Louise and James are not Prince or Princess at parental request, so their surname is Mountbatten Windsor, not their father's dukedom.

Ah, ok, so you need to be a prince or princess to use the duke’s title. Although, I thought they have the right to use the titles, and technically are prince and princess, they just don’t do so and can choose when they are 18 if they want to start using the title.

wildernesssw · 15/02/2024 16:28

I think once you retire from the armed forces you don't use the title, except for a few senior ranks.

And, according to wikipedia (put whatever value on that you choose), if you were in the cavalry and then continue to work in the equestrian world after leaving the army (hence Captain Mark Phillips using his title of 'Captain').

I think once you retire from the armed forces you don't use the title, except for a few senior ranks. Tell that to Hannah Ingram-Moore.

Twitter is aghast that they’re calling themselves the Sussexes now. I don’t get the angst. We’ve had the Cambridges, then Wales then it will be Rex for W&K. We have the Yorks. This is the Americans, isn’t it, who don’t get the Monarchy admin.

I get it, but would say generally, Americans aren't going to get moving to America but still following the rules of a place you claimed you wanted to escape. After all, many of our own families changed their names when they moved here. My grandpa went by an Americanized version of his first name.

😂

It goes back to me calling myself Princess Wilderness of Wherever - it's not illegal, but rather weird

Agreed. And once you decamp to America ... 😂

wildernesssw · 15/02/2024 20:23

Once you decamp to the good ole USA, home of the free and the warriors against the tyranny of kings, of course you use as many titles as possible!

Hurrah for freedom! Down with kings!

Maireas · 15/02/2024 20:41

Hang on - I've just been reading about H&M in Canada for Invictus....but it doesn't start for another year! I thought it was starting today? Why are they there? What in the name of fromage is going on?

Mylovelygreendress · 15/02/2024 20:50

I was a bit puzzled too @Maireas . Is this a new thing ? A pre -event event a year in advance ?

wildernesssw · 15/02/2024 20:50

It's the winter games before the summer games... I think... like the Olympics?

There have been reports of financial troubles, and other reports saying all is well.

The CEO and Chief Commercial Officer left unexpectedly last autumn.

Who knows what's going on?

With this or the African Parks investigation.

Mymilkshakebringsallthepapstomycar · 15/02/2024 20:53

No it’s the 1 year to go event to the Winter Games in 2025. Some sort of practice event to promote and raise money The next Summer event is 2027, possibly in Birmingham.

mrsmingleton · 15/02/2024 20:55

Already there are calculations of the cost but I don't know who pays the costs of the private jet? Will it be them or IG?

Maireas · 15/02/2024 20:56

Right. Confused! I thought they were there for the Games. Is it every year?

Maireas · 15/02/2024 20:57

Yes, I read that they came on a private jet - I assumed for the main event!

Mymilkshakebringsallthepapstomycar · 15/02/2024 21:00

It’s every 2 years. Presume there may have been a bit of a blip around the covid years though. They did arrive in a private jet because reasons and you are a jealous racist or summat.

It is launching the games - saying it will be happening next year.😉

Mymilkshakebringsallthepapstomycar · 15/02/2024 21:05

It’s previously been held in 2014, 2016, 2017, 2018, 2020 (actually held in 2022 due to covid), 2023 and next 2 games scheduled for 2035 and 2027.

Mymilkshakebringsallthepapstomycar · 15/02/2024 21:06

Wiki says 2027 will be Tokyo, not sure why I thought Brum.

Noted. (Self flagellates then curtseys)

wildernesssw · 15/02/2024 21:07

Of course they need a private jet!

Loved the quote by one of the organisers that - asking how to address them - was told 'just call them sir and ma'am' 😂

How deeply though?

Maireas · 15/02/2024 21:08

Thank you, cheese lovers. I am slightly more enlightened, but not much 😉

Mymilkshakebringsallthepapstomycar · 15/02/2024 21:09

I’m fromaged up to the eyeballs. After a particularly cheesy fare using half the Cheddar last night, I hit the Gruyère today. Marmite toast and Gruyère for breakfast, ham and Gruyère sandwich for lunch and gnocchi with garlic mushrooms and Gruyère for dinner. I can feel my arteries closing.

My arms are backwards in the air, my arse on the ground.
