@IcedPurple how much money do they need to maintain & improve lifestyle? I think status important to M & ultimately private jet, yacht wealth.

She's not going to get that flogging jam on the internet.

Despite surveys to the contrary, IME they ARE popular in the States, particularly in the red states. This may change in time but I feel the USA support is much stronger than most in UK assume.

I’m guessing from your wording it “The States” that you are not a resident? (Just a guess.).

My experience is no one ever mentions them at all.

User14March · 17/05/2024 14:28

@IcedPurple quite.

User14March · 17/05/2024 14:31

@AliceOlive very long stints all over & currently it’s pretty universal where I am. If the belief & value system is largely ‘status & beauty’ & UK royalty has much appeal stateside, she/they are ticking boxes.

AliceOlive · 17/05/2024 14:34

So you’re in Southern California where status and beauty rule?

Abouttimeforanamechange · 17/05/2024 14:41

UK royalty has much appeal stateside,

But H&M are UK royalty only insofar as they use the titles, which are pretty irrelevant in the US. They don't bring with them any of the state occasions, pageantry, ceremonial, historical significance. So what is the appeal of these two, precisely?

User14March · 17/05/2024 14:42

@AliceOlive southern states mainly & all over. Beauty & status seem to trump a lot in south to generalise. I don’t think you, do but some assume a hated duo stateside & IME not the case at all.

Yes.

Surely the appeal of the royals is the very fact that they not celebrities? That they live in England and do royal things? Not in California, doing C list celebrity things? Simply being related to the King and having titles isn't terribly interesting in itself.

User14March · 17/05/2024 14:44

@Abouttimeforanamechange they are ‘Prince’ & ‘Princess’ and have wealth & status, for some, that is enough & they don’t know or care for detail.

They're actually not rich at all by Montecito standards.

If they're so 'popular' why did Spotify dump them, with Netflix likely to do the same?

I don’t think they are hated in the US but not many are interested or even aware. Some mockery. The South Park episode didn’t come out of nowhere.

jeffgoldblum · 17/05/2024 14:48

I'm more inclined to listen to the two resident Americans currently on this board , both from different areas but in agreement on most things @AliceOlive and @BemusedAmerican .

User14March · 17/05/2024 14:48

@IcedPurple that’s an intelligent and informed perspective. If you don’t have a passport and see a prince & beautiful princess on the TV who has the marginalised backs possibly you’ll see it differently.

User14March · 17/05/2024 14:49

@jeffgoldblum fair enough. Be interested to hear from red state southern residents too. I’ve been surprised, let’s say, spending long stints.

Say what?

User14March · 17/05/2024 14:52

@IcedPurple I am saying some folks will see the glitter, gloss, glamour & good stuff & not deep it more. Marrying a prince, a fairytale etc.

AliceOlive · 17/05/2024 14:52

I’m fascinated to hear how the topics comes up with people, @User14March

No one ever mentions them to me.

Also, can you describe what you mean “has the marginaliseds backs”? How this is demonstrated?

IcedPurple · 17/05/2024 14:54

That's all very well and good, but how are they going to pay for a Montecito lifestyle with that?

To repeat, so far none of their non royal related projects has been a financial success.

AliceOlive · 17/05/2024 14:54

If you are in the South and a blue state it can really only be NC or Georgia.

User14March · 17/05/2024 14:55

@AliceOlive I was speaking to an African American woman and her friends who have found life tough, they see M as a trailblazer. The Buckingham palace tourist who is now married to a prince & forged her own career as they see it.

This definitely happened.

User14March · 17/05/2024 14:56

@IcedPurple that’s what I am curious to see. How much £ is needed?

Just trying to work out if I’m too isolated to meet people that actually care about them. Maybe there are tons of people that do, but it certainly never comes up in conversation.
