It seems to have gone the same way as their Sussex Royal site. I don't know much about social media or PR, but this all seems pretty odd and ineffectual.

I think the series Monica Galetti has made with first Giles Coren and now Robert Rinder is the kind of thing Meghan should be aiming for - visiting luxury resorts around the world to show how they work behind the scenes, but with a focus on those who are working hard to be sustainable/in harmony with the local population/community etc. It’s very much in line with her Tig content, so presumably something on which she’d come across as authentic. And it would have a lot of appeal based on the locations alone, without standing or falling on Meghan needing to be the main drawcard.

MaisieMacabe · 07/04/2024 10:31

I really liked those series, @Serenster .
They were interesting and well produced. The presenter has to be skilled in making it not about them, though and they need to be genuine to engage the viewer.

Just googled Cory Vitellio, he's a handsome chap. I'd have stuck with him!

Gosh. That is a very interesting observation.

Have a look at the picture of her and him canoodling in the picture dated May 2016. (Sorry, can't link). Look familiar?

I think the Maltese tourist board might beg to differ.

I think Covid is a convenient excuse they used. People still worked but remotely. Everyone used teams or zoom . There was absolutely no reason for Covid to impact them. They could still have created content, interviewed etc. and the writers strike another one and it’s over

When they flounced the immediate plan was to divest gullible bankers of their riches on the after dinner circuit. Henry managed that just once before lockdown albeit with a reported payday of £750K but if they'd gulled the credulous been booked regularly they'd have been building a brand and garnering the all important contacts.

I don't think creating content or doing the interviewing ever figured in the immediate plans but even if it had we now know they're too idle and clueless to have achieved it.

I just think the whole last 5 + years have been an almost total embarrassment for them, which they seem completely blind to

i think they know. They can’t not know. They’ve been called the biggest losers, fucking grifters, South Park did a whole episode on them, and dumped them, and as much as Netflix seems to be playing the game on appearing interested, I suspect they are also out bar the book/film. They are constantly derided for their actions. Kelly osbourne of all people called them a pair of tits. George clooney publicly distanced himself. They apparently wanted to utilise flamingo estate for the new website and the owners were not interested in working with them to the extent they got legal involved. They know about the bullying claims, the overwhelming bad pr. and of course Harry’s ridiculous and expensive legal battles. They spend each morning looking for any mentions of themselves on line.

but I think they blame everyone and everything else. Covid, writers strike, people not understanding, because they don’t change their behaviour. If they understood they would change. They have access and always have done to some of the best media brains there are, they simply don’t listen to them.

the latest embarrassment of launching the empty website brand and the archewell prize when William was doing the Diana awards, just that they are still trying to link to the royals and leverage the pr associated with that. Megan’s faux royal visits are toe curling. The awful omid scobie book which it looked like Megan was behind is dismaying.

So so many opportunities, wasted at every turn. I genuinely can’t understand how any one, can have been offered so many opportunities, have access to the best advise and support money can buy, and repeatedly ignore it and take the same misguided ill thought through actions repeatedly. For years.

everything they do ,I find myself thinking wtf. The website and the Diana awards being the latest one, but it’s every single time, going to see sick kids, dressed in delicate designer silk and taking a camera crew, what was she thinking past using those children for her own pr?

I think they know but they don’t think they are the problem. So they just keep messing up.

What dud George Clooney say/ do to distance himself, please? I missed it. I know he was a thoughful supporter early on, but I coulxn's see him.and Amal approving of what came later.

smilesy · 07/04/2024 11:56

Riviera Cottage But More Of A Mansion Actually

Surely you mean “American Riviera Orchard Cottage” 😆

CathyorClaire · 07/04/2024 11:58

And the writers' strike did seem like another stroke of bad luck as it screwed progress on Miss Havisham (was that ever a go-er, or just SM kite-flying?) and Meet Me At The Lake. But it's over now, and no reason for their not to be signs of activity on either/both.

I've read 'Meet Me At The Lake' or more accurately the least awful bits so probably about half 😆

I can't see what they've seen in it TBH. Complete dross IMO and I'm not surprised they're not rushing into production.

He was asked about it and he said there are no dinners, well there was one dinner, but there are no dinners, there is nothing,

not word for word but it was strongly in that vein, a journo asked him if they were friends and that they had dinners together, he basically distanced himself.

How long would that have lasted before Harry ran out of things to talk about, or what he was saying had become out of date or irrelevant?

JJathome · 07/04/2024 12:14

OneHeartySnail · 07/04/2024 10:09

I could see a cooking show working, if Meghan would turn up regularly and do the work - as you say, maybe hosting it and learning from her guests. Highlighting different cultural traditions.

But it would take time to build up a brand, and in the meantime where is the big money?

I think there is many many credible chefs they’d use for that concept. And it’s a very common concept, sat brunch type thing, hairy bikers etc I can’t see why they’d want Megan to do something like this.

i think the cooking show, is like miss haversham or Dior. Something they want and pitched, but far from something solid. I do think they need to stop leaking stuff

it’s always about the publicity for them, not actually doing it and delivering, I mean look at the signing for lemonada. They just want to say they are doing stuff, not actually do it.

CathyorClaire · 07/04/2024 12:17

It wouldn't. He played the Diana card at that event and that was basically his one selling point at the time.

Just shows the level of delusion he was operating under.

Well also, and I hate to state the bleeding obvious here, but Monica Galletti is a chef who worked under Michel Roux in La Gavroche, a 2* Michelin restaurant, and then for many years she was a host on Master Chef. And Giles Coren, whether you agree with his opinions or not, is a restaurant critic for The Times. They know their stuff. They have actual careers in food. And Meghan? She used to have a blog that posted recipes, but the blog was shut down seven years ago. It's not really the same level of experience, is it.

RandomQues · 07/04/2024 12:28

Here is Meghan Markle’s lifestyle blog video from Toronto. This is really what she likes to do I’d say. (It reminds me a bit of the Charlie perfume ad from the 1970s) 😆

On The Town with Meghan Markle

One day with this great actress

Serenster · 07/04/2024 12:41

That video is interesting, because you see a lot of the “photogenic actress who gives great still photos” (which Meghan absolutely is) in the flesh, so to speak. It involves a lot of completely intentional posing while doing things, which comes across as completely fake (because…it is). I can only imagine how she came across doing that to the photographers and journalists who followed her day in and day out as a working royal

She does to me as well, but that might be just cultural differences. There are obviously plenty of supporters, so there are plenty of people who don't find her inauthentic.

Anyway, I doubt she would put in the sustained work, and it is all hypothetical
