Rose harissa (no that's not one of William's mistresses for any wankers reading) mixed with olive oil and lemon juice poured over cauliflower florets. Pop in the oven. One nearly done, chuck a load of sliced chorizo over it and bake for a few more minutes, letting the juices all run together. Delicious.

We must be kindred spirits. I often roast pepperoni and cauliflower together.

Last week I roasted cauliflower and harissa for the first time.

The two together sound devine.

In the news?

@AliceOlive it didn't copy properly and still won't, @JaneJeffer s post at 20.24 yesterday.

Marc weighed in on Insta in calling the furore ridiculous (more wittily than that of course) and Martin K liked it.

Sorry now I see the post on the prior page.

It is! Steam the florets with the peeled garlic. Mash with one of those hand held blenders, add a bit of cooking liquid to loosen up, add butter, salt and pepper and yum!

That sounds so good! I have done this but with horseradish instead of better during a brief period of “healthy” insanity.

I am foraging for wild leeks today (first time I've ever gone foraging, unless you count the time I ate black nightshade as a kid, thinking it was blackcurrants). What cheese do you think would go with a wild leek pesto?

(I am constantly baffled by how people can construct a false narrative based on no evidence whatsoever and then get angry with the powers that be for trying to fool them re that false narrative.)

oooh, share details of your trip later, if you don’t mind. I really want to learn about foraging.

I think I would stick with fresh parmigiana reggiano. Or pecorino romano.

Same constitutional experts who despite at least three forty page threads and it being explained very slowly and carefully to them couldn't get that Queen Consort = Queen is king's wife = title of Queen = Queen Camilla and that queen consort isn't the same as Regnant? THOSE constitutional experts?

Quite

Ras hanout is good instead of harissa. I have that with roast pork loin.

together with the SS and their pathetic pipe dreams for the reign of the drug addled one and his wife

Oh is this the point of all the insanity on the other threads hollering about being lied to and all the rest of it? they're deluded if they think that will happen.

I love Westminster Abbey, @Mymilkshakebringsallthepapstomycar . Despite the crowds it's oddly quiet but for low voices and footsteps, and I love to sit in the nave and look up at the ceiling and picture those medieval workmen perched on rickety scaffolding and building to the glory of God a church that most of them wouldn't live long enough to see completed. Last time I was there a very odd thing happened - I was ambling around and saw in the floor near Poet's Corner a memorial - all the detail rubbed out bar the name - which was the same as DF who died when I was a teenager.

Jealous that you got into the shrine - it used to be fully open years ago. And the Diamond Jubilee galleries are amazing.

Edited

I do think that a lot of the current press furore and SS activity is all about hoping Harry is somehow more involved in kinging, if not doing the actual kinging. Even pre MM, a lot of the press preferred him to William, probably because of his army career (I remember them loving Andrew over Charles too during the 80s/Falklands) and mishaps and japes that are more interesting to the gutter press than a bloke just getting on with the job and not causing them scandal.

I do also genuinely believe that some of the press - the left press leaning mostly - would be delighted at the break up of William’s marriage and the destabilisation of the monarchy. This is actually nothing new, and it’s the cowardly republicanism of battering, usually, royal or royal adjacent women under the guise of “concern” as away to prod at the institution. Left wing misogyny - at the notion that these women have no agency - at its finest.

I love your a Poet’s Corner story. I’m not religious, but sometimes think that life gives you a sign every now and then.

smilesy · 13/03/2024 09:54

I’m not sure why there is an idea that William’s marriage breaking up would destabilise the monarchy. Charles and Diana divorced and here we are with him as king. I do think a lot of this comes from the more fringe element of Sussex supporters who want to see William and Catherine fail in all areas of their lives. Rather unpleasant and also very hypocritical of those who shriek at any mention of cracks in Harry and Meghan’s marriage. I find the whole premise of wishing doom on anyone’s relationship deeply unpleasant. However, couples do split and the world does not grind to a halt 🤷‍♀️

Ooh yum, will try that. We do this freekeh grain dish with ras al hanout and herbs/pomegranite/lemon and then baked aubergine and yogurt on top and have it with pork belly. Will try cauliflower next time.

I recall the same furore back then and again when Diana died and all the stuff about Charles not being fit to be king etc. It all blew over and obviously QEII wasn’t going anywhere at that time. This time we have a sick king and a gazillion “experts” on social media and 24 hour news. I think some quarters think this is the time, hence the strange revival of unsubstantiated affair rumours and the like.

People have very weird ideas about what will 'destabilise the monarchy.' I have Angela Kelly's books and in one of them she has the pics of HM with her hands in her pockets - pictures that HM asked to be taken, but that Kelly wasn't allowed to use by the household because they 'would bring down the monarchy.' AK had to ask HM for specific permission to use them. Ditto the pics of Pss Margaret in the bath wearing nothing but the Poltimore tiara - 'papers can't publish that, it'll bring down the monarchy!'

FFS, this is an institution that has survived civil wars, religious upheaval, divorce, abdications, murdering an archbishop, regicide (plural) and God knows what. Some people are indulging in some very wishful thinking.

I do think that a lot of the current press furore and SS activity is all about hoping Harry is somehow more involved in kinging, if not doing the actual kinging

Like this. We have a mature constitutional monarchy and part of that constitution is its flexibility and adaptability. It will manage just fine in the current shtuss without calling back the press dragon slayer to come riding in on his white charger to save us all, God forbid. This isn't even a crisis - it's a whipped up SM furore.

Oh yes, I can see where all the bollocks coming from, but that is precisely what it is: bollocks. We got through prime ministers like a dose of salts after Boris left, yet we still have the same government. I doubt all this will destabilise the monarchy which has survived pretty much continuously for 1000 years

smilesy · 13/03/2024 10:09

Another thing I find amusing is those who say “I didn’t like Charles, but now he’s king, he’s alright. But I don’t like William” so they probably would get to like William if he became king tomorrow 😂

MrsDanversGlidesAgain · 13/03/2024 10:09

I've seen people trying to seed the rumour that Chas is sicker than he is, as well. Citing 'sources' they just happen to have.

jeffgoldblum · 13/03/2024 10:15

People like to hear their own voices giving their own opinions!
It's all ego driven!
My crazy batshit opinion is the real one , I'm important and have insight and knowledge that no other person has!
Honestly it would be amusing if it wasn't so damaging! 🙄

Didn’t you know? I have heard this too

My neighbour told me. Her dog walkers sister’s partner’s friends’s neighbour’s mum once bought a tea towel in the BP shop so she’d know for sure…

Yeah, I'm reminded of all the people married to someone 'high up in the military' who knew that Philip was dead six months before he actually was. Amazing prescience.

They never seem to have the ability to foretell winning lottery numbers, for some reason.

It was the same with the Queen and the constant “I’ve heard..” posts. If you post often enough that someone in their later 90’s is near the end then chances are, much like a stopped clock twice a day, you’ll be right at some point.

I did enjoy those posts as there was one poster, who seems to have disappeared, whose husband had a fantastic career jumping between being very senior in the military and very junior in the police depending on the thread. He was obvious a very clever man…

pilates · 13/03/2024 10:47

I like to read your cheese posts. A bit of light relief from the insanity on this board atm. Madness.

MrsDanversGlidesAgain · 13/03/2024 10:49

I'm reminded of all those people on Twitter during the pandemic who all had family members who were consultants and nurses who'd just done six week stints without even a pee break and who just KNEW we were all going to die gasping (even after ventilator weren't being used, you'd have thought someone in their family would have told them).

Some people really get a thrill out of spreading this stuff. God knows my life isn't that exciting but it's probably better than theirs.

ChVrches · 13/03/2024 11:25

I recall when we were all going to die of Aids too.

Uricon2 · 13/03/2024 11:30

The worst part for me is how absolutely gleeful some people seem about their theories that Charles and Kate are very seriously ill. I actually think Kate probably has had a rough time and that makes it even worse. They don't care that they are real and actually fairly innocuous human beings, not the Brit versions of Kim Jong Un. It's also not the Truman Show with tiaras.

MaturingCheeseball · 13/03/2024 11:32

I think I’ll have cauliflower cheese tonight - dh is away so a whole one to myself!

I have never been to Westminster Abbey; I would love to go but I’m always put off by the masses of school parties etc outside. What would be the optimum visiting time to avoid the crowds?

So agree it’s like the batshit covid posters. “The whole world’s laughing at us!” Yep. That they are.

Just popping after the insanity of another thread . Big mistake on my part to go there . I now need a hot shower plus some crackers and cheese .
