I think anyone saying "erm..hang on a sec, isn't this a bit odd?" isn't necessarily a tinfoiled-headed nutter. They're possibly just an average person finding the situation a bit... unusual.

Yeah, totally normal. Nothing at all bonkers about supposing the royals have kidnapped or done away with Kate and have set up an elaborate body-double hoax to hoodwink us all. And that the newspapers and the BBC are in cahoots with these shadowy forces. I can’t think of anything more routine and everyday than that.

Well, there's a whole void between my example of "hang on a minute, that's bit odd" and your kidnapping and body doubles, but I guess that's MN.

After spooks, and the tv show called the unit, any number of situations are possible

The never explain rule will never work in today’s society. They need to rethink their strategy which is grotesquely out of date.

if we consider now every person that carries a phone is now a potential photographer and reporter - and when no real or verified sightings are made for months on end people will wonder what is going on, human curiosity and concern if nothing else.

Never explain now has a ring of contempt. It’s just not going to work.

martellotower · 20/03/2024 06:56

I wonder if the publishing of the video and the lack of confirmation from KP is some sort of compromise.
The PR team at KP see the need to demonstrate that Kate is well and recovering but don't want to backtrack on original strategy . And William is being stubborn and not wishing to publicly go against the original statement of retirement until after Easter.

I agree. And If they want their privacy, they can have it and they can disappear into obscurity. They can't have it all ways.

Franker · 20/03/2024 12:13

I can't quite get by the fact that the future king and queen, at the height of fevered speculation, did a bit of shopping in a busy farm shop, and only one person took one video clip.

A pp argued that locals might not have been so fast on the phones, but there's always tourists in that shop (local to my own folks), and the possibility of glimpsing a royal is a bit of a thing. If that was Kate, did she look so different that people genuinely didn't recognise her?

FloreatEtona · 20/03/2024 15:57

I've seen famous people shopping in Waitrose and it didn't cross my mind to get my phone out and start filming them.

Me too. I was in my local Waitrose a few months ago and saw Billy Connolly who is pretty much royalty to most Glaswegians. He does not dress conventionally and there was no mistaking who the elderly gent in tie-dye dungarees and pigtails was. Everyone recognised him. Everyone also respected his privacy to get his shopping with his daughter.

Admittedly the royals and the ridiculous hype over the "disappearance" of Kate is headline news and a randomer shopping in Waitrose isn't. But "film them" isn't the immediate response for many people.

I think there will be an update around Easter weekend, in line with what they've said so far.

And I think it'll be in the immediate run up to Easter. Because if they haven't done something before Easter Monday - which is April Fools Day - well, the lunacy now will seem like the tame phase......

They said she would return to engagements not update at Easter. I am expecting as a bare minimum to see her at the Easter service as normal. Or before given she - according to some - is skipping along with bags of shopping at farm shops looking around 26 years old!!

Actually they said that based on the current medical advice she was not expected to return to public duties until after Easter.

I am still really unclear why it affects you so greatly - given your professed concern for her well-being.

Returning to public engagements at Easter is what was said.

Rosiiee · 20/03/2024 18:05

Do they do a church service on Easter Sunday? I suppose she’ll most likely be attending as that’s in line with return to duties by Easter. I’ll be surprised if she isn’t esp following all the drama. Surely they wouldn’t want to fuel more conspiracies.

Rosiiee · 20/03/2024 18:07

I hope that’s the case! Put a stop to all the drama.

mardylookingfrump · 20/03/2024 18:10

Cannot wait for the Easter Sunday pap walk church appearance. It’s like the internet’s Christmas!

Your article doesn’t contain official quotes, just sources and ‘pals’.

wordler · 20/03/2024 18:16

The only OFFICIAL statement about her possible return has said after Easter - not at Easter. Everyone else in those articles is just speculating.

Here's the official statement - there's been no change since this:

Newspapers are clearly shit stirring in order to pressurise her to appear so their Easter issues will sell out. Funny that.

FloreatEtona · 20/03/2024 20:49

It says after Easter.

Severalwhippets · 20/03/2024 20:58

But you said Kate was at the farm shop looking ‘healthy, happy and relaxed’ of course she can sit in a church for half an hour! She was skipping and carrying bags and looked so young and well….
So yes absolutely expect to see her at Easter-

WhatsTheUseOfWorrying · 20/03/2024 21:05

FloreatEtona · 20/03/2024 20:49

It says after Easter.

Ah, but if you rearrange the letters in ‘after Easter’ it says ‘see fart rate’.

Clearly a coded message to listen out for distress signals sent by Kate breaking wind in morse code. I bet if there’d been sound on that video we could have heard “Help me, I’ve been kidnapped by the Windsors“ parped out.

See, the conspiracy theories aren’t so crazy after all.

Quizine · 20/03/2024 21:07

Christmas is after Easter.

Gooseysgirl · 20/03/2024 21:28

I think she'll appear at the Easter church gathering as it's not a 'public duty' per se. Then herself and Wills will do the usual disappearing act until the kids go back to school after the Easter hols.
