Spanish press reporting Kate was extremely ill

I don’t know how credible this is because I saw it on Twitter…

But apparently the media in Spain have reported that Catherine’s surgery was not actually planned, did not go smoothly and she was actually very sick/possibly in a coma for a period of time. And there has been a press blackout in the UK.

Could there be any truth in this? I’m struggling to see WHY something like that would be ‘hidden’ anyway 🤔

I'm no royalist at all but what makes me snigger are the comments on royal threads from posters crying 'leave her alone!' 'Is there something in the water?' 'Who cares?'

Just scroll on by you daft things.

ChVrches · 13/03/2024 11:05

@CaveMum let me get this right? You are spending your time googling on a condition that someone on here has speculated on?

mardylookingfrump · 13/03/2024 11:08

The race to the bottom posts chastising Kate for taking time off after surgery – as if with her money and privilege they wouldn’t do the same – remind me the competitive childbirth threads: there’s always someone who had an unanaesthetised EMCS of twins in the back of a Honda on the M25 during a Christmas Eve snowstorm but still cooked a roast for the in laws the next day.

If I had Kate’s money and had had to have an emergency face transplant abdominal divorce coma surgery, you wouldn’t see me til I was high-definition-ready either. Charles was already old and gouty-fingered pre-illness, and he’s blood royalty, he can show his face whatever he looks like: Kate’s value is her image, and she’s expendable. Of course she isn’t going to waddle into view in a hospital gown, leaning on the IV stand for support.

CaveMum · 13/03/2024 11:14

@ChVrches it was me that initially said I thought it most likely she had prolapse surgery.

My second post was backing up my reasoning with evidence when another poster questioned the time frame.

Finally, a thread about Kate!

I wish I could add emoji reactions to these threads. This made me chuckle!

Then again, here I am reading yet another thread so maybe I should shu da fuh cup.

You have evidence that this is the most likely surgery?

Well...we were all told in a press release early on to respect privacy and not speculate to

Protect the Princesses young children

But people seem to conveniently forget that in their need to be nosy.

Ah, yes of course!

Ahhh , finally I see what this is all about!
Revenge apparently!
Revenge against Kate for Meghans supporters!

I do apologise. I didn't realise the prolapse was your suggestion. I admit I sometimes feel as if I am going around in circles on MN.

WhatAreThey · 13/03/2024 11:16

Ah, yes of course!

Why are you now attempting to drag me into an argument about Meghan?

This is a horrible thread as it is. Let's not make it worse.

Please don't quote or tag me.

As someone quoted from Twitter on another Kate thread:

”do i think every one of the theories about kate middleton are batshit insane and the people who thought of them need to be examined? yes

have i absorbed every single one of them like a thirsty worm in the desert? absolutely”

WhatAreThey · 13/03/2024 11:19

William and Kate use bots to drive conversations about them and shape perception of the UK public. The BM of course have an unwritten contract with them. The Spanish and American media much less restrained by this.

worm in need of a drink over here 🙋

CaveMum · 13/03/2024 11:20

@ChVrches no worries, I do the same often enough!

@SnakesAndArrows you know full well I meant evidence of my reasoning, not evidence of the surgery itself.

iwafs · 13/03/2024 11:22

Poor poor woman
Whatever has happened to her, it's very unpleasant and difficult.
That should be enough for people.
Some vultures would only be satisfied with a surgical video, grey's anatomy style with commentary

Sparetoes · 13/03/2024 11:23

I object to people trying to shut down questioning, actually.

Yes, her health absolutely is her business and should stay that way, but they released the picture. They caused all this and it is absolutely right the public (and press) should be concerned about untruths being put out as news.

Gowlett · 13/03/2024 11:24

Bowel, prolapse, eating disorder, breakdown. Divorce…
We don’t actually know. Strange sport, this speculation.

There's been all sorts of ludicrous stories made up and posted all over Twitter, that's why.

My Spanish isn't great but from what I can understand, that article is just pure speculation about what condition Kate might have. So she might have Crohn's, in which case it might be very serious. No inside information and nothing which hasn't been 'reported' elsewhere. As I say, just uninformed speculation, little different from what you might find right here on Mumsnet.

Maybe someone with a better command of Spanish can correct me on this?

vaporrub · 13/03/2024 10:10

I’m not sure me ‘respecting her privacy’ is going to make any difference considering she’s been all over the newspapers, news websites, trending number 1 on Twitter, all over Facebook TikTok and social media, as well as real life conversations. All off the back of their decision to release that dodgy now infamous photograph that has caused all of this.

All off the back of their decision to release that dodgy now infamous photograph that has caused all of this.

No, this ridiculous media and social media pile on is just an excuse to hound Kate because she had the audacity to want to keep her operation private, it was all building up to this point, if it hadn’t been the photoshopped picture it would have been something else to beat her round the head with, this onslaught has been gathering momentum for weeks, the photo was to try and appease the ghouls and look where that got her poor woman.

BeaRF75 · 13/03/2024 11:27

The thing is, conspiracy theories fly because (some) people enjoy gossip and the truth just isn't sufficiently interesting. So "woman has surgery and needs time to recover" is too boring.
Remember all the Diana theories? The truth was, she died because she was in a car with a drunk driver and she wasn't wearing a seatbelt. Too boring.

Sorry, I may have replied to the wrong post.

This was intended as a response to the El Pais article.

The conspiracy theories have only taken off the the extent we've seen in the last couple of days because they put out the faked photo. Of course people are going to speculate when they know they've been lied to. Why would you want to be part of a population that doesn't question public figures lying?

I have a huge sympathy for Kate, and her health issues should be private, but this whole situation has been created by spectacular mishandling. Don't blame a public who rightly want to know why/what they're being lied to about. They should, it's important that they do.

SleepingStandingUp · 13/03/2024 11:31

It's seems reasonable if she was that poorly that they wouldn't have given the children explicit details / would have tried to protect them from the truth.

It seems reasonable that they therefore didn't want it being the talk of the playground which it would have been if the headlines were "Kate in Coma", "Will Will loose his future Queen?". "Future to repeat itself as royal children grow up without a Mum?" "Is Rose set to become our next Queen?" "Will Kate get a state funeral" and so on and so forth.

Therefore it seems reasonable to give the family the privacy they NEED to protect their PRIMARY AGED CHILDREN
