The royal family

Do the Royal Family just think we are really really stupid?

Just that really. From Harry’s car chase to Prince Andrew being at a Pizza Express kid’s party.

And now we’re supposed to believe that the country’s biggest PR machine in the middle of a media storm just let Prince William take a casual Mothers Day pic on his iPhone, let the missus edit it and then post it to the world?

😒

Don't be ridiculous. You can't complain about having your appearance commented on when your job is essentially to look lovely. If she did things of more substance, like Anne, Sophie, Camilla, it wouldn't happen so much.

I’m being ridiculous?!

areyoutheregod · 14/03/2024 13:18

Like it or not, her fans have contributed to the pressure to be perfect by actually saying that she is, perfect looking, never put a foot wrong etc it's a constant narrative both by media and on social media. Nobody is perfect, so how about stop pretending that anyone is, or that they should be expected to be, and tearing apart other women who you think are not.

BenefitWaffle · 14/03/2024 13:19

Find me any threads on MN where people are praising Kate, where 99% of the comments are not about her looks? That is what the press focus on, because that is what those who read all about the royals want to read. They are not interested in the Royals as real people. They want to ooh and aaah over Kate's hair, her dress or her make up, or criticise those things. None of this is about reality.

WibblyWobblyJane · 14/03/2024 13:22

I am just not engaging with a poster who says any woman deserves whatever she gets because of how she looks and dresses.

It’s an incel argument.

Part of the reason people don't follow the King's (or the Queen's) appearance in the same way is they haven't made the way they look their main reason for being. Princess Anne doesn't have this trouble either and neither did QE2

They are also largely ignored by the Press, unless there is a scandal or a major event like the opening of Parliament.

It’s a toxic double edged sword, but The PoW gets press coverage when she meets the scouts or visits a nursery. It’s not even as though she wears particularly fashionable or shocking clothes.

None of the Royals can do much more than be looked at.

BenefitWaffle · 14/03/2024 13:23

@areyoutheregod I agree. I was once waiting in a queue and scrolled down active to a thread about a dress Kate was wearing. I would never normally comment on these threads. But I commented, it is fine, but not to my taste. I was astonished to be attacked and told that the dress was beautiful and that Catherine, not Kate, looked absolutely perfect as always.
These fans do not seem to realise they create an enormous pressure on Kate to be perfect. And in doing so they create an enormous pressure on her not to be a real person and instead be a living barbie doll. It is pretty twisted.

StickyWickets · 14/03/2024 13:23

People want to ooh and aaah over most women, just like the thread all about what Meghan wears which is popular one on this board

BenefitWaffle · 14/03/2024 13:26

@StickyWickets I totally disagree. Meghan's public role is to be the witch.

She's also another woman marrying into the royal family who has had to deal with misogyny in the press and public life and a lot of strangers weirdly obsessed with her appearance.

I think that's very unkind of you to say, I doubt Meghan would take that as a compliment!

BenefitWaffle · 14/03/2024 13:31

Meghan's public role is to be the witch. It is like fairytale. The beautiful princess perfect in every way represented by Kate, and the evil witch represented by Meghan.

Yesterday on twitter a hashtag istandwithcatherine was trending. There were lots of comments saying catherine was being bullied and that people were saying terrible things about her. Amongst these tweets in the same hashtag were lots of tweets saying Meghan faked her pregnancies. The irony seemed to escape those tweeting.

BenefitWaffle · 14/03/2024 13:33

@StickyWickets are you deliberately misunderstanding what I said?

It feels creepy. Not any particular thread but the sun total of the attachment and ownership people express over these women.

Exactly this.

WibblyWobblyJane · 14/03/2024 13:50

I wish people would stop bringing the nasty twitter stuff they read about these women here. Many people have said they never heard most of the worst parts except from people repeating it “out of concern”.

Giovannimilanese · 14/03/2024 13:51

areyoutheregod · 14/03/2024 13:45

Exactly this.

So is that why Meghan’s fans are trying to destroy Kate with such ferocity? To defend their own fairytale princess? What revolting hobbies some people have.

It certainly feels like that from the activity here.

BenefitWaffle · 14/03/2024 13:54

@Giovannimilanese That is part of the problem. You are dividing people up into Kate and Meghan fans out to destroy the other side. How does that help these real women in any way?

No, you just did that yourself with the fairy tale nonsense. It’s always been SS types pushing the comparisons along with the rags. And Harry and Meghan herself.

who is actually doing that here though? Kates fans did the same to Meghan, it is awful. But so are your comments on this thread.

I really don’t think Kate has the kind of following that Meghan has. That’s something posters claim any time Meghan is criticized for anything at all. But zero other evidence of it. Not seen anyone oohing and ahhing over Kate the way we see with Meghan.

WibblyWobblyJane · 14/03/2024 14:05

And funny enough, those same posters will typically agree with that statement when it suits them.

areyoutheregod · 14/03/2024 14:06

I disagree with you on that.

I agree with you.

Regardless of who they married, these women are not public property, they don't need their bodies picking apart and their appearance scrutinised at every opportunity. Dressing it up as so called concern doesn't make it any less creepy.

One thing I've found very interesting since paying a bit more attention to the RF is just how many people seem to have a weird emotional overinvestment in a bunch of strangers. It seems to go beyond an interest in public figures doing their constitutional roles.
