The royal family

Do the Royal Family just think we are really really stupid?

Just that really. From Harry’s car chase to Prince Andrew being at a Pizza Express kid’s party.

And now we’re supposed to believe that the country’s biggest PR machine in the middle of a media storm just let Prince William take a casual Mothers Day pic on his iPhone, let the missus edit it and then post it to the world?

😒

Ok so there's no back story then. Just didn't meet standards. No conspiracy.

I don't know, do you?

And strangely enough, normally I don’t really feel anything particularly for or against them any more than any other family I don’t know. But seeing a photo of a mum sitting with her innocent children who are all trying to cooperate and hideous arrows highlighting “ what’s wrong” with them in it has actually made me feel more defensive of them than not. So for some the drama that the haters are trying to generate will actually have the reverse effect.

I've been looking at the comments sections all over the media. The majority agree with you. The people whipping this up are the venal press, butt hurt photographers angry at the lack of access to the most sought after royal and the Sussex Squad. And perhaps a bunch of wishful thinking republicans too lazy to do anything to promote their cause beyond bullying a recovering woman, who has rarely put a foot wrong since she married into the institution as a commoner.

friendlycat · 13/03/2024 22:59

At the end of the day, loads of this is just nuts but really sad that today this is happening and how SM works.

She has obviously had some major surgery that she doesn’t want to share with the world. Can you blame her?

Ok the comms from their office has been awful and could have been handled much better. There’s so much linked into this. The late Queen would have never been this exposed with her comms it would have been handled better. The King is handling his comms better. Their comms are really bad. It’s all backfired big time.

The Mother’s Day photo was obviously a terrible mistake and it’s hard to believe how it even got there. But sometimes we all fuck up.

But the crux is a prominent and much respected member of the RF has had major surgery and there was a time line given as to her recovery period. It’s really heinous that she’s not being given that period of time to recover and recuperate from that.

The pressure on her must be immense. And it’s not fair. She’s behaved with grace, style and impeccably in her role and is an enormous asset to the monarchy.

She will be back in her own time. This photo needs to be put in the past now.

BenefitWaffle · 14/03/2024 01:15

The press are rightly angry about the photo. The agencies publish their standards, it is not a secret. They trusted the Palace. But the Palace sent them a photo which clearly breached the requirements and standards of the agencies in terms of photoshopping. Someone spotted the photo had many changes made that breached the agencies standards. Even then the agencies requested the original photo so they could check if the changes had indeed been made. The Palace refused to provide this.
So the agencies were forced to issue a kill notice. This was obviously going to lead to news articles about what happened.
CNN have publicly said that staff are now re-examining any past photos sent by the Palace to see whether there are any issues with those.
The press trusted the Palace. This was not some dodgy individual sending the agencies photos that they would carefully verify first. It was the Royal Family and they the agencies thought they could trust them.

This is not about a family photo. It is not about Kate. It is about the major press agencies no longer being able to trust what the Palace sends them. That is a very big deal. I know from comments that many people do not seem to understand why this is a big deal. But it will have rocked the media people involved.

WibblyWobblyJane · 14/03/2024 03:05

Oh, poor press! That’s the first time I’ve seen them made out to be the victims in all my born days.

WibblyWobblyJane · 14/03/2024 03:10

CathyorClaire · 13/03/2024 21:33

What do you really expect him to do though? Be out there lassooing Dartmoor ponies, installing bat houses, making jam? He is the heir to the throne

I'd quite like him to be demonstrating progress on two of his stated life's work missions. Solving homelessness and establishing peace in the Middle East but I expect he's too busy with climate change

The reason for your username has only just hit me! Brava, both Cathy and Claire.

(kindly meant, as I enjoy your posts.)

BemusedAmerican · 14/03/2024 03:33

Isn't he building houses on his Duchy in Cornwall for the homeless? Unlike my mayor, who is throwing people in the street after a month.

BemusedAmerican · 14/03/2024 04:01

William has been POW for a year. I've been moved to different sites over the years in my job as a middle manager. In each location I spent the first year observing, talking to staff, talking to customers. I tried to figure out the whys behind the work. After a while I started to make changes. Staff who didn't buy in left, had to replaced, and new people trained. It was particularly hard at sites whose prior manager had been there for years since the staff tended to more extreme - change now versus I'll never change. The last site took years to fix just for that reason. There were many times when I wanted to quit.
I've been assuming that William has been doing all this with Cornwall and the parts of Devon that he owns while living in Windsor. Doing it remotely must be very hard. He is having a really tough first year or so and the attacks on his family aren't helping. If he sticks it out, he may surprise us all in 2 or 3 years.

This is just wild. Of course they are not really angry and thinking they can’t trust them, that’s silly, it’s not an emotional thing, they are not an errant spouse. There is no emotion there. It’s a job. They deal with millions of photos every single day, and you’d need to be very foolish to not grasp why William and Kate took this very foolish decision,

it was a mistake. A bad decision, Kate is clearly very ill and William and her do not wish to reveal the extent or issue to the public. It’s a fairly unprecedented situation in someone so young and for something so serious to happen so suddenly and we all make shit decisions sometimes, often for the best of reasons. They obviously just wished to shut down speculation.

the agencies aren’t angry, or sitting thinking they can’t have trust, that’s an individualistic response not a corporate one.

Oh FGS, its not about the press being victims, it's about the press and therefore us, not being able to trust what we're told. That's damaging all round.

It could be a minor tweak, but no one knows that. That's the point.

You don't know anything about the health of the POW so stop giving your opinion as if it's fact, it's not.

Of course it's a corporate decision. The International press have to have trusted sources to protect their own reputations. The British press are the ones who are willing to compromise their integrity and participate in the gaslighting of the public in order to protect William with the ' leave poor Kate alone, she's just a silly little housewife who made a mistake like all us mums do'.

AutumnCrow · 14/03/2024 08:02

I had always imagined there would be competition and difference between news outlets, rather than there being a British press ‘Borg’, hence their completely different approaches to some very big topics in the UK at present.

Nothing is done on trust though, that’s not how it works, again this is individualistic. All photos are checked via sophisticated software. Simply as this one had a speed against it, as it went on social media at the same time, the agencies acted. If they had more time, it would have been checked as standard. It’s simply an emotionless process. The agencies made a mistake, they should have checked first.

They did check, asked for the original, which was refused, so then they issued the kill notice.

There’s the added factor that Kate is unwell whilst trying to placate a baying public demanding to see her NOW. She probably tried to put that photo together in a hurry whilst not thinking very clearly. Meanwhile Charles has cancer and someone that she and William knew well just committed suicide.

Thanks for your kind words. Half the time I think I'm talking to myself 😆

Independent fact checkers state the photo or image had been edited in a way that could mislead people, but not because it was shown out of context.

On the official Prince and Princess of Wales Instagram account the photo is still up but has a glaring red warning statement with a link to fact checkers.

Make of that what you wish but common sense would say this was far from simple touch ups. I'm not blaming Kate in any way for this as I find it suspicious that she would have had any part in releasing this image.

Does anyone really believe that she did that herself? An important picture, sending an important message (which it was, even if she shouldn't have needed to do it), to be sent out to the World's press and as she said, an amateur on sick leave, does it?

It was saved twice in adobe photoshop, there are two sets of edits, one sloppy, one done by someone expert. So I believe yes, she may have done one of those edits.

Wot? He has appointed a CEO to run the Duchy with the 200 staff involved in this based in seven offices. It is run for him
