I just wanted to share some thoughts I've had since talking to some RL friends last night. I'm a Republican, and didn't actually post much on any of the threads on here. But I did read them, laugh at the ones I found funny and speculated a little IRL. I enjoy robust mental health, but I feel a little sad and down today about the news. And a little guilty. It occurs to me that it might be a real source of distress to some other people. Not the big media ghouls, of course, they have no shame and will just move on to the next thing without looking back, but for those of us who bought in to the whole farrago and maybe posted things we now wish we hadn't. So remember, the media often manipulates us, the establishment often lies to us and it's actually a good thing not to immediately take what we're told at face value. Don't beat yourself up and find someone to talk to if you feel really bad about it. Take care of yourselves.

I think it was such a massive misstep to release the pictures and fed the frenzy.

Pictures? There was only one.

The metadata of the mothers day photo has been analysed. It was edited but there is no evidence it was completely fake. A news agency issued a kill notice saying the photo has been digitally manipulated but did not claim it was fake or take the trouble to say how they thought it had been digitally altered. Plenty of other RF photos have obviously been edited but no kill notice has been issued.

The frenzy already existed and a news agency thought they could make money by feeding it and making the kill notice the story and drive more traffic to their site.

That you were so easily manipulated is no ones fault but your own.

We were told Kate would have surgery and be recovering until after Easter. We have now been updated with new information. You are not entitled to daily updates on the health of the RF. You were not lied to just because your expectations (not sure why you think it's legitimate to have any in this situation) wrt to updates were not met.

That moral high ground must feel pretty good.....

I'm sure I'm not alone in finding the obsessive nature of some peoples interest actually quite frightening and sadly this incident will change nothing, the same type of insane conspiracy theories will crop up the next time a member of the RF asks for privacy and then doesn't issue updates at the rate the obsessives expect them.

SuziQuinto · 23/03/2024 11:21

Oh there was plenty of frenzy on here - absolutely vile rumours and accusations, well before the picture.

I’m sure this poster is well aware.

Helpisso · 23/03/2024 11:39

Ok OP at least you have had the balls to come on here and apologise ,and yes I recognise your name from previous threads ! I really wouldn’t be worrying too much about the poor little souls who have woken up today feeling guilty for all the vile comments they have aimed at an extremely unwell lady.
I can remember quite a few of their names because their comments were so repulsive.
Anyway lesson learned and let’s just hope that POW hasn’t been looking on MN recently !

@Catsfrontbum you joined in the rumour mongering, alleging that the MD photo included KM's face from the Vogue shoot and then insisted the photo in the car was faked, so your "I just criticised the comms policy" doesn't really hold true

ApartFromAllThat · 23/03/2024 11:48

MrsSkylerWhite · 23/03/2024 09:33

Sorry but I disagree with you. I think that people who speculated ought to feel ashamed of themselves and learn from it.
It’s not about you, it’s about an unwell mum and her privacy who has been forced to speak publicly by a mob.

Absolutely. Bunch of ffffing freaks tearing bits out someone just out of hospital for a photoshopped photo.

And now it's all, "oh the media, or wait no it's KP, or wait no I still think it's the media, they've done us again, they've manipulated us in to being truly awful, we're actually nice decent people".

Well, no, sorry, you're not the latter. This reciprocal relationship will continue on because you love to feast on dirt. If the usual source didn't supply demand, by God you will find it elsewhere.
(It wasn't for their own private records that photographers were chasing after Lady Di was it?!)

MrsMamaMarshMops · 23/03/2024 11:50

because you love to feast on dirt

Sums it up nicely.

milveycrohn · 23/03/2024 11:53

@donteatthedaisies0
"Some might feel a bit bitter that they the royals get such prompt treatment, and the rest of us are waiting for phones to be answered and the waiting lists to go down ."
This clearly depends on the NHS Trust.
My DH recently diagnosed with cancer... from GP appointment, hospital referral, in-patient procedure and subsequent discharge, pathology results, and commencement of treatment has been fairly prompt. And this includes the Christmas break as well.
Currently undergoing chemotherapy

EsmaCannonball · 23/03/2024 11:54

The level of fuckwittery was astounding and people became so entrenched in their own fuckwittedness that, once the cancer diagnosis was revealed, their only option was to double-down on the fuckwittery. The latest tactic seems to be the claim that Kensington Palace PR drove people mad rather than mad fuckwits all over the internet drove each other mad and are still driving each other mad.

ArcaneWireless · 23/03/2024 11:56

Doubling down = twice the twat in my book.

crumblingschools · 23/03/2024 11:57

@drivinmecrazy when my DF had his cancer diagnosis I rarely talked about it to friends at the start as that made it real, and I just didn’t want to accept it. God knows what it would have been like if I had to cope with press/social media intrusion.

Matronic6 · 23/03/2024 11:58

Catsfrontbum · 23/03/2024 11:09

I think it’s a disgrace that the mishandling of released pics has led to this mess.

Thats it. i will still live my life though.

Sounds like someone trying to blame a photo for their own lack of common sense and critical thinking.

The speculation started before the mother's day photo. If she hadn't released a photo for mothers day there would have been theories on why from the same idiots. Anyone who engaged in it is moronic and needs to evaluate their own lives and what is lacking in them.

crumblingschools · 23/03/2024 12:02

Whilst going through the hell that is a cancer/major illness diagnosis and treatment their Mother’s Day photo probably brought them joy, even if photoshopped. Now after all media/ghouls hype what will it bring them?

MrsDanversGlidesAgain · 23/03/2024 12:02

I'm being treated for cancer (for the second time) and I have had and am having wonderful care from the Nhs. I would not have got better from going private although I live in an area with an outstanding cancer hospital

Ditto - and mine's the first and I hope last, but you never know. My speed of diagnosis and treatment has been exemplary - treatment didn't start until they were 100% sure what the condition is, and since then the follow up has been nothing less than excellent. Helps that I live near a London teaching hospital, of course.

Serenster · 23/03/2024 12:03

There were at least three 1000 page threads just about William not turning up for King Constantine’s memorial service, which was on February 27. Mother’s Day was 10 March. Those threads were full of lurid speculation.

Laying into William for being lazy and workshy.

crumblingschools · 23/03/2024 12:10

@Serenster and if William missed that service because Kate had got the cancer diagnosis that day, what do posters who are full of criticism of KP and their PR think they should have said on that day to explain his non attendance? The truth, before Kate and William had had a chance to process the diagnosis, before they had shared it with family, close friends, their young children.

Serenster · 23/03/2024 12:12

SuziQuinto · 23/03/2024 12:04

Laying into William for being lazy and workshy.

That reminds me - I remember posting this list when someone set out a list of what they expected William to have been doing since the start of 2024 - and had posters immediately jump out and say in response that he was lazy, as an average CEO would manage this in 2 days.

Now we also know William was not only dealing with his father’s cancer diagnosis, but his partner of 20 years’ diagnosis as well, and a serious threat to the health of the mother of his young children (when he himself lost his mother at a young teenager)…I think his work ethic and his game face is exceptional. Plus he did all this while the whole world was speculating that he’s having an affair/is a wife beater/was involved in some unsavoury way with his second husband’s tragic suicide. I wonder if those posters will have the decency to admit that they were wrong to about him?

The current government is so dysfunctional that William actually does have an opportunity - without getting involved in politics - by leading by example and setting some kind of moral compass.

Good question. Let’s look at what William’s done int he last two and half months, shall we, bearing in mind that he also had to cancel various things because his wife was seriously well and his Dad was then diagnosed with cancer:

by highlighting environmental issues
He’s had two Earthshot engagements in the last week, including celebrating a nonplastic company getting a big supply contract for large event catering

conspicuously rejecting xenophobia / racist tropes
He made a statement about the conflict in Isreal/Palestine and met representatives of each community to talk about the importance of listening and building communication channels, and the rise in antisemitism.

by being ultra transparent with contract procurement
That’s one for his household and the Duchy of Cornwall, presumably, not William personally? At any rate, he advertised openly for a CEO last year, which helps with transparency - it’s not just an automatic appointment from the Cabinet office.

by highlighting links between the UK and Europe
He and Kate were supposed to be visiting Rome this month, but the trip was beacuse of Kate’s health

demonstrating a One Nation unionism that warmly embraces Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland
He was in Wrexham in Wales for St David’s Day (not this year, but he was, to our knowledge, last in Scotland in November last year to highlight organisations supporting rural communities)

by highlighting the importance of good school infrastructure
Education is highly politicised though! And what does good school infrastructure mean? He visited a school while in Wrexham, in any event.

by celebrating the NHS…
He gave a speech at a charity fundraiser for the Air Ambulance Service, which is a health charity. He’s also used the investitures he took part in to highlight those being given honours for their work int he NHS - eg the woman who recruits foreign nurses to work for NHS hospitals.

crumblingschools · 23/03/2024 12:14

And talking about close family and friends, how many can Kate and William truly trust to have kept this news, the pressure the people in the know would have been under to not say anything, to let their emotions show in front of other people. Can you imagine Kate’s mum not being able to offload to her close friends if she needed to.

That service was a private, family memorial, not a public event. It was absolutely nobody's business whether William attended or not. It was just used as one more excuse to kick the man. That's at the heart of much of this. Kicking William again and again and seeking to destabilise the future line of the monarchy through his blameless wife's illness.

Serenster · 23/03/2024 12:17

Did you see that Nicola Sturgeon’s sister posted on Facebook yesterday that she was shocked to hear that Kate had cancer a good 15 minutes before the news was officially announced at 6pm? Nicola would have been told in advance as she’s still a Privy Councillor.

They would have had to keep the circle so tight to avoid it being leaked. That includes in their own office too as well as their friendship circle.

This should be posted on every single shitty thread that has gone after William and used his wife's illness as the excuse to do so.

Not sure I'd expect anything less than shenanigans from those quarters, tbh.

No, they weren't. You're (presumably) a grown up. Take some personal responsibility for what you posted that you now regret.

crumblingschools · 23/03/2024 12:21

My DF when he was undergoing treatment for cancer had great camaraderie with other patients when he went in for his day treatment, got to know and joked with the nurses. Helped him get through those days, more than we could. Kate probably won’t have this. People were trying to share her private medical notes FGS.
