AliceOlive they were probably looking after M , it seemed to be her tour after all.
Looks like we will need a new thread

Dipping back to the German documentary, I think it's really good that an (apparently) professional journalist is pulling this together, and that it's not being done in Britain, where the media would be accused of racial bias against Meghan. If the same accusations fly, at least they can't blame the British press this time. Presumably the German team will have no loyalty to the RF, so will be happy to be completely open with what they find.

Who's the journalist?

My understanding is that he wants IPP status so that he can have taxpayer provided security wherever he goes .
Harry himself said he assured Meghan he would never have his security removed .

Or maybe security is just not as much of a priority as Harry has made it out to be?
