I just wanted to share some thoughts I've had since talking to some RL friends last night. I'm a Republican, and didn't actually post much on any of the threads on here. But I did read them, laugh at the ones I found funny and speculated a little IRL. I enjoy robust mental health, but I feel a little sad and down today about the news. And a little guilty. It occurs to me that it might be a real source of distress to some other people. Not the big media ghouls, of course, they have no shame and will just move on to the next thing without looking back, but for those of us who bought in to the whole farrago and maybe posted things we now wish we hadn't. So remember, the media often manipulates us, the establishment often lies to us and it's actually a good thing not to immediately take what we're told at face value. Don't beat yourself up and find someone to talk to if you feel really bad about it. Take care of yourselves.

And talking about close family and friends, how many can Kate and William truly trust to have kept this news, the pressure the people in the know would have been under to not say anything, to let their emotions show in front of other people. Can you imagine Kate’s mum not being able to offload to her close friends if she needed to.

OMG that photo in the car, that people used as an excuse to write the most foul things about their entire family.

Oh, just try and take some responsibility for your own actions, why don't you.

The two aren’t incompatible though.
They could have chosen to reply to conspiracy theory in a different way.

I mean the king has cancer. We haven’t heard any conspiracy theory around it. It’s clear. No one is hounding him demanding news, updates or wondering what is actually happening.
They could have done something very similar.

Instead they released doggy pictures and threw Kate under the bus by making her responsible of the photoshopping.

I really feel for the PoW. But they’ve thrown her under the bus with all their PR imo. And they didn’t handle well the idea they ‘wanted to keep their privacy’ right from the start. When conspiracy theories started, they should have stepped up and clarify in a way that sounded realistic. Instead, they now have people questioning everything, incl the video. 🤷‍♀️🤷‍♀️

@AliceOlive it's pretty clear that the photo in the car led to the MD photo being disbelieved, because Catherine looked too much like her usual lovely self, and not the wreck some of the ghouls were hoping she's look like. It seems pretty obvious that it was a photo taken when it was said it was taken with a bit of adjustment, but all representation was in fundamentals real.

Mymilkshakebringsallthepapstomycar · 23/03/2024 12:26

The King doesn't have an enemy with an army of bots seeking to undermine him before he gets to the throne. That experience is reserved for William. This entire conspiracy exercise has been designed to undermine William's future reign.

To be fair. Only people who are disapprove of the RF were fuelling the wild conspiracy theories.
Those who like the RF accepted she was out of the picture until Easter.

VillageOnSmile · 23/03/2024 12:28

@Serenster you mean he did his job whilst his father and wife are ill.

Like most people do?

I dint know of anyone who stopped working because their dad and/or wife got cancer. Yes maybe taking half a day or a day to take their wife to hospital for chemo. But no one takes 2~ 3 months off because the dh loosing their job would create even more of a crisis.

SuziQuinto · 23/03/2024 12:30

Excellent points about William, @Serenster .
The answer is no.
People who laid into him over that memorial and accused him of the worst kind of behaviour will not apologise.

Not coincidentally, there's been a lot in the press about the state of Britain's defence forces, and a couple of days ago there was a report that they couldn't withstand an invasion. Undermining the monarchy ties in very neatly with the undermining of the UK as a credible military and political force.

Now who'd be interested in doing that, I wonder?

And that would not surprise me one bit.

Which is why handle this particular crisis well was so important.

It wasn't his job he missed. It was the Greek family's memorial service he missed.
He's been visible doing other stuff.
Maybe he has had time with his family? Maybe he's had meetings with his father about what could happen if he suddenly had to assume the role of head of state?. Maybe he's had meetings with Councillors of State?
Maybe folks should stop being so quick to judge.

I’m not saying no one does.
And PW did for a while too.

potato57 · 23/03/2024 12:42

I do wonder whether their hand was forced to come out with the news in an attempt to control the situation and they weren't actually planning to reveal it at all.

Given that all this has come out suddenly in a rush right after it's been reported that people at her clinic were sneaking through her medical records.

They must have known the story could be sold then. Obviously they're saying it's because of Easter/telling the children etc but I think that's another move to make it look controlled.

I do feel sorry for her though that she's had to be all preened up and record an autocue video under deep emotional self control for millions of people who have been judging her when she probably feels like shit and just wants to be left in peace.

Who's they? you telling us that the press and PR of KP is now actively trying to undermine Kate, for whatever reason?

Some people just can't give the conspiracies up, can they. Ever heard of 'never attribute to conspiracy that which can be adequately explained by cock-up'?

I think you should send your CV to KP and ask for the role of head of PR, explaining how you'd have done this so much better.

Mymilkshakebringsallthepapstomycar · 23/03/2024 12:47

@MrsDanversGlidesAgain and @Jotunn I wonder if the now regretful think about how they have been useful idiots for the Russian state and Putin. I wonder if the republicans really understand what they want to happen to this country in dismantling structures that are far from perfect, but that have functioned and protected us through many domestic and world crises.

Thanks mum.

I think it’s horrible that KP released a totally composite picture of her family and lied. They should not have done that. Stick to the story. Be back at Easter.
All of this could have been avoided if the pictures had never been released.

Heads should roll at KP for not being able to hold the line.

Twitter will alway twit and SM will feed off any scraps out there. But KP have done HRH Kate dirty. Not the public.

Most faced with a cancer diagnosis at 42 with a young family would probably not make the best choices, give them a break 🤷‍♀️

SuziQuinto · 23/03/2024 12:52

There's not that level of critical thinking, @Mymilkshakebringsallthepapstomycar .
You just slag off the next head of state, make unfounded, vile, offensive rumours about him and hope that the mud will stick.
Stupid.
Nobody who ever moans "where's William" might think - maybe he's dealing with the possibility of being head of state sooner than he thought, so he's learning constitutional practices. Just because they don't see something, they think it doesn't happen.
These are the people who slag off teachers for finishing at 4pm because that's all they see.

Mymilkshakebringsallthepapstomycar · 23/03/2024 12:52

How many more times does it need to be said? William and Catherine are the principals of Kensington Palace. Their comms people act on their instructions. Like a good boss, Catherine shouldered the "blame" (even for the SM manufactured furore over the picture) because she is not a shit who is going to throw a member of staff under the bus and into career free fall. She's also not going to make her husband take the blame for something he didn't do, because she's an actual strong and independently minded female, not just one who likes to talk about it.
