Can this be true? That Harry and Meghan are off on a “royal” trip to Nigeria? What’s the game now? My head is spinning!

I expect the King didn’t want to meet Harry because everything he said will be reported back in some chat show or other.
Funny how Harry isn’t safe here but has no qualms about going to Nigeria. Such a twat.

I can’t believe he is so irresponsible as to bring a Netflix crew (if he has) to the unsafe UK 🙄

Very good point. I hope they had security as well, but probably they're expected to fend for themselves while they trail around after him. Presumably NF did a risk assessment 😆

queenofarles · 09/05/2024 08:50

My DF was visiting his sick DB every six weeks when he was receiving Chemotherapy , he did that because financially he can afford plane tickets to travel to check on his DB , his schedule is flexible, and they are very close.
if Harry really wanted to see his father and check on him , why didn’t he plan to visit him since last he saw his father in January? Why not Feb, March ? April? When king was not working .
Why just when he really had to be in the UK for Invictus ?

For some parents it’s quite heartbreaking when you do that, plan on visiting them only when it suits you, or maybe it’s the Eastern half in me that thinks like that? .

Mylovelygreendress · 09/05/2024 08:54

I think if Harry had brought the children , it might have been a little different.

ZellyFitzgerald · 09/05/2024 08:57

I do think a quiet private visit bringing the kids and Meghan would go down far better than dropping in when he just happens to be in the UK for his own benefit.

We all know he has the money and resources to fly whenever he wants and wherever he wants.

So if he really wants to see Charles for a personal visit, he would have done it way before now.

Also, if Charles did refuse a visit with just himself and Harry then I done blame him. Charles has probably been advised to have plenty of witnesses present at meetings going forward so that he can't be accused of racism again. And Harry's only got himself to blame for that!

How’s the travel being paid for?

Cynical? Moi?

MaturingCheeseball · 09/05/2024 09:03

Imagine having to be so wary of your own son Sad . And bringing a Netflix crew - that really says this trip and the Nigeria jaunt are all about promoting Brand Sussex.

Edited

well if your biggest concern is who’s paying for my your Traveling expenses , then perhaps seeing your father might not be your top priority?

Do you think so? I doubt he’s too bothered about children with whom he’s had (as far as we know) no relationship. It’s not like he doesn’t have other grandchildren, and indeed step grandchildren. The Sussexes flounced out of that relationship when they sold their stories to the world. Now what they’re left with is Doria and the nannies.

Puzzledandpissedoff · 09/05/2024 09:22

ArcaneWireless · 09/05/2024 08:13

There was no need to say the King was too busy to see H.

It was clear he had engagements.

There was no need to announce anything at all. Unless of course it is to add to a victim narrative.

Exactly

We don't need the ridiculous media for this one; the snubs couldn't be plainer, and there's probably been a lot more gone on behind the scenes we don't know about

Perhaps Harry would do well to think about why his father isn't making time to see him, but I won't hold my breath

Edited to add I've no idea if it's true about a Netflix crew tagging along, but with Spotify gone and not much more on the scene, Harry probably needs to dance to their tune to keep them onside now

Tlolljs · 09/05/2024 09:23

It’s all just so unnecessary ffs. All she had to do was go to Wigan on a wet Wednesday, smile, cut a ribbon, wear a fucking hat!
Once they were settled then they could’ve picked projects they were interested in. But no they wanted to be top dogs. They want their heads knocking together.

MummyJ12 · 09/05/2024 09:31

I’ve read something about FGM still being a huge issue in Nigeria and they refuse to adhere to the UN human rights charter on it.
It is not somewhere that a self proclaimed feminist or humanitarian should be going without an agenda to raise awareness and to campaign against the practice of FGM?
I’m suspecting that it will go unmentioned and ignored though because that’s more convenient for them.

I’m sure he’s like to meet them. He may have other grandchildren, but they are still his grandchildren and I’m sure he wouldn’t say that one set of grandchildren aren’t important to him just because he has “others” 🤷‍♀️

I think the job is a lot more than that tbf. It’s also about minding what you say and do every second of the day.

I don’t blame either of them for not wanting the job, but I do blame them for expecting to keep the perks.

The persecution and prosecution of homosexuals; the mass killings of Christians (estimated 6000 in 2023); the mass kidnapping of school children (last mass abduction was in March this year)....

edit for typo

You wouldn't think so would you? But they're prepared to call them "HRH" so that's okay and they get a pass ...

BruFord · 09/05/2024 12:07

The sad irony is that Harry had become to the RF what Thomas Markle is to Meghan. He made deals with the paps before the wedding so she couldn’t trust him and no longer speaks to him. Harry’s done the same, sold his story and predictably, the RF are now reluctant to interact with him in case every conversation gets leaked.

You’d think that H & M would understand this. 🤷

Abouttimeforanamechange · 09/05/2024 12:26

I think M. had already dumped her father before he talked to the paps, hadn't she? Harry had never met him.

Ah, perhaps she had, @Abouttimeforanamechange , I thought selling his story caused the mega-rift.

It just occurred to me that there’s parallels between H’s behavior and his-you blab about your family for money, they can’t trust you and avoid you. What else does Harry expect?

NoisySnail · 09/05/2024 12:44

@BruFord I am glad Queen Elizabeth did not take that approach when Charles blabbed about and criticised his family.

@NoisySnail Are you talking about the 1990’s interview? I don’t think it’s quite the same as publishing a book and having a camera crew follow him around.

NoisySnail · 09/05/2024 12:49

@BruFord I am older. Trust me it was a VERY big deal that Charles publicly criticised Queen Elizabeth's mothering skills and Philip's fathering skills. It probably hurt Elizabeth very much.

Yes, that was one of the things I found odd about the whole Markle situation - at no point during their dating or engagement did she introduce her Harry to her father. They were able to move between the UK and Canada, and holiday in Botswana, but not visit her family.

BruFord · 09/05/2024 12:57

I imagine Prince Philip was incandescent with rage!

They obviously got past it somehow and it probably helped if Charles wasn’t paid fir his revelations, as there’d be no cash incentives to make more (perhaps he was paid, I have no idea).

I would like to see Harry reconciled with the RF but my point is that right now, they seem to regard him as a Thomas Markle-type who’ll blab to the media for cash. Perhaps he’ll demonstrate otherwise and they’ll start to trust each other again.

NoisySnail · 09/05/2024 12:59

@OneHeartySnail Harry met Meghan's family. He did not meet her father. Meghan is estranged from her father.
