It seems to have gone the same way as their Sussex Royal site. I don't know much about social media or PR, but this all seems pretty odd and ineffectual.

no reason to think they are anything other than a happy-enough family unit.

Oh, you sweet summer child , . . .

I think that the reports of trouble for them have as much credibility as reports that the Wales have marital troubles. All invented bollocks.

I’m not sure I agree, I think Covid is a convenient excuse they used. People still worked but remotely. Everyone used teams or zoom . There was absolutely no reason for Covid to impact them. They could still have created content, interviewed etc. and the writers strike another one and it’s over 🤷🏻‍♀️

They got the Netflix deal in Sept 2020, so they must have been doing something, and wasn't Spotify about the same time?

But what I really meant was the in-person appearances at the major events that would have covered them in stardust and shown them hobnobbing with major household name players. Those were all called off, and it wasn't possible to re-create a dazzling entrance to that world.

It was bad luck to lose that launchpad

Yes @Abouttimeforanamechange apparently he complained bitterly that his brother had a nice big bedside lamp whereas he had only one from IKEA or something. I guess not dissimilar to the shocking revelation that he got “one less sausage” at breakfast. These were excerpts that were reported - I would never waste my time or money on such self indulgent nonsense.

Yes, boys with a 2 year age gap definitely need the same amount of calories on their plates......

I wonder if, now that his DC are a little older, he looks back at that and cringes?

I don't think he has that mechanism.
This is a person who lived in castles and palaces, had untold privileges and opportunities, money and status.
Then complains like he was brought up on a sink estate and had to skip surf for furniture.

@Theraininspainfalls - I've seen footage of her getting inbetween the winning polo team pictures. May have been in this thread actually, it amazes me how brazen she is at getting into the pictures - it's truly embarrassing and cringey 😬

IcedPurple · 07/04/2024 09:46

I think the arrival of Covid was unlucky for them. They lost all the momentum.

Yes and no. You're right in saying there was great interest in them at the time and they had tons of support. But it's obvious now that they had no plan at all and seemed to think simply being 'royal' was enough. So lockdown could have given them a chance to plan their strategy at a time when nothing was going on. Also, the streamers were flush with cash because nobody had anything to do other than watch Netflix, so that meant they scored lucrative deals they may not otherwise have got.

And the writers' strike did seem like another stroke of bad luck as it screwed progress on Miss Havisham (was that ever a go-er, or just SM kite-flying?) and Meet Me At The Lake. But it's over now, and no reason for their not to be signs of activity on either/both. And heaven knows, they need a Netflix success this year before the deal expires.

I don't see it happening. Producing a programme is hard work and they have none of the skills required. I reckon this 'Lake' thing will join the long list of 'might have beens' and the Netflix deal will be cancelled. I also heard vague talk of some sort of cooking programme to tie in with Riviera Orchard but I don't see that happening either.

Yes I remember that. It was just so absolutely self serving and actually very rude.

I think the lamp story was Harry's pathetic attempt at being 'relatable' in a 'See, it wasn't all tiaras and golden thrones, just 'cos I'm a princeling' type of way.

Re: the sofa. Another absolutely absurd thing for him/them to harp on about. That Cosmo article that someone else linked to stated his salary with the army (over £50k per year), the money he got annually from his mother's estate (£450k), the money he'd already inherited from his great-grandmother (several million), and he got a grace and favour cottage to live in - he wasn't paying rent at KP - so to say that he was so poor he couldn't afford a sofa and Meghan had to buy it is deeply insulting to anyone with half a brain cell.

It's possible. Any idiot can get a cooking show and you don't need any talent or cooking experience - just look at Brooklyn Beckham.

That's true.

But we've heard so many 'rumours' about this or that show over the past 4 years that I'm sceptical about this one. Also, while it might get curiosity views for the first episode, I can't see 'Cooking with Meghan' being a ratings success. Then again, these programmes are cheap so it wouldn't be a major risk for Netflix I suppose.

SidekickSylvia · 07/04/2024 10:05

I'm always surprised by the claim that the LQM left him the lion's share of her money. She had 12 great grandchildren, and if she favoured Harry because William would inherit more from his position, wouldn't it follow that all 10 of her other great children should inherit more, particularly Margaret's grandchildren.

Point of detail: both princes donated their military salaries to military charities.

Vespanest · 07/04/2024 10:06

The cooking show makes sense, it would tie to the charities she’s involved in where recent refugees share experiences through cooking food, I could see Meghan hosting and following instructions rather than cooking.

Mylovelygreendress · 07/04/2024 10:06

Anyone know what happened to the After Dinner speeches they were signed up to do ? Limonada ? 40x 40 ?

I am sceptical about this claim too.

As the future King's son Harry was always going to be very well provided for. Not as much as William, but more than all her other great grandchildren. Why is Harry more 'special' than Arthur Chatto or Beatrice York?

Would it not be Cooking with Meghan, The Duchess of Sussex??

Okay, well that rather suggests that he could manage very well without it! Which he could, because he was a millionaire.

OneHeartySnail · 07/04/2024 10:09

I could see a cooking show working, if Meghan would turn up regularly and do the work - as you say, maybe hosting it and learning from her guests. Highlighting different cultural traditions.

But it would take time to build up a brand, and in the meantime where is the big money?

She tried to get a cookery show when she arrived in the UK in the summer of 2016 to open up her career and personal life.
She was living with a chef in the US at the time.
An English agent, Jonathan Shalit, tried to get her a cookery show but her range was too limited, and presentation not good. (Source: Tom Bower/Revenge).

Yes, @Chupacabara - Cory Vitiello, who was her boyfriend at the time. She included recipes and cooking at that time on the Tig. They split up in the summer of 2016.
Neither Cory nor her first husband Trevor Engleson have ever betrayed her or sold details for money. Something she should consider if she ever reflects on her own behaviour (unlikely).

MaisieMacabe · 07/04/2024 10:19

Also, I saw a picture of H&M snuggling in a photobooth. Someone posted near identical pictures of her with other partners doing exactly the same.

The difference now is she would bring a 'name', the guests the cooking and knowledge.

I don't see any indication she would be willing to.put in the work, but if she was, it could work.

MaisieMacabe · 07/04/2024 10:24

Yeh, that's true, @OneHeartySnail
So even with the fame and the title it's still not working out.
