@Maireas it was magnificent. I’ve never been before, despite being London based for many years. As well as the main abbey, they have the QEII Diamond Jubilee exhibition too in the viewing gallery, which has all these funeral effigies of monarchs and nobility, which are just remarkable - I had no idea such things existed, and many have original clothing worn by their subjects. There’s a carved wooden bust of Henry VII which I thought was breathtaking. Everyone back then seemed to have been really short!
I think the best part was standing in the shrine of St Edward The Confessor surrounded by all the tombs of the ancient kings and queens, and where Charles went to get changed after the coronation. I can’t really describe the feeling standing there - goodness knows what Charles must have been feeling knowing he’s on the continuum of their legacy.
I hope you get to go soon. If you do, you’ll need to tell me what you think of the David Hockney window. I think it’s plain weird! It’s supposed to represent QEII’s legacy on the UK, but looks like a load of random blobs to me 🤣
