I just wanted to share some thoughts I've had since talking to some RL friends last night. I'm a Republican, and didn't actually post much on any of the threads on here. But I did read them, laugh at the ones I found funny and speculated a little IRL. I enjoy robust mental health, but I feel a little sad and down today about the news. And a little guilty. It occurs to me that it might be a real source of distress to some other people. Not the big media ghouls, of course, they have no shame and will just move on to the next thing without looking back, but for those of us who bought in to the whole farrago and maybe posted things we now wish we hadn't. So remember, the media often manipulates us, the establishment often lies to us and it's actually a good thing not to immediately take what we're told at face value. Don't beat yourself up and find someone to talk to if you feel really bad about it. Take care of yourselves.

@areyoutheregod Ah so changing the goal posts now, your original post stated that is was misogyny on here but now it's in general

In general on here, everywhere, just generally the criticism of her. Not goalpost shifting, I would have thought what I said was easily understood. Fair enough if you don't agree, but it's my opinion since watching this hate train directed at her. Blaming her for their decision to leave was the most obvious and widespread. The fact she is talked about here more than Harry is another, many posters calling her talentless, she should pick a lane, she can't be more than one thing, discounting her career and money she made before him, comments like 'she just liked the lifestyle' which aren't directed at the male married-in members. Thats another point, none of the men who marry in are ever subject to any of the terrible gossip and nastiness directed at the women. None. Not one. Thats misogyny.

Salemforcuddles · 25/03/2024 12:25

I understand what misogyny is thanks that's why I was interested in you pointing it out on here as I thought I had missed it, apparently not

Mymilkshakebringsallthepapstomycar · 25/03/2024 12:33

I've seen plenty of nasty (and libelous) stuff written about Mike Tyndall, by some very prominent posters on this board. Which other men who have married into the RF deserve criticism?

Please don't confuse people laughing at Harry's todger and Meghan's word salad, with a hostile state controlled social media attack on Catherine and William, aided and abetted by useful SM idiots and opportunistic republicans.

But if that’s the case, British tabloid media and similar media from ‘friendly’ countries also ‘aided and abetted.’ It wasn’t just social media.

No doubt there was some unfriendly foreign interference but I think it’s been overstated in the above.

In my opinion the destabilization theory would support the need for more effective communications and PR.

But it also needs people to apply more nuanced thinking. What was the intention behind the Mother’s Day photo, for example? It was photoshopped to present someone their best light. How is that an issue, or any different from what most other people who post on social media do? And now that the video from the Princess has been seen, there are still those who refuse to accept that it is genuine. It is simply not possible for “effective comms” to persuade either those who do not want to believe, or those who are acting in bad faith to desist from continuing to perpetuate wild theories. People need to apply critical thinking and go back to the intent behind something. Not just jump up and down and say”it was modified so it was a lie”. It doesn’t matter how good KP’s comms are, those who are invested in finding a conspiracy will do so if people have a common sense bi pass

AliceOlive · 25/03/2024 12:36

No better example of true misogyny than a recently hospitalized woman being ripped to shreds for a photo posted on Mother’s Day of her with her children.

Salemforcuddles · 25/03/2024 12:36

Exactly

Zyq · 25/03/2024 12:37

I suspect that ultimately KP will turn out to have played this rather well. They knew they were on solid ground in putting first the welfare of a woman with cancer and her three young children, and that therefore all the conspiracy theorists were going to look both silly and distasteful when they announced the facts at a time that was best for the family. So next time someone comes up with these fantasies it will be easy enough to remind everyone what total tits they made of themselves last time around.

Consider the number of people who must have known, medical staff, palace staff, assorted hangers on - the more people who know a secret the less likely it is to stay such.

So I'll stick with monumentally nuts as my appraisal of KPs efforts, and like it or not, it has damaged the RFs reputation in the eyes of many.

They have my sympathies of course, but they need to get rid of the lackeys who make these stupid decisions

And yet it did stay a secret, which kind of nullifies your entire premise.

Have you ever seen the definition “but” to mean bullshit?

So replace every “but” with “everything I just said is bullshit and now I’m going to say what I really mean.

I don't think it any way compares to what the women have directed at them. Mike Tindall, I don't know, I have never seen much comment on him and I assume you're talking about people commenting on his drink drive convictions and I'm a celeb stint? I don't think he's received anywhere near what all the women do, mostly the ones who marry in but the York sisters have had lots too. Imagine if Kate had drink drive convictions, how do you think the media and Sm response would be in comparison? Or Meghan? Or Fergie? They're all scrutinised in a very different way.

Mymilkshakebringsallthepapstomycar · 25/03/2024 12:56

Actually it's Whitehall saying this, not me overstating the source of the campaign, @Wickedlywearynamechange . The British tabloids were pretty measured in themselves to begin with. The campaign against Catherine built up to boiling point in the American tabloids like Page 6 and via SM and the usual suspects with an agenda of hatred against her and William. It was added to by the WME stable of stars bandwagoning with the nasty and insiduous "Where's Kate" posts and Colbert's frankly astonishing monologue fueling the affair rumour. And the Spanish speaking press seemed to have a lot of false things to say about her health that ended up in the mix also.

That crescendo of noise was picked up on and reported on by the British tabloids, but they didn't start it. The British media don't have the same freedom to start rumours that the foreign press and SM has, but they are more than happy to report on it when it happens elsewhere. And yes, everything overboiled with the Mothers' Day picture, but the reason for that was precisely because of what had built up beforehand, the press and media agencies more than willing to play along for the clicks; and a lot of useful idiots in the UK losing their minds and joining in, eg the likes of Piers Morgan and Owen Jones, who finally found something in common.

Oh come on, you're deliberately rewriting the narrative there. It was not a simple mothers day photo and I would say 80% of comments I saw were pointing the blame at KP. You can't now dismiss that terrible decision to try and deceive everyone and fake a photo. You shouldn't want agencies to accept manipulated photos, regardless of who provides them or why.

she never said she edited that photo, just that she sometimes edits photos. Ultimately she was ill and William and KP were responsible, in most peoples eyes.

Well Catherine herself said she was behind it, so why do you disbelieve her? More misogyny for a woman who can take responsibility for her decisions and/or a chance to have a go at William and/or a chance to undermine the institution by criticising KP?

MyopicBunny · 25/03/2024 13:00

Some people are never going to agree on this. But if you think that prominent members of the royal family get to make their own decisions without first having to get the approval of KP then you are being deliberately disingenuous.

Maybe she was. Maybe she took the blame to take the heat off an employee. Who knows?

And does anyone outside a handful of internet obsessives really care?

Mymilkshakebringsallthepapstomycar · 25/03/2024 13:02

KP is William and Catherine. They are the principals. Their comms team work for them. The buck stops with them.

ArcaneWireless · 25/03/2024 13:02

I think some of the advice given here is neither asked for nor of any consequence.

I do like how some keep trying to give it though. Like their opinion is more important. Valid. Accurate.

Together with attributing words we have not said or the words we have said are twisted beyond all original intention.

Misogynistic in itself.

Like women have no autonomy over their thoughts and words. And it is becoming increasingly common on here.

Funny that.

It always gives me quite the waft of incel. Which would explain the yells of hate this and hate that. Own who you are. Don’t put words in the mouths of others.

Goshes, my goodnesses and the like do not hide it.
