Spanish press reporting Kate was extremely ill

I don’t know how credible this is because I saw it on Twitter…

But apparently the media in Spain have reported that Catherine’s surgery was not actually planned, did not go smoothly and she was actually very sick/possibly in a coma for a period of time. And there has been a press blackout in the UK.

Could there be any truth in this? I’m struggling to see WHY something like that would be ‘hidden’ anyway 🤔

Her time off seems a bit tone deaf

You have no idea what the procedure was or why she's off for several months. Her medical team do, and presumably this is on their advice.

Cop on to yourself.

MrsDanversGlidesAgain · 13/03/2024 10:24

Could there be any truth in this?

No. It's fiction, like all the European press shit about the royals.

Sundaygettingreadyfortheweek · 13/03/2024 10:25

I thought the palace said at the beginning said she went for a small procedure but it turned out she needs a larger operation than expected.

Samcro · 13/03/2024 10:26

fabio12 · 13/03/2024 09:48

She had an operation and we were all told she would need to recover. I really don't know why some people are hounding her to be everywhere after this. Leave her alone!

this

🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

The absolute IRONY of this post. Talk about lacking in self awareness.

Freakinfraser · 13/03/2024 10:28

Old news op. Debunked as well and from the literal gutter press gossip site for Spain.

Keep up.

Lots of people endure uterine repair surgery and hysterectomy. They don’t go into hiding for 3 months. A good friend of mine had a uterine repair and she was back at work within a fortnight. Kate’s jobs are turning up somewhere staying a short time then leaving again. There’s no heavy lifting, or eight hours on her feet.

Her time off seems a bit tone deaf.

That's a bit "race to the bottom" though, isn't it? It would be great if women weren't expected to be back at work two weeks after major surgery. If I could have afforded to take four months off after having an ovarian cyst removed I definitely would have. In an ideal world this might draw attention to the fact that rest following surgery is essential and it's an opportunity that everyone should be given.

I don't really have skin in this game, being neither a royalist nor a republican, but I don't think anyone should be criticised for prioritising their physical and/or mental health.

CantDealwithChristmas · 13/03/2024 10:33

Yep, Pilar Eyre, the acclaimed Spanish broadcaster and author, has reported this and continues to stand by her story.

The German press has also reported it.

Have you ever heard of the Hitler diaries hoax? it proved fairly conclusively that because someone's acclaimed and distinguished and all the rest of it doesn't mean that they can't be comprehensively wrong or deluded, however convinced they are that they are right. In fact, the more acclaimed they are the more liable they are to stick to their story because they can't contemplate the hit to their reputation and self-image that being publicly proved wrong will be.

AnitaLoos · 13/03/2024 10:37

Palace never said it was a ‘small’ procedure. They said it was ‘planned’ surgery which is not at all the same.

But you don’t know what surgery she’s had.

I know two people who have had “planned abdominal surgery” for non-cancerous and non-gynaecological conditions.

One was in for 16 days, half of it in ICU and HDU, and was off sick at home for a further 5 months until the percutaneous drains were removed.

The other was in for 3 weeks, one week in ICU, followed by initial recuperation at home with a temporary stoma, then back in for a fortnight for stoma reversal, and was off sick for 8 months in total.

Would you suggest this was tone deaf?

Honestly, these threads are just ridiculous. I don’t give two hoots about the RF, but nobody deserves this amount of ghoulish speculation and hounding.

Pepsimaxedout · 13/03/2024 10:42

Fuck my life. Can a woman not bloody well have an operation/allegedly almost die alone in peace.

Why is it any bloody fuckers business what she does?!

”The German press” 😂😂😂😂

Please link to these “acclaimed” sources so we can all enjoy them.

Or is it just more bollocks you read on Sussex Squad Twitter accounts? 🤔

Yep that's true ofc

Just that PPs were asking who the journo was

Can't Mumsnet just kill these Kate threads. I thought they were all about protecting women rather than making them click bait. Kate is first a woman, mum. Not advertising fodder.

Very well said, except that MN presumably needs the clicks too?

I've seen warnings about "speculation not welcome" before now and even threads deleted for it, and yet still thread after thread on this is allowed to run, so the clicks thing seems the only realistic explanation

MrsDanversGlidesAgain · 13/03/2024 10:45

They don’t go into hiding for 3 months

She isn't 'in hiding.' She's recuperating, at home, with her husband and family.

FFS, is there something in the country's water supply the last few weeks?

JSMill · 13/03/2024 10:45

Omg why are MN allowing all these threads?

JSMill · 13/03/2024 10:46

Unfortunately it seems to be a global phenomenon too.

Are you for real? We don’t even know what the procedure was. What if there were complications? The only thing that’s tone deaf is your comment.

It’s tone deaf.

Nono22972 · 13/03/2024 10:51

Not blaming Charles at all but I think his transparency is also a huge reason as to why this Kate story got so big.

We don't know a lot about his cancer. We don't even know what type of cancer he has but he's kept the public updated. He shared photos, we saw him on engagements recently.

People probably thought that if Charles, who's battling cancer, is being visible, then why isn't Kate? Her condition might be worse than we realise.

Why do some people believe what they read in the European press when it suits them but go apeshit when something they don't like is mentioned? eg they are believing that Kate was in a coma or whatever but deny that the Duke and Duchess of Sussex faked the birth of a child? Both are equally ludicrous.

True

Since making the decision to release that photo they are absolutely everywhere. Even my DHs WhatsApp work chat group has been buzzing with dozens of memes of the Mother’s Day picture (and these are men who wouldn’t usually know or care what the royals are up to)

I rarely see a news story/public event having such a hold over 90% of the population.

@Nono22972 Charles is the King and if he is well enough between treatments to meet people and he feels like it then good for him. There is no need for the Princess of Wales to be out and about. Some people are bad enough referring to his "sausage fingers" as it is. Can you imagine what they would be like if they saw the Princess of Wales in recovery? She simply doesn't need to be on parade.

CaveMum · 13/03/2024 10:57

The NHS website says on prolapse surgery “You may need 6 to 12 weeks off work to recover, depending on the type of surgery you have.”

Regarding the time frame of not having the surgery before, a quick Google tells you that pelvic prolapse occurs must commonly many years after giving birth.
