colleagues but socially in stores etc. The Brit accent & being an outlier prompts it. Catherine & W leads to M & H. Just IME the general feeling is a warm one.

That seems so odd. There are masses of African American women who have amazing careers. My husband's niece is one of them. That type of thinking suggests that all AAW live in deep poverty and have no success. It's ludicrous in fact and insulting to them.

@AnnieSF yes, agree. I don’t mean to be disrespectful, @ ofc AAW not all in deep poverty. IME the genuine feeling for some is M’s admirable & showcases the American dream to an extent.

I do think it’s difficult for many African American women to thrive in the US. The playing field here is not level from day one.

I spent time recently with a US based African woman with a stellar career in a male dominated field. One subject was what it’s like to be a woman in this field and also to be a woman of color. Not easy!

Definitely @AliceOlive the USA is an extremely conservative and traditional country in my experience.

It makes me sad if these are young women and think becoming an actress and marrying a rich coddled white guy is the path to happiness.

I'm surprised that the American Dream is to marry a privileged aristocrat. I would have thought that the huge number of African American women who are successful through their own efforts and endeavours would embody the American Dream far more than that. There are plenty of amazing role models who have achieved a lot by themselves.

In the context of the recent trip I saw figures quoted for biz jet hire West coast US> Nigeria one way up at around $150,000, so now you know why they went commercial.

Buying and running your own biz jet, for sole use only….good way of getting through millions overnight unless you in turn hire the thing out.

This is factually incorrect.

They are not popular with anyone in "the States".

For Republicans, dominated (whether they like it or not) by Trump, they embody left-wing wokery, anti-nationalism, inclusivity and what they think is diversity. They're actively disliked in red states, and the feeling is certainly mutual.

For Democrats, they're a joke. They're not serious players, they're not clever enough, they're not thick-skinned enough, they lack startegy, the diplomatic problems are too difficult - they're just irrelevant other than being a distraction if anything (they're not even that).

Talk of any serious political forays is seriously overstated. Neither of them has even a fraction of what it takes.

I do agree that they're probably more popular here than in the UK, and that's only because they're not AT ALL popular in the UK (au contraire). So, a low bar.

An accurate assessment would be "irrelevant" to "annoyingly inserting themselves in weird places" and "mildly entertaining for their transparent grifting".

How handy it must have been to be given a princess title when visiting Nigeria so that people can call her Princess Meghan.
