Can this be true? That Harry and Meghan are off on a “royal” trip to Nigeria? What’s the game now? My head is spinning!

I have seen a photograph of a young, bearded Philip in a white naval uniform, and there was a real likeness to Harry.

LaMarschallin · 08/05/2024 16:25

CoffeeCantata

Diana had a fairly large nose - a strong feature.

I'm sure I read (can't find any links - probably too long ago) around the time of Charles' and Diana's engagement that she'd told a friend that she'd never liked her nose "but it's too late to get it altered now".
Presumably because her face had become so famous so quickly that such a change would be very obvious.

How can anyone look at those side by sides of William and Diana and say they don't see the resemblance 😄. He looks very like her, and Harry doesn't, much to his chagrin.

He was of the house of Schleswig Holstein Sonderburg Glucksburg, which is about as German as it gets!

It's the house of the Danish royal family! Denmark lost Schleswig Holstein to a land grab by Prussia in the 1860s.

Have a look at his heritage it was Danish and it was also German.

The current Danish royal family are descended from that house, but it was originally a German royal house.

DH once saw Diana in her car going to a premiere in Leicester Square. He described her as "a young woman with a big nose"...!!

Absolutely. Battenberg heritage, amongst others.

Looks like the UK FCO have been trying to get a certain message out via the local media ahead of time

“Prince Harry, Meghan accept invitation to visit Nigeria
5th May 2024

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle
Agency Report

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex, Prince Harry and his wife, Meghan, have agreed to visit Nigeria at the invitation of the country’s Chief of Defence Staff, Gen. Christopher Musa.

British High Commissioner in Nigeria, Dr Richard Montgomerry, disclosed this in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria in the course of his courtesy visit to the Managing Director of the agency, Malam Ali M. Ali, in Abuja.

He said, “It’s great that the Duke and Duchess of Sussex are visiting Nigeria, which I understand is at the invitation of Defence Headquarters.

“But they are visiting in a private capacity, not an official one.

“So, the British High Commission is not involved in arranging or facilitating their programme.

“They are not representing the work of His Majesty’s Government on this visit.””

Good one! Nice and clear.
Just in case anyone thought they were representing anything other than themselves. 👍

Why would anyone think that in the first place. They are non working royals now theninvite was clearly a personal invite. Only the press has been trying to make out it was more than that. 🙄

I’m sure lots people would be forgiven for thinking it is more than a personal invite, particularly if they are not that familiar with the BRF. Some are bound to imagine that as Harry has been addressed as HRH he still represents the UK. Which is why the FCO felt the need to make it clear that he doesn’t, together with his form for sticking his oar in as he did in Canada

Well they will given that at least two tabloids are calling it 'a quasi royal visit' when it's nothing of the sort.

I see King Charles’ schedule is too busy to allow time to see Harry.

Yes, he was very busy at a Garden Party. Now he's having his Bournvita.

LaMarschallin · 08/05/2024 22:15

Mmm... Bournvita 😍

AnnieSF · 08/05/2024 23:04

@LumiB desperate people will cling on to any crumb of officialdom or tradition to try to make themselves seem better/ less corrupt/ a saviour/win votes/gain popularity. It's a bigger version of saying " do you want a new TV or washing machine?"

VelcroCat · 08/05/2024 23:12

Michael Palins programmes about visiting Nigeria give a good insight into the country.

Yes what a bastard King Charles is. Interrupting his cancer treatment to attend an event for 8000 people nominated to be there so he could honour their service to their organisations or communities.

Ah poor lad. I am sure the Palace will do something lovely for him. Can't believe the arseholes criticising King Charles for not bailing on this event and its attendees.

Shame the garden party lasts from morning to late evening not giving Charles even half an hour to meet his son.
