Anyone watching this?
I've just put it on.

I didn’t know it was on yet! I’ll definitely be watching this weekend

2dogsandabudgie · 05/04/2024 18:47

Isn't it just a drama though, a bit like The Crown so the dialogue won't actually be true?

Hoplittlebunnyhophophopandstop · 05/04/2024 18:48

Is the original interview still available some where?

The interview with Emily Maitlis will be accurate.

I suppose if people haven't seen the original interview it will be interesting, but it doesn't seem that long ago that it was aired.

HurdyGurdy19 · 05/04/2024 18:54

Just put it on, having seen your thread 😀

Itsnotallaboutyoulikeyouthink · 05/04/2024 19:00

It’s nothing new if you saw the original interview or have read about it. Rather flat I thought.

Gillian Anderson brought her Maggie thatcher voice with her from the crown which was quite distracting. Must think all English women sound like Mags.

Moonshine5 · 05/04/2024 19:02

I thought it was excellent.
Based on story of the producer (I think) who "got" the scoop Sam McAllister.
Very watchable.

minou123 · 05/04/2024 19:06

Yes, just watched it.

I was just about to start a thread.

I thought it was good.
Obviously they have dramatised the conversations between Andrew, and his press people at the Palace, but the background of how Newsnight got the interview is really interesting.

Not that there is any spoilers, because we all watched the interview. But I do have a couple of criticisms. So dont read on if this will ruin it for you

I thought Gillian Anderson as Emily Matis overall was good. The only issue is she slipped into a 'Maggie Thatcher' accent a couple of times.

The bit at the end with Andrew getting out of the bath and reading his phone- very unnecessary and put me off the chocolate hob nob I was eating.

TheShellBeach · 05/04/2024 19:23

I think some of the content of the dramatised conversations between PA and his aides is unlikely

I don't think her voice was the same as the voice she used as Maggie.

I am saving myself for the Ruth Wilson and Michael Sheen version, A Very Royal Scandal, on Amazon. Both Gillian Anderson and Rufus Sewell give me the major ick.

I'm looking forward to seeing the Amazon version as well.

That's said, i thought Rufus Sewell played Andrew really well on the Netflix version, Scoop.

TitusMoan · 05/04/2024 21:31

Billie Piper is great in this!

Anyone know when the Amazon one is being released?

I've enjoyed everything that Ruth Wilson has been in

@SheriffofRottingham I saw Frost/Nixon on stage! Mesmerising. Michael Sheen was phenomenal. And Frank Langhella was an incredible Nixon.

Ruth Wilson in one of our finest actors, I've loved everything I've seen her in too, @Salemforcuddles .

@TitusMoan I've not been able to find a release date for the Amazon production. I'd have thought they'd let the Netflix version have its day before releasing theirs.

I agree with this. I saw a clip of the show last night and thought I was listening to Thatcher.

vincettenoir · 05/04/2024 22:40

I really enjoyed this. I thought it was really absorbing from start to finish.

idontlikealdi · 05/04/2024 23:21

I think Billie Piper is fabulous in this
