I don't know where the story of returned jam comes from, wouldn't you just dump it in the bin rather than go to the bother of returning it, unless someone really wanted to purposely insult her.

Yes, I think that's a real message to say don't use me to try to heighten yourself

Mymilkshakebringsallthepapstomycar · 28/04/2024 15:15

I don’t think it’s necessarily an insult to return the jam if it’s done graciously. Don’t many celebrities get paid for endorsements, so doing an endorsement unpaid for a potential rival, or just doing one for free for a stranger, sets a difficult precedent for them? Also, if endorsing products is just not your jam (ha ha) or certainly not something you do in your domestic market, then returning it with a gracious thanks but no thanks note would be best all round. That way, nothing gets wasted, and there are no misunderstanding or room for misinformation to suggest that the celeb kept the jam and used it. The jam can be sent out to someone on the reserve list instead.

ZellyFitzgerald · 28/04/2024 15:19

I believe there really is an issue between the Sussexes and Kevin Costner.

If you read around the subject of his Fundraiser One805, their shared agent forced him to invite them to the event.

He made a comment about 'friends with bad manners' asking about the value of his property in his speech which was directed at Meghan.

Meghan went on stage and tried to take the microphone off the host which was recorded.

The videos of the event are very cringey to watch and Costner was obviously not happy!

ladybirdsanchez · 28/04/2024 17:01

I just found a video on YouTube talking about Adele and Kevin Costner supposedly returning Meghan's jam and I didn't realise that all 50 jars supposedly got sent out at the same time, but only a handful of people have publicly acknowledged them. That makes sense now .... The whole thing is really rather pathetic tbh. Did she grow the strawberries? Does anyone honestly believe she MADE the jam?

FlouncetteLaFroth · 28/04/2024 17:25

ladybird

Well that makes sense.

I had wondered if it was some kind of preserve advent calendar.

i wouldn’t have numbered them as there will always be those who will speculate a/ who got the other numbers or b/ who snubbed it.

Hopefully she got private thank yous. Not everything needs to be shoved on SM and so if people chose to acknowledge their basket privately, I hope that is honoured.

EmpressOfTheThread · 28/04/2024 17:27

She tried to get the microphone?
I hope that's on camera!

ladybirdsanchez · 28/04/2024 17:30

Yes, me too. The numbered jars, the one person saying thank you at a time, etc. But then the numbers weren't consecutive ...

It is. Just Google it and you'll find it.

It's on YouTube. It's embarrassing. The woman held on to it for dear life. Good for her!

I think there was an order not to give her the microphone at any point, because at one point Harry was offered the microphone and he indicated for Meghan to take it, but the guy holding it refused and tried to make a joke about it😂

EmpressOfTheThread · 28/04/2024 19:21

That's so cringeworthy! I'm embarrassed for her!

LaMarschallin · 01/05/2024 07:31

Now I can't get the episode of Friends where Ross whitens his teeth out of my mind:
"Are you gonna eat that bread?"
"No, I just like smelling it"

ShamedBySiri · 01/05/2024 07:58

I find all these pictures of bread/toast etc smeared with copious jam really unpleasant and unappetising. Who eats jam like that?

In fact I think the pictures these jamfluincers post speak volumes for the fact that they never eat the stuff.

JADS · 01/05/2024 07:59

I'm beginning to think that this ARO thing is all a spoof and the Netflix program will actually be about 'deinfluencing'. This jamfluencer thing is Meghan gathering DM headlines to prove how horrible the media are and how easy they are to manipulate. If she includes ARO UK and calls out the SS's mad behaviour towards the Trussell Trust, I would watch that.

Sageyboots · 01/05/2024 08:26

im not a big fan of online advertising and endorsements anyway - but jam is such an ordinary thing to be raving all over the internet about - like rolling on the grass with a can of tuna or a box of dishwasher tablets. It slightly reminds me of that episode of father ted where father jack loves his brick.

i often get preserves gifted from friends and family members, my dad makes a great pickalilli - but I generally say thank you and put it in the cupboard. Trying to create hype and content out of such an ordinary thing is really strange.

LadyWhineglass · 01/05/2024 08:29

Is it more about the person and not the product? If Nigella Lawson gifted me some homemade jam I would be sure to tell everyone I knew about it and I would live stream the opening and the eating to the world. Actually, no one has tasted the ARO jam. Does it exist?

AnnieSF · 01/05/2024 14:52

So now we know it does indeed have a screw top lid. Nothing exciting under that rustic piece of cloth hand woven by cherubs at dawn, sprinkled with morning dew.

AnnieSF · 01/05/2024 14:53

Is that jar the Tardis as that amount of jam surely didn't come out of that jar?

First time I've seen someone near orgasmic over jam, FGS.

That image really evokes an elite, sophisticated brand, doesn't it?

Contrast with this being discussed elsewhere. Apparently the squad have been posting lots of negative reviews of this company because they denied supplying ARO See here. Then they have been boasting about the damage they have done

Looks like Tiptree or Fortnum jars from here.

Just read the comments. What was that about 'hate' again?

Thedom · 01/05/2024 15:17

OMG, they are dangerous, apparently the company was asked if it was their jam being sent out by MM, as the jar and cloth cover were similar, they answered in a tongue in cheek manner about faux Royals and bad labelling.

Sentebale have again thanked them for their donation (apparently).
