Anyone watching this?
I've just put it on.

I liked it and I thought RS was very good. I didn't watch the original interview as I find PA repulsive to look at so I was fascinated to see how Matlis managed to get him to show his true self and how he lacked absolutely any self awareness.

2dogsandabudgie · 06/04/2024 11:18

See this annoys me when production companies do this. I know that dramatic licence is used to pull in viewing figures but what happens is fact then becomes muddled with fiction.

Why? Does PA not have baths in real life?

TheShellBeach · 06/04/2024 12:49

Actually it'll be very interesting to compare Scoop with the Amazon version.

Well I thought it was excellent and that Rufus Sewell played Andrew very well.

It was grim seeing him from the back when he emerged from the bath though.

Probably better than seeing him from the front.

He wore a false bottom I believe.

Soowoo · 06/04/2024 13:16

I’ve just watched this - and I thought it was really good. I’ve never seen the real interview (been living under a rock I guess!) and it was amazing to me to see that Prince Andrew did not care about the girls who were used as sexual objects at all. It was like he did not think they were real, whole people with feelings. Even if he did not have sexual relations with them himself it looks like his moral compass was warped and he was completely deluded. The fact that no one in the palace could see this is actually really worrying.

Did he also wear a load of false double chins and a false belly?

I’d say so. I recently watched him in last years Netflix tv series The Diplomat (with Keri Russell from The Americans) and Rufus is a very good looking man.

I could have done without the arse shot though.

Propertylover · 06/04/2024 15:23

I think RS had a lot of make up and prosthetics to get the look right.

letitlego · 06/04/2024 15:43

There was a documentary on recently about how they got the story

Is this going to be interesting / different to that?

MorgansNewHairCut · 06/04/2024 16:48

you see how staggered the BBC were that the palace made no attempt to intervene/pressure them to pull it or edit it, and how absolutely unaware everyone at the palace seemed about how dreadful his performance was. It reminded me how totally removed from the reality of the situation he was- he simply lacked any awareness of the issues at play, the mood that existed about it, the victims of Epstein. He was really quite bizarre. Had no ability to 'read the room' at all.

It just shows how out of touch they all are. How could none of them realise how bad his comments in the interview were? The whole family/institution has had its day, the sooner they all fuck off the better.

Maybe not many, you know, with him not sweating and all. 🤮

Someone with some sense in the RF (Princess Royal) probably told the Queen how bad it actually was.
It wasn't long before Andrew had everything removed from him.
And he had to pay millions to Virginia Roberts.

@Soowoo
I hope you don't mind me asking you some questions, because I don't know anyone who didn't watch the original interview.

I watched the original interview, and there were so many outrageous things he said, or didn't say. You picked up on the fact he didn't care about the girls, which came across loud and clear in the original interview.

I was just wondering, did it also come across to you how out of touch and ridiculous his responses were?

For example, when Matlis asks why he stayed with Epstein's house in New York, after he had been convicted, Andrew replied that it was a "convenient" place to stay.
When I watched this in the originally, it came across as such bullshit - in the whole of New York Andrew couldn't find anywhere else, to stay.
Did that come across in Scoop when you watched it?

No, the public reaction is what forced them into removing everything from him. The interview was rightly received badly, and there was really no choice. There knew the public would never accept him back.

He paid millions because he was probably scared there was even more that could come out. Sick bastard. I can’t stand Anne either, they all need to fuck off. They’re irrelevant, outdated and out of touch.

JSMill · 06/04/2024 17:40

@minou123 yes they did include his statement that it was a convenient place to stay. He really did not think he had done anything wrong, did he?

I think it did come across that some of his responses were bizarre - they showed the moment when he said staying at Epstein’s was “convenient” and we got a glimpse of the BBC crew’s astonished, but restrained, reactions to this. They also showed him claiming he hadn’t been able to sweat and giving the Pizza Express excuse - both of which seem ridiculous. I was abroad when the interview aired, and then I was just very busy and absorbed with other matters which is why I never watched it, but I have read about it in the press etc over the years so it wasn’t all new to me by any means.

Chickenrunning · 06/04/2024 20:14

I haven’t watched Scoop but it was the ‘simple shooting party’ in the original which made my jaw hit the floor with a ‘how can he not realise how this will sound’ gasp.

Oh what channel/service was that on? Keen to watch it after watching Scoop

I thought Gillian Anderson was the weak link in this. She just used the same voice as she uses in The Crown and didn’t sound much like Emily in my opinion

Will be interested to see what Ruth Wilson’s portrayal is like

I think it was even worse than that! I googled it and found:

“No, it was a shooting weekend. Just a straightforward shooting weekend.”

Aquarius1234 · 06/04/2024 20:49

Enjoyed this great cast. The Teddy bears omg.
I hope the amazon series will be as good but I doubt it knowing amazon.

Aquarius1234 · 06/04/2024 21:17

I think we needed to see the few creepy scenes with PA and a shame we didn't see anymore.
I wanted to see what else he got up to but I guess that would all be guess work.
Unless they found an old friend he fell out with that could give info.
Emily with the dog all the time seemed weird but must have happened as too random.
Michael Sheen looks more cheesy dressed as him in a OTT cringe way.

I was just curious if Scoop had captured the absolute shit show of his responses.

“No, it was a shooting weekend. Just a straightforward shooting weekend.”

Oh god, it was filling awful, wasn't it?

For me, it wasn't just the words he used, but how he said it.

When he said "No, it was a shooting weekend. Just a straightforward shooting weekend", it was the absolute look of contempt and patronising way he said it that got me riled up.
He was incredulous that Matlis didn't know the difference between a birthday party and a straightforward shooting party.

He completely missed the point of the question.
Matlis was querying why he brought Maxwell and Epstein into the circle of the Royal family by inviting them to intimate gatherings at Sandringham, Buck House etc.
Whether it was a birthday party or shooting weekend was bloody irrelevant.

Oh, I'm getting wound up again.
