I just wanted to share some thoughts I've had since talking to some RL friends last night. I'm a Republican, and didn't actually post much on any of the threads on here. But I did read them, laugh at the ones I found funny and speculated a little IRL. I enjoy robust mental health, but I feel a little sad and down today about the news. And a little guilty. It occurs to me that it might be a real source of distress to some other people. Not the big media ghouls, of course, they have no shame and will just move on to the next thing without looking back, but for those of us who bought in to the whole farrago and maybe posted things we now wish we hadn't. So remember, the media often manipulates us, the establishment often lies to us and it's actually a good thing not to immediately take what we're told at face value. Don't beat yourself up and find someone to talk to if you feel really bad about it. Take care of yourselves.

Do you still really think, now in the context of knowing that she has been undergoing chemo, that she was sitting around fannying around on photoshop?

hope you never have to learn this via personal experience but yes, people with cancer have good days and bad days.

Sometimes they can garden, sometimes they can’t even eat. Sometimes they go to Joni Mitchell concerts even when they feel like utter and can barely walk. Sometimes they ask you to stay after every one else leaves their dinner party, “don’t go yet Alice, just stay a little while longer.”

So yeah, editing a photo isn’t beyond the imagination of how someone might spend their time when they are ill.

Mymilkshakebringsallthepapstomycar · 23/03/2024 15:41

Yes. You can have chemo, sit at a computer, cook a meal, go for a walk, go to the shops, go on a car journey, go for a coffee, meet a friend, take your kids to school etc etc. Having chemo doesn't stop you doing these things, and doing these things doesn't stop you from being seriously ill.

Geebray · 23/03/2024 15:43

You can also film a heartfelt statement about your illness.

So yeah, a bit of Photoshop on the sofa is well within the bounds of possibility.

But that doesn't feed your conspiracy, does it?

Canthave2manycats · 23/03/2024 15:43

Catsfrontbum · 23/03/2024 11:15

I think it was such a massive misstep to release the pictures and fed the frenzy.

Just drop it, will you?

You should change username to 'dogwithabone'!!!

Mymilkshakebringsallthepapstomycar · 23/03/2024 15:44

And why are so many posters absolutely insistent that Catherine is incapable of taking the blame for her own decision making process as principal of Kensington Palace and this is yet another conspiracy? You sound like misogynists. Does it shatter the myth so many hold dear that she's a brainless Stepford Wife or something? That she actually is a really decent boss with integrity who is not going to throw her staff under the bus or her husband for that matter?

Yes, why yes it does.

queenofarles · 23/03/2024 15:46

The media is not to blame for the Vile bullies on here and on other social media platforms like X, who are desperately trying to backtrack on all the allegations they’ve been spewing for over a month.

Polishedshoesalways · 23/03/2024 15:53

I felt choked and really upset - I have personal experience of this journey, we have lost very close family members to cancer at a young age. I can’t imagine now how it must feel to be Catherine and William under such intense media spotlight with such a diagnosis.

However KP should have followed the BP strategy. Allow time to digest the diagnosis of course but to step ahead of the news by taking control far earlier than they did. The inevitable speculation was a disaster. It was not acceptable to try and deceive the public as they did, especially as Catherine is actually very ill. To me, the reason so many posted was because we sensed something was really wrong ( rightly as it turned out sadly) . The public care about them.

I hope the threads stop now, and they are given peace and space to come to terms with the terrible news, I feel so dreadfully sad for them, and wish both the king and Catherine a smooth and speedy recovery. I won’t be posting again out of respect.

ArcaneWireless · 23/03/2024 15:41

You absolutely have that right.

I should know. Apparently.

That Maya Angelou quote is spot on in this context, isn't it?

ArcaneWireless · 23/03/2024 15:56

If the public cared about them, then they wouldn’t have fuelled the conspiracy theories.

ArcaneWireless · 23/03/2024 15:58

Just because there is a gap in the conversation, it doesn’t necessarily mean it will be better off filled with shite.

SuziQuinto · 23/03/2024 16:01

@ArcaneWireless - you haven't answered that genuine question - are you King Charles?!

Canthave2manycats · 23/03/2024 16:02

VillageOnSmile · 23/03/2024 12:24

The two aren’t incompatible though.
They could have chosen to reply to conspiracy theory in a different way.

I mean the king has cancer. We haven’t heard any conspiracy theory around it. It’s clear. No one is hounding him demanding news, updates or wondering what is actually happening.
They could have done something very similar.

Instead they released doggy pictures and threw Kate under the bus by making her responsible of the photoshopping.

I really feel for the PoW. But they’ve thrown her under the bus with all their PR imo. And they didn’t handle well the idea they ‘wanted to keep their privacy’ right from the start. When conspiracy theories started, they should have stepped up and clarify in a way that sounded realistic. Instead, they now have people questioning everything, incl the video. 🤷‍♀️🤷‍♀️

Bollocks.

The King didn't know he had cancer. Initially he was having a prostate procedure and it was discovered by chance. He's the Head of State; his absence had to be explained! Kate isn't HoS. The public were told that she had had planned abdominal surgery, which she did. She didn't know until later that there were cancerous cells. WTF should she have to rush to tell anyone? It was nobody's business. She was already 'off'. Perfectly good reason. Plus she has 3 young children to consider. The King doesn't.

I reckon for all of you xxxx's shooting your mouths off about KP, the Comms team probably weren't told about the cancer right away.

There was no way KP could have handled this that the ghouls and conspiracy theorists wouldn't have had a field day. Same as with Covid!!!

I cannot believe the ridiculousness of some people who live and breathe amongst us.

I’m not quite sure I’m following you there.

I saw a woman who is unwell. One that looked like she ready to cry and struggled through the video.

And you are telling us that that woman is well enough to decide, wo her dh or her PR team (or even against them?), to direct a full in PR campaign that included photoshopped photos, look alike people at the farm and someone in the car that was supposed to be her?

That no one could possibly have taken note of the way BP and before him the Queen had handled such situation, by staying ahead of the game to avoid fuelling conspiracies.
That it’s ok to make her and only her responsible for the fiasco that has created a situation where people will always doubt any news coming from them (incl and in particular newsrooms around the world etc…).

So you are saying that this is supporting the PoW when is very clearly unwell?

Wow, if that is supporting her, I’m wondering how it would like if you weren’t.

VillageOnSmile · 23/03/2024 12:28

@Serenster you mean he did his job whilst his father and wife are ill.

Like most people do?

I dint know of anyone who stopped working because their dad and/or wife got cancer. Yes maybe taking half a day or a day to take their wife to hospital for chemo. But no one takes 2~ 3 months off because the dh loosing their job would create even more of a crisis.

God you're full of empathy.... actually something else, but never mind!!

"Most people" don't have to put a game face on, meet members of the public and dignitaries, and have cameras shoved in their gobs while they smile and shake hands!!

How incredibly difficult it must have been!!

Salemforcuddles · 23/03/2024 15:39

It's all about values isn't it? Some peoples values are that a persons health issues are private and we should all respect that.

Others peoples values are, we own you, I have a right to know, let's tear a woman down, let's make up horrific lies about someone, let's watch with glee as they make a mistake.

It is a weird concept to most ordinary people but there are loads of sick fucks out there - all that matters to them are the hits. It's like a drug to them. The minute they lose attention they have to search for their next fix and it has to be bigger than the one before.

That's more nonsense.

The photo will be consigned to history. All of these things are a nine-day wonder. The world rolls on.

Some people will doubt.

The ones who struggle to comprehend why their first priority was making sure their family had processed the news before the public. For once.

Everything else will have paled into insignificance.

Canthave2manycats · 23/03/2024 16:11

eise · 23/03/2024 13:24

That's the point, others don't have a choice - most people don't.

That's not Kate's fault, and is utterly irrelevant.

queenofarles · 23/03/2024 16:12

To me, the reason so many posted was because we sensed something was really wrong. The public care about them.
we all felt something was wrong , and expressed our concern but that didn’t stop people from making up the most ludicrous stories it’s BBL, Facelift, affair , divorce, eating disorder, mental breakdown , murder , substance abuse.
to me that’s not concern , it’s people true colours coming up to the surface, the exact same people who were saying Meghan was bullied out of the RF
were Happily engaging and fueling These rumours .

If the public cared about them, then they wouldn’t have fuelled the conspiracy theories.

As it turned out Catherine was extremely unwell. It was not a simple operation with a return at Easter as we were told.
It is even worse than most of the conspiracy theories.

I hope people back off and leave them in peace now: they know the truth. At the very least. Having cancer when you have young children is terrifying.

I don't think some people here have a scooby how devastating a cancer diagnosis is! There will have been so many family members to speak to and friends for starters, not something you do in a matter of minutes!! They have no idea how fucking heartbreakingly sad and devastating it is!

Some people have a complete empathy bypass!! I don't GAF how KP handled it. It's done. End of. One bloody miserable photo. Get a life people!

That is called the outcome of an information vacuum, it is well documented in other disasters such as airlines going missing. People generally can not bear uncertainty.
