Cheese has not featured in my cooking today, but mid-afternoon I did have a cheese and crisp sarnie 😂 (mature Cheddar, Ready Salted)

@MaturingCheeseball Rumours for the last one were that security, wardrobe, transport and hotel for the two humanitarians was all paid for by Invictus, but I'm not sure it was ever proven. Then 2 extremely experienced and respected chief officers for the Vancouver 2025 games exited suddenly and with no explanation, with rumors that it's already over budget. It's not clear why they need to get a private jet rather than a commercial flight. Maybe you get a superior cheese offering on a private jet, rather than one of those rock hard rolls, a pat of frozen butter and a small chunk of tasteless, shrink wrap cheese you get on Pleb Airways.

God, been taking a look around, the crazy has certainly ramped up on this board over the last few days. Either that, or taking a few days off has bleached my brain. Cheese seems to be the only sane topic.

We had a belated Pancake Day yesterday and you’ll be pleased to know that I made spinach and THREE cheese mix to stuff the pancakes with. And very good it was too (cream cheese, cheddar and halloumi).

RoyallyRhubarb · 15/02/2024 10:22

Twitter is aghast that they’re calling themselves the Sussexes now. I don’t get the angst. We’ve had the Cambridges, then Wales then it will be Rex for W&K. We have the Yorks. This is the Americans, isn’t it, who don’t get the Monarchy admin.

It's weird - of all the things! People are ill informed. Sussexes is perfectly fine and acceptable.

I had a very tasty crepe (from a stall) at our local bonfire night with ham and blue cheese 😋
I must say, Harry is looking happy in the latest photos of him in Canada. He seems to genuinely enjoy interacting with the Invictus athletes. It’s such a shame he doesn’t get the opportunity to do that sort of thing now he has left the RF 🤷‍♀️

mrsmingleton · 15/02/2024 10:31

There's a quite a bit of cheese in the news now 😄

Maireas · 15/02/2024 10:51

I think that suits him, @smilesy .
Giving him Invictus was a wise move on the part of the RF.

It is fine to refer to them as the Sussexes, it’s shorthand for Duke and Duchess of Sussex but it isn’t actually their family name. Apparently they are referring to the children as Archie and Lilibet Sussex. I suppose what is irking people is that the only reason they have that name in any way shape or form is because they have Royal titles, so it looks like more milking of the Royal connection. The children were previously known as Mountbatten -Windsor, so the name change does seem to be a bit of cynical ploy

Maireas · 15/02/2024 11:02

They were known as Mountbatten Windsor when they were born and the parents decided that they would have no titles. Master and Miss MW... I remember Omid Scobie announcing that, rather proudly. No titles.
Now that their parents have chosen to have the style Prince and Princess, Sussex is correct.

But isn’t it only correct as in Prince and Princess of Sussex? Not just A Sussex and L Sussex 🤔 Happy to be corrected @Maireas. What I do think though is that it is interesting that they have managed to get their heads around this particular part of Royal protocol when they found other bits so problematic 😆

edited typo

It's only a shortening. At work they were known as Beatrice York and Eugenie York. Just as Harry was Captain Wales in the army.

Mymilkshakebringsallthepapstomycar · 15/02/2024 13:02

Does that mean that Charles, Anne, Andrew and Edward were all Edinburghs before they grew up/got their own titles (well all except Anne who hasn't received a dukedom)?

Interesting question! No - they were never known as such, either at school or in general usage.

Mymilkshakebringsallthepapstomycar · 15/02/2024 14:42

Thanks @Maireas . I find the etiquette of correct title usage all very confusing! Presumably Harry Wales as he was (Captain Wales)would/could never use that surname beyond his father’s tenure as Prince of Wales - or if he was born as a Wales, could he carry on using it as a surname even when his brother is Prince of Wales? Answers on a postcard….! Must be a right pain for your surname to be changing all the time. Are Edward’s and Sophie’s kids now Edinburghs now, I wonder, or is it up to them to retain whatever they were before - Wessex? Mountbatten- Windsor?

Maireas · 15/02/2024 15:16

Louise and James are not Prince or Princess at parental request, so their surname is Mountbatten Windsor, not their father's dukedom.

I wonder why he doesn't go around calling himself Captain? It would make more sense to me.
