Spanish press reporting Kate was extremely ill

vaporrub · 13/03/2024 09:45

I don’t know how credible this is because I saw it on Twitter…

But apparently the media in Spain have reported that Catherine’s surgery was not actually planned, did not go smoothly and she was actually very sick/possibly in a coma for a period of time. And there has been a press blackout in the UK.

Could there be any truth in this? I’m struggling to see WHY something like that would be ‘hidden’ anyway 🤔

Lots of people endure uterine repair surgery and hysterectomy. They don’t go into hiding for 3 months. A good friend of mine had a uterine repair and she was back at work within a fortnight. Kate’s jobs are turning up somewhere staying a short time then leaving again. There’s no heavy lifting, or eight hours on her feet.

Her time off seems a bit tone deaf.

This is my favourite comment, that she is being tone deaf for taking time off for her surgery, which may or may not be uterine repair, just because your mate was back at work in a fortnight after hers. Classic! 🤣🤣

I think this is unfair and harsh.

Your friend was back at work within a fortnight probably because she had to be. If she had freedom of choice, a job she didn't care about losing and a lot of money, she may very well have taken much longer.

In this context, Kate Middleton's "job" is much more than you describe. Firstly in her representative role of the monarchy and showcasing British fashion, she has to look great in stylish high fashion outfits, hair and makeup done and high heels. That's part of her "job" here.

Then she has to be "on" and "up beat" enough to feign interest in whatever crap people are talking about or showing her - knowing that one yawn, mental switch off or perceived rudeness due to pain or tiredness will be remembered by these people for the rest of their lives. That's probably hard enough to do repeatedly as it is even if you are feeling fine (I can't imagine the boredom of having to look round yet another school/hospital/place of good works and have 2 mins chat with lots of different people about nothing). If you are feeling ill or very tired or underpar that would be much harder.

There is usually quite a lot of standing around and walking and talking - again in high heels - difficult if you feel in pain or shitty or tired or ill. Plus there would be travel time probably a long journey in a car.

I get it's not a job working down a mine but as a role - where you are trying to make people's day and have to look great and under huge public scrutiny - it would be no picnic if you are in adominal pain post surgery.

Some people have no idea how recovery varies so much from one surgery to another. I had a lumpectomy for breast cancer and was off for 4 mnths. I had brilliant sick pay and a very supportive boss who wanted me to return when I was fully fit. They didn’t want me constantly cancelling patients at the last minute because I wasn’t up to working.
In different circumstances I may have had to return a lot sooner, but if given the opportunity why not take as long as you need to recover. The reason you only get to stay in hospital for a few days is because they need the bed. It has nothing to do with how well you have recovered. And most people’s convalescence is determined by their financial situation.

What ticks me off a bit is casual xenophobia here automatically assuming that Spanish press is rubbish and tabloids and calling all the claims “Spanish tabloid rags” 🙄

the first link is to a newspaper called El Pais, it is very respectable broadsheet, on par with Telegraph/Guardian.

So these assumptions are a bit insulting (but very British in their casual xenophobic attitude)

It also makes you wonder how many bothered to read the El Pais article.

You've already expressed your opinion on other threads and have been answered and explained to very articulately.
Why are you back again rehashing what you have already said?
Stirring the pot...
I said to you before, bog off.

I'm flattered that you have remembered me - wow, I'm famous on MN 😂

Now, down to business. I was responding to another poster, nothing to do with you. As for your "articulate" explanation - still waiting to hear it.

Incidentally, you appear to be under some delusion that you are the MN police. I will "bog off" if, and when, I want to - not when some random with a superiority complex tells me to.

Thank you for your interest. 😉 You can now return to your frothing.

I agree about the water supply!

However, I was just about to write a post to say that many of us who live overseas are shaking our heads in bafflement over all these threads and the conspiracy theories. The recent photo was mentioned for a couple of minutes part-way through news bulletins here and that's it. I have literally not heard one person discuss the situation. It's not a global phenomenon - and I live in a Commonwealth country.

I too live in a Commonwealth country and it's very big news here. Lots of huffing and puffing from Republicans and plenty of sympathy from the monarchists.

As well as the usual people who know somebody whose best friend had both their legs amputated and was running a marathon in six weeks etc......

Cornettoninja · 15/03/2024 08:33

I don’t think the story has been picked up that widely but the global conspiracy community have picked it up and ran like the wind. That and Macrons wife. They’ve just dropped quite widely.

It wasn't " my articulate explanation".

It was other posters who explained to you how the monarchy works in our country. This was due to your extremly patronising and rude post basically calling british people "Bonkers" and "Mad" etc.etc.

Rather than accepting the "explanation as to why the situation with KP and the RF is a big deal you poke your head up on another thread and rehash your post expecting a different response.

And no you're "not famous on MN" 😂Unfortunately your comments were so rude and misplaced that I remembered your username when I saw you again on another thread basically writing the same gumph with your slur at the british character and I called you out on it.

Have a nice day wherever you are in the commonwealth😏

You laugh, I guarantee your employer will want the same commitment from you. As the saying goes there is people lining up for your job.

I remember speaking to a cashier at the co-op she had the flu and I said to her she should be at home recovering. She said she couldn't because her boss will give her job to someone else. If you say that can't happen well it can they can push you out and I know plenty of people that has happened too. It's our RF they deserve a free pass while they sit on £83.6m that is paid to them from their British citizens who are struggling to make ends meet.

In other parts of the world they don't feel the same way about the RF as we do, not me obviously. Don't take offence understand why people think that way in the commonwealth or in America. I did try to explain it once but I lost the argument and posters started posting that Harry is racist bla bla bla.

A couple of points on this one.

  1. I don't have a boss as such, I own a small business, but yes my customers could go elsewhere.
  2. She isn't in the position to have to put her longterm health at risk because she can't afford to take the medically advised recovery time.
  3. Mumsnet hates martyrs, why do you need her to be one?
How do you feel about maternity leave btw?

"Mumsnet hates martyrs, why do you need her to be one?"

Martyr are you serious she's getting paid £83.6m to show up.

I weren't talking about customers it was about employees who are at risk of losing their job.

How do you feel about maternity leave do you have employees or are you a maverick?

Good insult you're obviously much more intelligent than me. Never heard anyone say there is a line of people waiting for your job. You obviously come from a privileged background like Kate.

I don't get your angst and why you're defending a RF who we pay for. Why shouldn't we know £83.6m is a lot of money.

I'll do the job for a straight £83m, and will be more than happy to tell the entire world about all of my aches and pains.

I'm prepared to show you my toenail if you like. It should be coming off soon, the way it's gone black and is hanging by one side.

Is that actually painful? Or does the new one grow underneath and kind of detach the nerves? ( thread derail but bet loads are interested)

No it isn't painful at all.

It happened once before when I was about 20( I'm now 70) - same toe (left big toe, if you are interested). The nail just thickens, goes yellow, then black and lifts from the outside edge. along the bottom and finally sort of grows out at the inner edge. There is a new nail starting to grow underneath from the cuticle end. It looks bliddy horrible, and it's a nuisance because it catches on tights etc, so I often have to wrap it in an Elastoplast, but it doesn't hurt at all. (it's really hard to cut though which is a nuisance, too, because when it's pulled it is unpleasant.)

That'll be £20m, please. Just transfer it to my bank account. Grin

Ah thank you. Not sure it was £20m worth of info but nonetheless something you don’t always get the chance to ask! I have been tempted though when you see people in sandals 🩴 or flip flops with a black nail. So now I know! Hope it drops off soon!

As you have been so polite about it, I'll reduce the fee to £17m as an introductory offer as I am an applicant to the monarchy. You can put in a good word for me.

I'm going to spend the money on elastoplasts as I go through quite a lot of them

Edit for typo

This.

They say that covid can have neuro impact - brain "fog", bad impact on cognitive function etc.

I'm beginning to think it's really widespread (and that the people who are worst affected just can't see it)
