I do see your point @smilesy , I think all I meant is that Charles may not have the yearning to see his grandchildren that Harry, as a doting parent, might wish him to have. If H and M want their children to have a bond with him, they ought really to be making more effort, otherwise the moment will be lost.

It is such a shame that KC has barely seen two of his dgcs. Based on how he interacts with William's children, he looks like a lovely grandfather. It's also such a shame for the children themselves. They are basically being denied the opportunity to know part of their heritage.

I agree @JSMill . His children are only being allowed to get to know one grandparent. No cousins, aunts, uncles, etc. it’s really very sad and not nice of their parents to do this to them. 🙁

SaffronSpice · 22/05/2024 16:01

My MIL was so caught up with my DC cousins when they were young (providing wrap around care and sleepovers every week) that she never had time to visit my DC. We did visit her a few time a year but she hardly ever saw them at their home. I made my peace with it. But it annoyed me intensely when we visited one time when the older ones were tweens and she commented on their lack of bond with her and that she hoped she would have the same relationship with them as she did with their cousins. By then it was too late.

It is the other way round with H&M but I do wonder if they may all meet up in due course and H&M will feel aggrieved at the lack of relationship between their children and their cousins/king and, like my MIL, lack any insight into why that might be.

JSMill · 22/05/2024 16:02

@BruFord it's not only not nice, it's not even in the best interests of the children. What if something happened to either or both of them? My neighbour had to take in her nephews when her SIL died and her db had a breakdown. Shit happens.

No heritage except a title - madness!

She must hate going anywhere near the U.K. or having anything to do with the RF, and encouraging Harry’s security complaints offers her a neat way to stay away.

She is so unbelievably ungrateful to the Royal family and the UK, the only reason she is sat in a multi million dollar mansion with worldwide fame and fortune is because she married into the worlds most famous family with a 30 million pound ‘spectacle’ of a wedding to kick her new life off, plus a huge Kensington Palace apartment just for starters and a worldwide platform that she always dreamed of. It’s clear the institution bent over backwards for her but nothing would ever be enough, what does the RF and UK get in return? We are racist and the Commonwealth is Empire 2.0

Vespanest · 22/05/2024 17:13

Charles cannot win with this, it’s clear that Harry is still in his angst phase, how can Charles trust him. Bearing in mind it was supposedly the palace leaking on Harry and yet stories are being leaked all the time. This is made worse by Harry always responding if things are not true (when it’s bad for them). Catherine is being dragged more than ever, both her and Charles still have the racism allegations hanging over them. Harry should be nowhere near the Wales children, it not like we don’t already know that he’s see them as fair game. It’s not like Charles can pop over to the states. All the security costs would not go down well.

BruFord · 22/05/2024 17:25

@BigWillyLittleTodger It is quite incredible, isn’t it. Most people who go into acting want fame and fortune. She’s got both!

Plus their parents jet off regularly leaving them alone with Nannies I presume.

I wonder what lies H and M will tell their children why they have no relationship with their grandfather who is a king.

Also their Uncle and Aunt, and their cousins.

twinklystar23 · 22/05/2024 18:07

Veapanest I must have missed that what has H done regarding the Wales children if so that's just the worst

JSMill · 22/05/2024 18:28

@BruFord they do seem to leave their children a lot. I remember them leaving Archie in Canada when they went back to England to go thank the Canadian high commissioner for their stay in Canada 🤨. He was less than a year and I just couldn't understand why you would return home and leave your baby in a foreign country.

WinnieTheW0rm · 22/05/2024 19:07

The Nigeria trip meant they were away for Mothers Day. Which is less important than a birthday, but not something I'd have predicted they would have chosen to miss

Travelling thousands of miles from Canada to say thank you to Canada? Leaving your 8 month old in Canada?

Makes perfect sense!

JSMill · 22/05/2024 19:21

@IcedPurple that's exactly what happened!! Bizarre!

She clearly has an extraordinary degree of ambition and self belief, but achieving the wealth and status she has, purely by marriage, must be orders of magnitude greater than even her wildest fantasies. But that wasn’t what she wanted, only as a means to an end. We can fuck off with history, castles, priceless jewels, British fashion and quaint traditions. She’s interested in private jets, super yachts, tacky mansions and free clothes. The titles though, all good thanks, they can be leveraged for money.

I think she was interested in being royal. In a half Hallmark Princess half political speech giving philanthropist way. Sadly both are fantasies. They weren’t as rich as she imagined, the the palaces are quite sparse and dated, they can’t speak and they turn up at the behest of the government. You had to turn up at Garden Parties, in the rain, shake hands…and you don’t get paid. Isn’t she on video at her first garden party saying: can I go home?

Meanwhile there was Zara, husband and brother waving, smiling , chatting yesterday. And they really don’t get paid for this.

Ratsoffasinkingsauage · 22/05/2024 22:21

@PinkTonic It is extraordinary. I’ve never seen someone bungle something so badly. She only seems to think in Hollywood terms. How incredibly tacky and narrow minded.

SaffronSpice · 22/05/2024 22:41

They definitely do.

Well like everyone born into money they have extremely comfortable lives. They themselves don’t draw a salary from public work. But they have many family perks.

They aren’t just a wealthy family. The civil list payments pay for the monarch to perform the functions of the monarchy and the income from the Duchy of Cornwall is to provide an income for the Prince of Wales (the position not the individual) to enable them to fulfil their role. Some of this they use to pay other working members of the royal family to carry out official engagements. That is why H&Ms income from the King/Queen stopped when they left.

I was talking about Zara et al goi g to the garden party. They don’t get paid for it. Working ones sure.

MaturingCheeseball · 24/05/2024 09:30

Apparently Meghan was overheard saying the garden party was “boring”. A major part of the royal job is looking fascinated about the dullest people and the yawniest of trips and events. One time Harry was caught hissing at her to pay attention on the balcony, but I don’t think he ever dared do that again!

As Queen Mary said, 'You are a member of the Royal Family. We are never tired and we love hospitals.'

It’s not the job for me!
