That reminds me - I remember posting this list when someone set out a list of what they expected William to have been doing since the start of 2024 - and had posters immediately jump out and say in response that he was lazy, as an average CEO would manage this in 2 days.
Now we also know William was not only dealing with his father’s cancer diagnosis, but his partner of 20 years’ diagnosis as well, and a serious threat to the health of the mother of his young children (when he himself lost his mother at a young teenager)…I think his work ethic and his game face is exceptional. Plus he did all this while the whole world was speculating that he’s having an affair/is a wife beater/was involved in some unsavoury way with his second husband’s tragic suicide. I wonder if those posters will have the decency to admit that they were wrong to about him?
The current government is so dysfunctional that William actually does have an opportunity - without getting involved in politics - by leading by example and setting some kind of moral compass.
Good question. Let’s look at what William’s done int he last two and half months, shall we, bearing in mind that he also had to cancel various things because his wife was seriously well and his Dad was then diagnosed with cancer:
by highlighting environmental issues
He’s had two Earthshot engagements in the last week, including celebrating a nonplastic company getting a big supply contract for large event catering
conspicuously rejecting xenophobia / racist tropes
He made a statement about the conflict in Isreal/Palestine and met representatives of each community to talk about the importance of listening and building communication channels, and the rise in antisemitism.
by being ultra transparent with contract procurement
That’s one for his household and the Duchy of Cornwall, presumably, not William personally? At any rate, he advertised openly for a CEO last year, which helps with transparency - it’s not just an automatic appointment from the Cabinet office.
by highlighting links between the UK and Europe
He and Kate were supposed to be visiting Rome this month, but the trip was beacuse of Kate’s health
demonstrating a One Nation unionism that warmly embraces Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland
He was in Wrexham in Wales for St David’s Day (not this year, but he was, to our knowledge, last in Scotland in November last year to highlight organisations supporting rural communities)
by highlighting the importance of good school infrastructure
Education is highly politicised though! And what does good school infrastructure mean? He visited a school while in Wrexham, in any event.
by celebrating the NHS…
He gave a speech at a charity fundraiser for the Air Ambulance Service, which is a health charity. He’s also used the investitures he took part in to highlight those being given honours for their work int he NHS - eg the woman who recruits foreign nurses to work for NHS hospitals.
