Even now there are vile posters wallowing in the Catherine news. Please don’t give them an outlet.

OP posts:
InWalksBarberalla · 22/03/2024 22:53

Would Kate really be upset if she came on mumsnet- most posts are expressing sympathy for her, laying into other posters for speculating in the recent past and complaining about all the posts. She might wish for people to be kinder to each other but that boat has long sailed

ICrunchCrispsNotNumbers · 22/03/2024 23:34

There should be just one thread in the royal family section. The rest are just regugertating the same things over and over.

HollyKnight · 22/03/2024 23:58

How is this thread any different? This isn't a private message you've sent to MNHQ. You've created a thread that encourages people to continue to discuss the latest news, while deluding yourself that you are better than the creators of other threads encouraging people to discuss the latest news.

A mother with three young children and a husband is tragically diagnosed with cancer.

It could easily be any of the posters on MN so can we just leave it there, sympathise if you wish but reflect that it could easily have been you.

Kate herself has released this news to the public. It also has the significant advantage of being both informed and true, not conjecture.

I think the issue is the numerous posts by individuals trying to get there first... clambering .one post only is enough.

The Royals are part funded by public money

I'm on state pension so I'm part funded by public money. Want to hear about my cancer?

No? why's that, then?

martellotower · 23/03/2024 08:35

@MrsDanversGlidesAgain but MNers do want to hear about your cancer. And to compare notes and offer support . There are long running threads in General Health.
People are interested in others who share circumstances similar to their own.
The POW is in the public eye so that has different implications and challenges but at least she has wealth and a professional team around her to help manage disclosure and privacy.
And yes, cancer affects the wealthy but it's impact on those who are not financially secure is greater.

Those threads are there if people choose to post on them, anonymously.

The PoW has been hounded into disclosing her condition which she almost certainly would prefer to keep confidential.

You do see there a difference?

Because you’re not in the richest family in Europe by dint of having magic blood, @MrsDanversGlidesAgain

That’s hilarious - and very, very well put!

Bravo for cutting through the fog so incisively.

Edited to add that I won’t ask about your cancer because that’s PRIVATE ( ahem!) and up to you what you want to share, but I wish you the very best.

Is that another way of saying the public aren’t jealous and resentful of her?

Yeah, I did get that it's salacious picking apart of a woman's life under the guise of 'but we pay for them, we're entitled to know!!'

Fair point.

The PoW has been hounded into disclosing her condition.
I wonder about the hounding. I don't buy the notion that she is in the thrall of SM , she will surely have learnt to deflect this and distance herself from the impact. What I do suspect is that she has been put under pressure to reveal more than she would wish by those who want the image of the RF protected.

it would have been possible to release a statement to the effect that the POW continues to recover and will return to normal duties in due course. It wouldn't have stopped the speculation but would have protected her privacy. Which is most important , and to who ?

Thanks, doing well. Had my last checkup a week ago and condition has stabilised so chemo meds are doing their job.

Mrsdanvers will be on BBC news tonight with a recorded videos in order to make sure you know exactly what is going on with her. She’s only sorry that the process of discovering and absorbing her condition meant this was not able to be conveyed to you sooner.
See how inhumane the demand really is?

I can only imagine the mental fortitude that broadcast took and to not break down. Not only telling the world, but that they now have to tell their children. I kept mine on a 'strictly need to know' basis (especially at work) because I couldn't face the questions and the prying and the 'ooh, this worked for my mate, have you tried this?'

LittleGlowingOblong · 23/03/2024 09:07

My only point was that your analogy seemed rather moronic.

I’ve never sought to know about the POW’s cancer. My own mother died of bladder cancer and I know very well how awful that was.

CrushingOnRubies · 23/03/2024 09:08

Another example of where I think there should just be one official mumset thread which is started by a member of the mumsnet staff and is closely monitored but it means that most recent isn't clogged up with just one topic

Uricon2 · 23/03/2024 09:09

It's interesting (if unsurprising) to see on this and other threads some posters turning on those who have been saying Kate is ill, stop with the affair/DV baseless speculation, give her a break, they may be royal but they're still human. It seems abundantly clear that they were trying to manage a very difficult situation, perhaps a bit cack handedly at times, but with no ill intent and now the rumour mongers can't justify themselves (or get rid of the AS function) so go on the attack.

I don't care and I'm not gloating. It is sad news and I feel terribly sorry for all of them, actually especially William, given his history and the immense weight that must be on him at the moment. Nothing to add to that really other than good wishes I'm not deluded enough to think they will see and the hope of an improved atmosphere on these boards.

It’s SM, it’s the press. When they weren’t at the Easter service there would have been reams of stories about why, what’s wrong, the RF aren’t large enough to survive etc. And then the kids go back to school, still no Kate ad infinitum.
