Unless Pippa Middleton is exactly like her character on The Windsors, I can't imagine her, in tabloid parlance, frolicking in a bikini while Kate is at death's door.

Potentially but Pippa has 3 children and regardless of tragedy, you can’t not smile or have fun with your kids. Her husband owns the resort so it’s basically a holiday home. If there were no cameras she’d just be a Mum at the beach practising self care during a stressful time,

I'm surprised there has been no leaks at all about what is wrong with Kate. Even in journalism land I haven't heard anyone know what is wrong.

Quite possibly because the answer is "nothing is wrong". She had a planned procedure and is recovering. That's it.

Unlike Charles I think William and Kate are wanting to revert the royals back to the time when information on them was rarely shared with the public, more pre 1950 style, they have shown this by reducing the charities and causes they want to be associated with, don’t work anywhere near as much as other royals, they appear to not want to undertake ribbon cutting for a library in Doncaster and more involvement in bigger issues such as the housing crisis, early years etc. This may sound good in theory but as Queen Elizabeth said herself, royals need to be seen to be believed, she was a wise woman, I don’t think William’s more distant style of monarchy will work in this social media age.

I think both William and Harry are exactly the same in this respect. They want the status but don't want to do the press intrusion or the boring handshaking bits. They want to be old fashioned Royalty by divine right and just be allowed to do what they want, with a compliant establishment and press keeping their secrets ( which they do, but they want things in return now, which they didn't in the past) Harry was stupid enough to follow through on it and has got an almighty shock when he realized what being an " ordinary person' involves, and that actually all his star power comes from his position of birth. None of them want to give up the lifestyle. None of them want to pay the price for their enormous privilege either. Most of them realise that they have to do it though.

Perhaps he is appearing in Celebrity Big Brother 😉

GracieNotes · 28/02/2024 17:11

Until I read this thread, Catherine was at home taking a break after surgery. Perhaps the chaos of the last few years has taken its toll and she just fancied some time out as a normal human to recover. As for yesterday, William’s absence could be down to any number of reasons. Perhaps he’s sick of having his every single move scrutinised and he thought F it, I’m staying home today. Not king yet so perhaps he’s allowed to do a few bunks.
Now my mind has gone wild with conspiracy theories that are - let’s face it - MUCH less likely than the most obvious explanation… and I can’t stop reading!
Beware the rabbit hole, people.

The person who started these rumours has said he lied

No, that's not a fair representation at all.

I would expect a separation announcement to come relatively soon.

Serenster · 28/02/2024 17:11

The PP who said the situation is strongly reminiscent of this had it dead right.

The Palace has told you what has happened, and told you when you might expect to see the Princess of Wales about an about. It’s not rocket science…

Agree! Usually someone knows, this time nothing

There'll be someone along soon whose brother in law is in the army and has text to say they need to all hustle to London ASAP.

Didn't this happen multiple times in the queen's final few years?

Exactly.

I don't know anyone in RL who speculates like they do here on MN.

No.

No idea what you are on about

Mrupwalk has absolutely nailed it.

ItsAllAboutTheDosh · 28/02/2024 17:19

@GracieNotes I do not think William would have dropped out of a memorial where he was doing a reading an hour beforehand, because he could not be bothered.

Lol. They'll probably start now and continue for 50 years until she actually does die.

Has anyone suggested Kate is pregnant, has hyperemesis again and is also waiting for her 20 week scan before announcing it? She is old enough that a pregnancy comes with extra risks. The timing would fit. goes AWAL in January, announces she will be out of action until after Easter.....

Well, it's a nicer thought than all this horrid speculation that she has something seriously wrong with her.

No because then it would be obvious that the surgery was a lie. And while I don't think they should share personal info, and I don't think that they'd never lie, I do think they wouldn't lie if they knew it would have to be essentially retracted a couple of months later.

SOxon · 28/02/2024 14:37

Exactly - I would place good money on this theory.

Camilla is not related to the Greek Royal Family

I was surprised that she would agree to this arrangement.

How would it look for Camilla in her Ascot worthy hat, to lead a memorial service
for the Godparent of the Prince of Wales, also attendant.

For a family imbued in protocol who curtsy or bow to each other upon first meeting, in private! how do they reconcile these courtly manners with pushing
the PoW’s nose out of joint?? at a memorial service for his own Godparent?

If I am way off I will put my hand up to it. (but believe I am correct of course)

The Kent faction had more right, as being related to King Constantine than the second wife of King Charles, Queen Consort notwithstanding.

He doesn’t have to bow to Camilla if King isn’t present though.

Serenster · 28/02/2024 17:22

It’s the most serious allegation of our time, they should be sued if they are lying, they normally would for something of this magnitude.

Presumably however the Palace are well aware that when the Princess recovers and returns to a public life, everyone will look exceedingly stupid? So why on earth dignify these ridiculous theories, not to mention waste money on legal fees, when you essentially hold the trump card?

He's next due in Stafford at. Police event on 5 March according to royal diary

Is he not due to visit a synagogue this week?

Babycote · 28/02/2024 17:32

I just checked and realised I was searching for Duke of Edinburgh by mistake, got my royal titles wrong. Searching for Prince of Wales gives no upcoming engagements whatsoever.

None for King or queen either

(princess Royal, and Duke and duchess of Edinburgh have loads)

Gettingcolder · 28/02/2024 17:34

I imagine the most likely scenario is that Catherine had a hysterectomy (I had a long stay in a private hospital after my own complex surgery and was not allowed back to work for three months).

William was probably blindsided by the death of Thomas Kingston and needed to attend to family matters concerning that.

A lot of people here are reading far too much into everything!

The upcoming engagements section on the Royal family website used to be filled out, but several of the royal family members stopped that during Covid, to avoid large crowds turning up to their engagements. Senior members the King and Queen and William and Kate in particular have never really gone back to having it filled in (possibly for security reasons). Their engagements therefore are known to the people they are visiting, and to the press in advance, but not otherwise.

Unless the surgery she had was surgery on the foetus. But I suppose that is done, when needed, at a much later gestation.

Agree. Kate has had what they said she had: some pretty unglamorous and miserable surgery and is recuperating.

Wiliiam has had some relatively mundane reason for not attending a service which, after all, was not a funeral, wedding or coronation. That could range from not feeling up to speaking/reading in public at a death-related event, given the very recent death of Thomas Kingston at a young age, to simply having a case of needing to stay close to the loo. I can see why he might feel a public statement on either topic was beyond what was necessary. I’m less inclined to think it’s the children as the service was not long and they would have plenty of back-up. But honestly: all normalishly boring things that just happen to normal people …
