@GoodAfternoonGoodEveningAndGoodnight , I didn’t say she would “only be good” for anything. Those are your words, not mine.

I have a wonderful Mauviel copper jam pot that I use for my paperwhites , looks fabulous on the dinner table, but that’s just about it ! a centrepiece for the table . Much easier to buy jam, it’s the one thing in abundance!

actually a cookbook is not a bad idea , a collection of recipes, a family recipe with lovely story to go with it anything!

I'm not fancy enough for a jam pot, yours does sound lovely though 😁
I'd be up for some kitchen stuff in the form of an apron for when I do actually get round to baking/,jam making, or maybe a pretty tablecloth?!

I’ve not tried that. Is it in all good supermarkets?

I’d a fabulous no fail recipe once from a Canadian friend and I’ve lost it. Gutted.

I used to get them from our local Sainsbury’s . Haven’t looked for them for a while though. They are really nice though as a bit of a cheat.

FlouncetteLaFroth · 27/04/2024 15:18

I sadly think that something like that is out of their grasp now @StiffyByngsDogBartholomew

Straight cooking shows are also out of fashion now. As with so much else, if you're looking for a recipe you'll head to Youtube or social media, rather than sit around watching on the off chance that the TV cook is making something you fancy. The peak of the 'celebrity chef' was some time ago. And Meghan is not a celebrity chef. She has no background in cooking at all.

So there will need to be something 'extra' to draw in viewers. The blurb mentioned something about 'celebrating friendship' so I wonder if some of the recipients of the amazing jam are involved? But if so, does anyone care about any of them?

Only if “celebrating friendship” is along the lines of, “Well, Ash, lovely to see you here (even though you do actually work for me). You’re a much better friend than Catherine, Jessica [insert broken friendship]. While we sort these dirty dishes, let’s dish the dirt on those bitches!!”

queenofarles · 27/04/2024 15:31

Mrs Alice brand gives me the ick😖,
its all very cheap looking.
A lot of her products are copies of others.

I would watch that!

But if so, does anyone care about any of them?"

Going by the amount of interest on these threads, whether that's positive or negative attention, I'd say that's a definite yes 😁

EmpressOfTheThread · 27/04/2024 15:44

Yes, they don't care. Positive, negative, clicks count.
The day the press ignore them, will be a sad day for them.

FlouncetteLaFroth · 27/04/2024 15:46

One would wonder if it would be acceptable to draw in viewers because of genuine interest or because of ridicule.

The network wouldn’t care of course but those involved might.

So all they will be is low rent reality “stars”. Real Housewives eat your heart out.

That's not really how it works. Indulging in some idle internet gossip isn't the same as giving up hours of your time to watch a show. Meghan had the same kind of 'friends' on her podcast, and after the initial curiosity wore off, it failed to attract a wide audience and Spotify dumped her and her husband.

Yeah, not sure exactly what was being got at there 😁

Whether fairly or unfairly, Meghan now has something of a reputation for being transactional in personal relationships and jettisoning those who are no longer useful.

This is an opportunity for her to reset that.

But that will be achieved by showing us interactions with a good set of friends, not by telling us what friendship is about. It'll be interesting to see how this plays in practice. Or if indeed the friends in question are indeed her friends, or if she instead invites on pairs/groups of friends (perhaps chosen for some culinary talent or "heart-warming" story for her to "shine a light on" - you'll see from my use of inverted commas that I think that approach would not hit the mark, but I'm not the target audience - it may go down better in US)

FlouncetteLaFroth · 27/04/2024 16:02

I can understand cosying up to the rich, famous and successful ladybird.

I can understand how success can be linked to wealth and fame.

What I struggle with is how those came by their fame. Or infamy. And why I would want to hitch myself to that particular wagon.

It could be, of course, that they mixed in the same circles before they married a prince or had a show or whatever.

So why is the schmoozing so public and so recent?

No it isn't, but a lot of those who do will also watch her show.
Have you not heard of the term "hate watching?"
Instagram bloggers will verify that not everyone watching is doing it as they love everything about them, half the time it's to watch, run to Tattle or wherever and pull apart/take the piss 😁

"Hate watching" might work for a few episodes, but won't sustain an entire series.

I guess it depends on whether or not it enters 'so bad it's good' territory. Like I say, her podcast didn't attract much of an audience beyond the initial curiosity. It was just rather dull.

Oh I don’t know, I’ve managed 2 series of as good as it gets, 2 season of walking dead after Rick went and good knows why I’m still watching greys.

EdithWeston · 27/04/2024 17:25

I dunno about hate-watching - has anyone really got time for that?

Remember in "Rivals" when Declan was going off the boil and he just knew people were watching in the hope it would be better this week? People might cling to something they used to like, in the hope they'll like it again. But they won't keep watching something they've never liked.

So one big pitfall is that, at the launch, people will watch an episode or two out of sheer curiosity, and that will give big figures and an illusion of success. And then the big question is whether she can keep them watching after that, because that will be the measure of real success

GoodAfternoonGoodEveningAndGoodnight · 27/04/2024 17:27

You clearly haven't come across any of the IG bloggers, yes people really do do that and it's utterly bizarre 😁
