Yet another picture agency has ‘killed’ the Mother’s Day photo due to credibility issues

KP PR are really not doing well with this!

Associated press
AFP
Reuters

And now PA media have all issued picture kill notifications to their editors and publishers regarding the Mother’s Day image due to how highly edited it was

Not going to help with the conspiracy theories

I don't think there is a huge conspiracy - just that she doesn't look great at the moment. I would place money that she is having to take steroids in recovery of her surgery and that this has (temporarily) altered her appearance. This is what the pap photo would suggest.

She (they) somewhat naively put out a heavily edited photo to combat this and to try to create a 'business as usual' image. My experience of working in 'highly regarded' institutions is that they are often fumbling around with the best of them and certainly not well oiled machines. There are just a lot of smoke and mirrors to make it appear otherwise.

I mean look at Amy Schumer - after a recent appearance all anyone could ask was 'what has she done to her face' and she felt she had to comment on it.

This would be x2000 for Kate and just awful. Everyone knows how self conscious a negative change in appearance can make you feel. Imagine having to deal with this knowing the entire world is asking where you are and when they will see you again.

Nah I’m good posting, thanks. Just like you.

But everyone, including Catherine herself, have said it’s edited. So what? She did a big edit? Probably for the reasons I stated. Why is that such a big deal to you?

the editing isn’t a big deal

the multiple kill notices is a very big deal

It’s a shame you don’t understand something so basic yet here we are

OP posts:
SpaceShanty · 11/03/2024 14:15

Why don’t they just release the raw, unedited version?

Because they don’t want to?

why is it a big deal? They are following their guidelines for photoshopped images. How is that a big deal?

SeeYouInMyDreams · 11/03/2024 14:18

@Falafelsandw1ch I’m not a public figure so it’s not comparable. Famous people get this sort of attention all the time. They can sometimes take legal action if they feel the stories are harmful or they can choose to ignore. When it comes to the public discussing public figures, I’m completely against shutting down talk. It’s a dangerous path and one that shouldn’t be gone down imo, no matter how much I might disagree with what is being said in some cases. Who are we to decide what is important discussion and what isn’t?

BenefitWaffle · 11/03/2024 14:18

Or because the unedited version looks nothing like the edited photo?

It’s unprecedented for not only every major picture agency to issue kill notices on the same image, and to announce it publicly

Getty for example are pretty lax regarding edits to images, for them to even refuse points to there being major issues with the picture. The last time (and only time I can recall) Getty issued a kill notice was when it feared an image was completely faked.

Exactly this. But this isn’t an exciting enough narrative for some.

TastyTakoyaki · 11/03/2024 14:22

Goodness knows why they won’t release the original. The fact that they have refused leads to more reckless conspiracies.

Just this afternoon, whilst reading on here, people have said she has eating disorders, on another thread they said it was originally Carole but superimposed with Kate’s head, I’ve read that maybe she is on steroids and has put on weight, it’s just daft and only getting bigger.

I wonder if there has been any sackings in the household because of this. They had a photoshop issue with the black and white Christmas picture didn’t they? Wasn’t one of the boys missing a finger?

Serenster · 11/03/2024 14:22

Helfs · 11/03/2024 14:07

It is unprecedented for all these agencies to issue the same directive for the same photo so publicly.

Why don’t you stop posting on this thread if it’s so triggering for you

It seems quite likely to me actually, given they all apply the same journalistic standards, and the image manipulation has been publicly pointed out.

What is more unusual in this case, granted, is that all the news photo agents dashed to use the image as soon as possible. Not many photos would garner such across the board interest, I imagine?. Anyway, that means, having all accepted it, they all then have to take it down.

You just keep repeating yourself, when a bunch of us have said - yes she’s done a heavy edit, she’s admitted to that, the reason behind it is likely innocent - why are you making out there is more to it? It’s not a big deal - yes maybe it’s a big deal in terms of it rarely happens, but other than that what’s the drama? Woman badly photoshops herself and gets caught. So? What’s your point? You keep saying it’s unprecedented by the most likely reason has been explained to you, yet you keep banging the same drum.

You also keep banging the same drum of ‘nothing to see here’.

It’s unusual, as are lots of the going’s on with the Royals since Xmas, so people are going to talk and speculate. You really don’t want to live somewhere that free speech isn’t allowed I hope.

aliceinthecities · 11/03/2024 14:29

It's interesting, isn't it, that people are talking about Kate as if she is their mate from next door, a woman who just edited her pic a bit too much, not a big deal. I guess this imagined closeness is how the RF survives as an institution. Relatable Kate

She hasn’t admitted to doing a heavy edit

Also the most likely reason hasn’t been explained. You clearly have no idea what it takes for a kill notice to be issued. Again I’ll take my decade+ experience in this area over your lack of comprehension

People are purposely ignoring how serious a kill notice is.
Retouching photos is normal, this is not normal.

Not at all, I don’t care much for Kate, but what I don’t like is the behaviour of Twitter ghouls like the OP. Thats another society I don’t want to live in. Cancel culture has become rife and this is another example of how people think they can behave.

Larasbra · 11/03/2024 14:35

I am not on Twitter, and I only became aware of this because mainstream press published a photo received from the palace which was then retracted by 5 major news agencies. This burst out from the small bubble of RF crazies into the mainstream news world and it looks either offensive (outright lies) or comic, depending on how you want to look at it.

This.

Speculating that a mother is dead/dying/seriously ill when her children's friends are old enough to read it and relay it back to them is disgusting.

The media and the general public have a complete lack of shame and awareness.

InfraredLight · 11/03/2024 14:37

I think they know that her entire head or something had been swapped out - not a few tweaks but like the entirety of the photograph is different. Faked as it were. There would not be a 'base' untouched image that would bear any resemblance to the final product. I suspect this is why the kill notices have been issued because it is ultimately deception (not just tidied up).

I don't think it is because she is in a coma, ran off, dead or getting divorced. I think it is because she is not looking great at the moment and they naively thought they could get away this.

Serenster · 11/03/2024 14:38

They do not all apply the same standards in regards to photo editing.

You have all their terms and conditions then? Excellent - do post links then, please! I was looking for them earlier.

mythbuster88 · 11/03/2024 14:38

Why is there such desperation by some to believe that the Wales are a picture perfect family? They make any and every excuse for blatant skulduggery regarding them and other royals they favour. There would be wild speculation and much glee if this had been another royal couple. There is every possibility that there is something going on behind the scenes to suggest all is not as rosy with Kate (and William) as some ardent royalists would wish to believe (and I personally don’t believe it solely relates to her surgery; but that’s conjecture). How are you ever going to cope if it is revealed? This fawning is very unhealthy, and doesn’t change anything.
