She is not a 'powerful character'. The only reason anyone cares about her is because she married an intellectually and emotionally challenged British prince. Spotify dumped her and Netflix will likely do the same. 4 years after finding freedom, she is hawking jam and doing pretend royal tours in a poor, dangerous and corrupt nation.

If it weren't for marrying a dim prince, she'd likely be looking for roles in Hallmark movies now. Nothing wrong with that, and perhaps more respectable than whatever it is she's getting up to now, but it's laughable to claim she's a 'powerful character'.

Hard agree. Anyone who wants to know how ruthlessly she planned to get to where she is today (arguably not where most of us would want to be, I know!) should read Tom Bower's book.

Meghan has zero qualifications to become president, and it's moot anyway, rightly or wrongly most Americans don't have that appetite for a woman president, Obama was an amazing leap forward but wasn't a popular choice with certain demographics, a poc woman ( also an actress married to foreign royalty) doesn't stand a snowballs chance in hell !
I'm assuming you're joking rather than putting forward a viable opinion.

@TheTallestSally I see the two being interchangeable. How influential though? That’s a fair point & time will tell.

Time will indeed tell.

But with position comes ridicule.

And as @Serenster said, I don’t think someone’s hide can ever be thick enough. More so if certain questionable images follow her about.

It isn’t something that would be for me and in some ways I admire her pluck and her neck but she seems to get upset very easily.

She’d be pulled apart.

And as much as I’ve taken agains the actions of that duo, I’d not want to see that for her.

MyFunnyDuckDuck · 14/05/2024 17:40

Meghan for president? Na don't see it. Michelle on the other hand.

Now that I would love to see.

JSMill · 14/05/2024 17:57

A couple of months ago, I heard a journalist on the radio that there was a rumour some democrats wanted to put Michelle Obama on the ticket as the vice presidential candidate. Biden would resign and she would become president. Wishful thinking perhaps.

TheTallestSally · 14/05/2024 18:01

Wishful thinking it may be.

I would wish.

Serenster · 14/05/2024 17:31

Yes, but the ones that don’t think that lampoon him mercilessly. I can’t see Meghan having the thick skin required to deal with that. I also think her well documented history of collapsing to the floor in tears would stand her well in the cut and thrust of politics.

He was governor of California too. His acting was rather secondary to his politics.

@IcedPurple let’s just say I recognise the type, and she has what it takes to go a very long way. Some really do achieve the impossible & unimaginable. It depends on what M ultimately wants.

Do you need to visit specsavers 🤔

Ratsoffasinkingsauage · 14/05/2024 18:15

It must be hard for their die hard followers to accept that the Sussexes are a laughing stock outside their little echo chamber.

But I’ll tell you now that even the wokest, most progressive of my younger colleagues sees them as embarrassing grifters.

MrsLeonFarrell · 14/05/2024 18:31

Since Trump I find it impossible to rule out anyone from being president. But having said that I don't see any evidence that Meghan is gathering any kind of political team or any political contacts. Without those she won't be able to succeed because they don't have the money to run as an independent.

I also don't see any evidence that she wants to be president. The campaigning process is ghastly, second only to being in the Royal family in terms of exposure I would think.

That would be too good to be true. But you never know.

How could they not see them as that? They're mega rich, which most young people cannot relate. Add to this their image as having no contact with family or old friends and they become even less relatable. Also Meghan's mean. Not sure why, but Nellie from little house on the prairie comes to mind 😂

TheTallestSally · 14/05/2024 17:28

A strong determined woman? Yes.
A powerful character? Arguable.

I don’t see her as particularly strong or determined. She runs away from things like a coward and never sees anything through. When the going gets tough she jacks it in.

AliceOlive · 14/05/2024 18:52

I can’t particularly see that putting someone on the ballot in order to later pull a bait and switch is a positive thing. But put nothing past any of them.

TheTallestSally · 14/05/2024 18:54

Fair point peanut

I do think she can be determined for certain things though.

She seemed very determined to get H. I wonder if she sometimes wonders why.

MaturingCheeseball · 14/05/2024 19:17

@MyFunnyDuckDuck - Nellie from Little House on the Prairie! You’re quite right!

Also at best Becky Sharp, at worst Tracey Barlow off Coronation Street…

Mymilkshakebringsallthepapstomycar · 14/05/2024 19:51

@MyFunnyDuckDuck love the Nellie Olson comparison! And her brother, Willie was a sniveling little creep trailing behind her and moaning, so a great model for Harry. I saw an interview recently with the actress who played Nellie, and she is absolutely lovely, and was great friends irl with Melissa Gilbert (Laura).

Really hope that isn’t what was meant here. I don’t like it when it is applied to anyone.

Though oddly, I did once determine I wanted a date with someone and remain quite proud of the way I maneuvered it into happening. I guess I don’t see it as such a terrible thing, but it doesn’t qualify me for the presidency. 🤣

Just seen this on TwiX. It looks very shady…..edited out the account to be on the safe side.

Invictus can’t be ok with this?

notimagain · 14/05/2024 20:40

If you Google Invictus directly you’ll see there’s a link to a donations page and there is indeed a “sentinel” scheme, contains the following comment:

”We need your help to protect and perpetuate the Invictus Spirit. And we now invite you to do this by the new and exciting opportunity of becoming A SENTINEL: a guardian of the Invictus Spirit.
By becoming an Invictus Sentinel, you can commit to a monthly donation of whatever amount you can afford for as long as you can afford it. “

I don’t know why you’d sign up via a third party.

I think we all can be determined if we want something (someone?) enough AliceOlive

My nan used to say we make our own chances in life and to an extent she’s right.

I would wish happiness for anyone and everyone. Where I struggle with it is when not everyone takes that outlook and then I’m considerably less charitable.

I’m not a perfect person but I would like to think that I stand by my word, am honest and would not set out to deliberately hurt someone.

Even if sometimes my choice of words don’t come out too well.

MummyJ12 · 14/05/2024 20:45

Thanks @notimagain that’s really interesting. It just seems so dodge!

They are obviously overspending in areas….

Babybreath · 14/05/2024 21:07

I thought the charity was suspended due to not filing.

MummyJ12 · 14/05/2024 21:14

Archewell is @Babybreath but this is Invictus.

Absolutely. Agree with all of this.
