I am pleased to let you know that Prince William is on good form, visiting my home town today, meeting our football team and pulling a pint in the local. He clearly prioritised his engagements this week and this was far too important to miss⚽️🤣

Please do not say I am committed to condemning him.
I condemn his work record, yes, I think he could do much much more.

The article is from the telegraph which will obviously big him up

He has done a huge amount already - the Earthshot Prize is a game-changing initiative.

His impact as an ambassador and statesman-like representative for the U.K. makes him absolutely invaluable- especially in the context of our succession of ineffectual or frankly embarrassing prime ministers.

Am wondering if some of the palace press officers are around...

Since they don't have any actual work to brief on

Apart from fielding a deluge of enquiries from the global media about Kate’s whereabouts…

I'm sorry you're overworked. I hope they pay you overtime

These threads are funny.
PW does very little. Yet gets a lot of support.

Yes they are amusing. He's loved all over the world

Apparently

Oh I see! Harry and Meghan’s Agency are paying you by the post, so you assume William’s people pay people too?? 😅

How delightfully funny of you! Sadly no, I’m afraid I’m here entirely under my own steam.

Mind you, with successively high popularity polls and an indifference to the uttering of trolls, why on earth would William bother? It’s understandable in the case of Harry, who is both extremely unpopular snd obsessed with his own bad press…

spriots · 03/03/2024 18:15

What is this determination to make this about Harry and Meghan about? Not that it's relevant, but I am not a fan of them either.

I just assumed no one could possibly type this garbage without money exchanging hands.

His impact as an ambassador and statesman-like representative for the U.K. makes him absolutely invaluable

A Venn diagram would reveal considerable overlap of Harry supporters/ William critics and vice versa. Ever since Harry launched his attacks on his family this has gone with the territory.

I supported my contention about William’s reputation overseas with a link to a very credible poll.

If you must dismiss my point as “garbage” feel free to provide some sort of supporting material. Otherwise I’m afraid I will have to question your credibility and motives 😊

I don't know the motivations of every William critic but I certainly have criticised his work ethic for over a decade...

And it isn't really an answer to a criticism to deflect it onto someone else anyway.

Piggy backing off Roulette, as it were ...

I do think he needs to increase the number of engagements he does annually (not right now but I think it's something he should definitely be implementing in the next year once Catherine is back on duty).

I don't know what he does day to day and it is entirely possible that he is very busy behind the scenes. I would say the same about any upper management role, I have never had one and don't really know what they do all day. But regardless I think that the Queen had a point when she said she needed to be seen to be believed. William might spend 8 hours a day working but people are always going to go by the number of official engagements he carries out and now he is the Prince of Wales I don't think he should be doing far far fewer than the Princess Royal or the Edinburgh's.

Optics are important and whilst I have a great deal of sympathy for the position he is in at the moment, serious operation so soon after he stepped into the role isn't ideal by any means, I hope that going forward we see him stepping up in a more visible way.

And I hope that the line he and Catherine seem to be drawing between public and private is respected going forward. The Sunday Times is speculating that they are using this whole situation as a way of making clear what they will share and what they won't, hence the sticking to the original statement.

How very industrious of you to devote a decade to criticising his work ethic!

In reality, you might as well have spent that time criticising the work ethics of the CEO of Shell or the vice president of the South African football association.

You have absolutely no idea what any of them does on a day to day basis. Any criticism is based entirely on supposition and projection.

What does that poll show about statesmen like qualities, work ethic or impact? It's a straight up popularity poll and, as an apolitical figure, he will always do better than say Biden or Putin who were other figures in the poll.

I am sure that Taylor Swift has great popularity, that doesn't make her a great stateswoman, just popular?

@MrsLeonFarrell Excellent post

Ineedwinenow · 03/03/2024 18:42

It’s great to see William out, I’m actually going through something similar (parent with stage 4 cancer, unwell partner and I’ve lost my beautiful dog all in the last couple of months)

I’ve put myself into a self imposed exile and I’m just about ready to face the world again! I think it’s unfair William is facing so much criticism as I genuinely know what he’s going through especially as you’re the one everyone relies on in the family and it’s bloody awful!

I suppose a lot of users on here like some members of the RF and not others so each to their own I suppose. I think every member of the RF faces daily criticism no matter who they are or what they do and feel sorry for all of them 🫣

Thank you! Mum has ovarian cancer and it can be treated but it will return, losing my dog has broken my heart and looking after my husband has been tough in the middle of it all, luckily we don’t have children like William but trust me I genuinely know what he’s going through and it’s awful, it’s tough on the sick members of my family obviously but being the main support person is really difficult ☹️☹️☹️

@MrsLeonFarrell "? I don't know what he does day to day and it is entirely possible that he is very busy behind the scenes"

To be honest, I can't begin to imagine with what....

I don't know any CEOs but they all seem to get paid a lot and work long hours. I have no idea what he does when he isn't being photographed but I will suggest some things!

He is CEO of the Duchy of Cornwall so I assume that involves a lot of meetings.

Celebrities don't just turn up to support charities like Earthshot I assume he had to put time into that.

He is Patron of a campaign (something about building a hospital's wing I think) I assume he has to glad hand people.

He is heir to the thrones I assume he has behind the scenes stuff he needs to be informed about.

He presumably has background information about visits that needs reading and remembering so people feel seen.

He has state events that all need rehearsing.

Then there are meetings with his staff and planning and coordinating with other working royals.

I fully accept I am inventing all these things but none of them seem things that he wouldn't need to do. He obviously can have more time off than someone in a regular job and I do think he needs to be more obviously working but I don't assume that because I haven't seen a photo of every second of his day he is spending time between public visits on the sofa watching boxsets

@MrsLeonFarrell

If he does all that himself why does he need 90 staff, what are they doing?
