I just wanted to share some thoughts I've had since talking to some RL friends last night. I'm a Republican, and didn't actually post much on any of the threads on here. But I did read them, laugh at the ones I found funny and speculated a little IRL. I enjoy robust mental health, but I feel a little sad and down today about the news. And a little guilty. It occurs to me that it might be a real source of distress to some other people. Not the big media ghouls, of course, they have no shame and will just move on to the next thing without looking back, but for those of us who bought in to the whole farrago and maybe posted things we now wish we hadn't. So remember, the media often manipulates us, the establishment often lies to us and it's actually a good thing not to immediately take what we're told at face value. Don't beat yourself up and find someone to talk to if you feel really bad about it. Take care of yourselves.

I wouldn't go that far.

Well I should sincerely hope not, looking at what happened when he was in power and how he ended up in July 1794.

I might have more luck with the washing machine.

It goes round and round as well.

Tumble drier. Round and round and lots of hot air.

Grammar 🚨 I wish I had your worries @upinaballoon

If you are planning to bring an end to a 1,200 year old monarchy, you’re probably going to need grammar and punctuation.

-edited because I personally have no such plans and can afford to be more casual.

Getting a tad childish

You will be outnumbered eventually. The RF are not as popular as they once were. When the queen and Philip died that was it. People are fed up of this obsession with the royals. You have to understand that change is coming whether you like it or not.

This kinda spooked me a bit. The whole ‘change is coming whether you like it or not’😟
What do you know that we don’t?

Oh just now, after more than a month of this?

I’m just being silly actually. Like Blake.

Then the comment about AI replacing the royal family…

I resolved to go to more live events.

I reckon there's some AI on this latest bit of the board. I'd hate to think that humans actually talk the way some posters do. It's like trying to get sense out of a bot.

AliceOlive · 24/03/2024 14:59

I thought maybe someone was implying the point was to waste our time chatting here. It may very well be, but that’s not really going as planned.

If you are referring to me that's what grieve does to people. The doctors were on strike when my mum died of cancer last year. How do you want me to feel?

I’m really heartened to see the massive support Catherine has been receiving globally since her announcement and so many standing up to the celebrities who made themselves look utter fools to the world. I can’t think of any other person on the planet who would receive so much support from the general public and world leaders, it just goes to show how popular the Princess of Wales is worldwide, I think this whole fiasco will have made the institution stronger, not only because of the online tsunami she has been through but that she is now even more relatable, more human, more one of us, people really warm to that and once Catherine returns fit and well to the world stage we will see the outpouring of support again. The House of Windsor is in safe hands.

JSMill · 24/03/2024 15:21

I think she showed herself to be an incredibly strong woman on Friday. Her speech was perfect and she delivered it eloquently.

AliceOlive · 24/03/2024 15:23

It made me feel better about the state of the world, actually. We’ve had such a leadership vacuum both on a macro and micro level.

I'm really struggling to understand how if you're a celeb and know millions will be reading and following you, how it can EVER be a good look to post what some of them did; or got their PR to post. Just out of basic humanity.

It shows, as well, that the people who did this are massively outnumbered by the people who don't have a voice but who when they get the chance, show what they really think. You'd think these celebs would have learned by now that just because they live in a little bubble of groupthink, doesn't mean that the big wide world out there agrees with them. And yet they have to keep learning it, apparently.

The Royal Family are well protected and cared for. it's us who should be worried if we ever get ill.

And yet you wish them a speedy recovery and hope they get well, yadda yadda.

You know. Pointing out they are human beings and that. (We just about realised) Then practically telling us the revolution is coming.

As for us being worried if we should ever get ill and the RF being well protected?

My parents, sibling and nephew have all been chapping at death’s door over recently. All are still here because of their treatment and the care they still receive.

All your statement says to me is that the RF are as susceptible to illness as the rest of us, despite the care they have available.

Me? All I’m worried about is my eyes wearing out from reading streams of unadulterated pish.

It's like all bullying, @MrsDanversGlidesAgain .
People don't think, they join in.
It's the in crowd! It'll make me popular!

DM had a Kenwood Chefette that DF bought her in the mid 60s. Still kicking myself I chucked that out when I sorted her stuff.

My mam’s one (chefette) gets hauled out of the press whenever I’m baking (not often).

It is a solid workhorse.

This is an excellent point, and I would also say this about the loud and vocal republicans who seem to think they are the majority because they shout through megaphones both physically and figuratively, when in fact when push comes to shove, the people who don’t have a voice or don’t like to raise their heads above the parapet have shown through recent days that the support is there, they may not shout it from the rooftops but the quiet majority show their hand when needed.

I have no doubt the cùrrent constitutional framework will change over time. Nothing lasts forever, and rational conversations about the strengths and weaknesses of different arrangements are always valid.

Spite and conspiracy theories won't bring about a better framework, however.
