I am pleased to let you know that Prince William is on good form, visiting my home town today, meeting our football team and pulling a pint in the local. He clearly prioritised his engagements this week and this was far too important to miss⚽️🤣

@Serenster I read hairdresser and others are employees. I do not know if it is true. But every engagement or public appearance requires a lot of hairdresser time. And every time she travels her hairdresser will go with her. Hairdressers with high net worth individuals in the public eye do not just cut hair. They will constantly be refreshing her hair throughout a day in the public eye. She will be unlikely to wash her own hair. Her hairdresser will wash and dry her hair. I have known people who are high net worth individuals who are not in the public eye, and never wash their own hair. Catherine has gorgeous hair, but it takes constant upkeep to look so good in every photograph.

Yes, fantastic to be able to provide so many with employment. Especially in these globally tough times.

"We have absolutely no idea why he missed the memorial service. Personal reasons can cover a whole host of things. It may have been because of the family suicide, we don't know."

Absolutely agree with this - my comment though was more to do with the general tone of his attitude that family comes first. Having just nursed a much loved family member with terminal cancer, while working at the same time, (because that's what us plebs have to do) I find this whole thing really badly done and incredibly tone deaf.

spriots · 04/03/2024 16:32

I suspect that the houses on royal estates have a combined staff - i.e. the Windsor estate cleaners do Adelaide cottage rather than William and Kate employing their own. It's just more efficient when they're not there all year round

Would you have not taken the time off if you could?

"Would you have not taken the time off if you could?"
Absolutely I would have. That's my point, I wasn't afforded that option. Normal people aren't. He needs to know that/ he should know that and he should reflect on just how out of touch the monarchy is with people facing their own personal tragedies while having to get out of bed and go to work.

I don’t see any reason to think he doesn’t know that he possesses some privileges not enjoyed by all. How would you have him demonstrate it for the public?

jeffgoldblum · 04/03/2024 16:59

Sackcloth and ashes probably @AliceOlive !

That's easy! By not cancelling his public duties and getting on with it like the rest of us.

Gottseidank · 04/03/2024 17:11

Most of these republican/Sussex Squad arguments are so skittish, it’s almost funny.

If it’s about the money, I imagine Macron costs the French far more than KC & William combined.

If it’s about the excess, I imagine many of the very same posters that find themselves so outraged by William’s living quarters would have no problem whatsoever with Harry and Meghan’s 12 mock Spanish-Mission bathrooms. They would likely say “Good for them!”

So what is it about?

Like the rest of us? Speak for yourself.

Not everyone wants a race to the bottom.

That’s a true “if I can’t have it no one should” mentality.

It’s just not the way I think.

Not me! You don't seem to grasp that it's not an either/or. Personally, I was on Meghan's side at the beginning because I felt the press treated her like shit, but I have no longer much interest in her or Harry. I am interested in the P&P of W because they claim respect, are part of the establishment, will one day be King and Queen and cost me money. As such I am interested in their doing. I also like a bit of gossip!

There’s always someone who insists upon being an equal opportunity antagonist but many others on the thread are paid-up members of the Sussex fan club.

Given the King and Prince and Princess of Wales represent our country well, I’m more than happy to pay the £1.27 or whatever it is they supposedly cost.

How do you know they are paid up? 🤔

It's really the William and Kate defenders who keep talking about Harry and Meghan.

No it's not! Very clearly it's not! And your attempt to claim moral superiority means that this conversation is done.

Roussette · 04/03/2024 17:46

Why is it always put down to envy or jealousy when it is so clearly not.

I think it’s just a turn of phrase. Surely there isn’t a formal membership.

That's where they go when they have no actual response to any points made. After "Sussex squad"

I agree. And plenty of "normal" people can and do take extended breaks from work for illness or to help a loved one through illness. It just depends on individual personal circumstances. Anyone who says they wouldn't take the opportunity if their circumstances allowed it is, in my opinion, disingenuous.

AliceOlive · 04/03/2024 17:58

I didn’t use those particular words. Those belong to another poster.

I am struggling to understand what could make one wish to deny another person the time to take care of a sick loved one if it were possible for them to have it.

But the poster who posited this seems aggrieved at the conversation so should we leave it now?
