I am pleased to let you know that Prince William is on good form, visiting my home town today, meeting our football team and pulling a pint in the local. He clearly prioritised his engagements this week and this was far too important to miss⚽️🤣

There’s always someone who insists upon being an equal opportunity antagonist but many others on the thread are paid-up members of the Sussex fan club.

Given the King and Prince and Princess of Wales represent our country well, I’m more than happy to pay the £1.27 or whatever it is they supposedly cost.

thinking M&H are toerags or beacons of brilliance has no bearing on this thread, which is about William (and Kates) tremendously low number of engagements and apparent lack of commitment to their work - despite the monarchy needing, more than ever, for him to provide stability and step up when others are unable to.

ArcaneWireless · 04/03/2024 18:02

I agree Alice and Alberto.

If someone wants to step back and care for a loved one? Crack on.

I don’t care who you are or what you do.

AliceOlive · 04/03/2024 18:05

WTF is a toerag and why would you call any human being such a thing?!

ItsAllAboutTheDosh · 04/03/2024 18:09

@AliceOlive I am older and toerag when I grew up simply meant a bit mischievous. It was not a bad thing to say about someone.

Roussette · 04/03/2024 18:09

Good grief. Toerag is a very very mild almost fun term where I come from
There's no need to get insulted by that word

Daisyislazy · 04/03/2024 18:09

I've often wondered if they limit their work commitments just now because they know things will change when they become King and Queen and I suppose William saw first hand what being royal did to his parents

Oh and I didn't work for a number of years and had a couple of staff... loved it!

Daisyislazy · 04/03/2024 18:10

Toerag isn't offence

SummaLuvin · 04/03/2024 18:12

I find it fascinating that some people have access to mumsnet and the time to write and post a comment, but seem unable to use google...

AliceOlive · 04/03/2024 18:12

Well don’t count on me going around calling H&M that even if you all are cool with it.

Roussette · 04/03/2024 18:13

It's like calling someone a scamp or a rascal

I don't think anyone expects you to

Why are you insulted by it? I double checked on alternatives in Oxford English Dictionary and it offered me scamp and rascal
Let's not make a mountain out of a molehill

You are being a wee toerag again Rousette

That's where they go when they have no actual response to any points made. After "Sussex squad"

After Sussex squad go where? I thought this thread was about the royal family

ArcaneWireless · 04/03/2024 18:17

Some might say toe rag.

Others will differ…

I can be a bit of a scamp and a toerag all at the same time!

Gottseidank · 04/03/2024 17:11

Most of these republican/Sussex Squad arguments are so skittish, it’s almost funny.

If it’s about the money, I imagine Macron costs the French far more than KC & William combined.

If it’s about the excess, I imagine many of the very same posters that find themselves so outraged by William’s living quarters would have no problem whatsoever with Harry and Meghan’s 12 mock Spanish-Mission bathrooms. They would likely say “Good for them!”

So what is it about?

Let me know too if you ever find out!

The thread is just another attempt to attack a man while his wife is recovering from a serious operation father is being treated for cancer…

If you get elected to congress in US, even for one term, you get a pension and healthcare for life. It is enough to never work again. And they vote on their own benefits!

Nice! Booking my flights!

Very poor performance. I suppose it means they aren’t very confident in their abilities if they have to level the playing field to that degree…

It turns out I do have access to google! Thanks so much for the suggestion.

I am not surprised to find OED explaining that:

toe-rag is considered derogatory

Also, you might want to check the origins a bit more deeply. It has both classist and racist connotations. The classist connotation - mocking the poor - was obvious. But it’s also racial in nature as it relates to the Tuareg people.

Language evolves as does what people consider appropriate in terms of usage, no matter what words you may have used to insult others in your youth.

Probably good to know what the words really mean if you are going to throw them around. Like you said, google is available to everyone.
