So Harry flew for 11 hours and then spoke to his father for 45 minutes ? Charles then bobbed to Sandringham by helicopter and Harry checked into a hotel. I mean wouldn't you think Harry would have gone to Sandringham with Charles maybe ?

Absolutely no idea @User14March however H and M said they weren’t paid for the OW interview.

Roussette · 08/02/2024 19:39

No, I didn't know that. MrsM. I am just saying that you quoting your post to me makes it look like something I said, and it's up to me to say not so if I want.

myrtleWilson · 08/02/2024 19:33

Mrs M's comment didn't read to me as suggesting you had made any Stepford Wife or indeed Stepford Wife like comments on thread Roussette - Mrs M was alluding to Scobie's comments in that regard and presumably extending the inference that narcissistic tone could be the tone of a narcissist?

As I have explained, I had no idea Omid Scobie had said that, I don't follow what he says.

hoteltango · 08/02/2024 19:41

I understand that H&M are due in Canada for an Invictus-related event from the 14th. So presumably Harry had to get back to California in time to get over his jet-lag and to prepare for that. So that might account for his short visit.

Though I do feel that it was about publicity - he's the King's son, etc.

@reclaimmyboobs and @Mylovelygreendress how much did they get for Netflix and Oprah do you think.

Oprah says at the beginning that they’re not getting paid and Meghan says that’s correct. It’s Oprah’s production so presumably she kept the money from selling the broadcast rights.

Netflix was supposedly £80m but for multiple pieces of content and I’ve only read headlines: I guess that figure has to cover production costs rather than just being a payment for rights. It’s $100m over 5 years so $20m a year minus agent’s 15% unless they did the contract work themselves, tax, production costs, etc. All paid to Archewell which then pays their salaries. Obviously it’s more money than, say, I have, but my outgoings are a lot more humble and a lot less mansion, last-minute flights, private security, etc.

Fair enough but it has certainly been discussed several times here and you are pretty active on these threads. It's also up to me to say that my post did not say that you had said it again

Roussette · 08/02/2024 19:49

Mrs M. I have accepted that you didn't mean that, there is no need to repeat it!

Any of the jewelry which was the personal property of the monarch and inherited monarch to monarch could be sold

Theoretically. But how could you begin to put a price on it? Much of it is historically significant, in addition to the materials and craftsmanship.

And who would buy it? A Russian oligarch (whose assets hadn't been frozen)? An Arab oil sheikh? Trump?

planes go directly to Canada from the UK he could have stayed for a proper visit

the thing that im puzzled about he had police escort to the palace from the airport but not from the palace was he not expected to leave? did he leave unexpected why the swift downgrade in security in less than an hour?

StormzyinaTCup · 08/02/2024 20:00

A narcissistic tone is what was mentioned and if you go and look at the post I am actually agreeing that what he said was disgusting.

Sorry but no, you are agreeing with the whole post when in reply your first sentence is just one word 'Indeed'. Your second sentence talks about his behaviour.

Roussette · 08/02/2024 20:02

Thanks for double checking, good to see that.

Very possible that Oprah made a donation to Archewell instead though?IIRC there were only two donations to Archewell that year and one was for $10 million.

The U.S. media suggested that while they were not paid for the interview, they were paid to license the family photos/video that were included in the broadcast.

He had served his purpose in raising her and in being talked about on the Tig but she had moved beyond that.

Both her parents raised her. She spoke about her father once in the Tig. For Father’s Day.

She has spoken more about her father in interviews. Yup I know both raised her. That wasn't my point - it's people outliving their usefulness.

The comments on American reddit about the visit are hilariously delusional. I get not believing anyone's side completely but after M & H backtracked so badly on their claims, how do they still worship the couple? https://www.reddit.com/r/HarryandMeghanNetflix/s/VBI2269Xfm

'He came all the way from California and daddy dearest could only spare 45 minutes. That has to be the most toxic family ever.'

'I'm genuinely afraid for Harry's life.

I hope this trip goes without incident 🙏🏽'

'Charles must be a drama queen. He calls his sons "I have cancer", son jumps on plane but dad is an out patient, meaning, no operation or chemo for 8 hours non stop. Than he finds out that it's all to deflect the attention of Kates "illness". The woman nobody saw since Christmas, the woman who was only visited once by her hysband and non of their children. The woman who was humiliated by her own husband in public, blamed for being a racist, her parents "bankruptcy", being ultra thin with plasters all over her hands and the tabloids not mentioning her name.

Kate and William are famous for being so open about mental health but what would happen if Kate would be the third woman, married into the RF, who suffers from a mental breakdown with an eating disorder?' > This is just mental, are they saying Charles having cancer is a conspiracy to cover up Kate's ED?? These people live on another planet, not just another continent lol

What a hornet’s nest of nutters! 😂

Fourecks · 08/02/2024 20:25

Harry was listed as an Executive Producer for the interview. It's possible they meant they didn't get paid for giving the interview, but then Harry was paid for being a producer.

Roussette · 08/02/2024 20:02

Thanks for double checking, good to see that.

It was clear you agreed Tom Bower's tone was narcissistic on the other thread and were ok with that term being levelled at him because there was not a mention of it being offensive to you, yet 30 minutes later on this thread you are pulling people up for using the exact same word and how it's wrong and people shouldn't be doing it. It was jarring enough on first read that I didn't need to double check your post.

I think I'm actually having a deja vu as we have discussed this very thing before.

IMO LAX-London, 24'ish hour stay in the UK and then straight back to the West Coast (probably on a nice seat both ways) means he'll hardly have time to notice the time change, so no need to adjust back, so he'll not be suffering from jet lag.

At worse he might be simply be tired for a day or two..he certainly shouldn't need a week to recover before heading for Canada.

Where is everyone getting the news about the 12 minutes and that Camilla was there? I can't find any articles like that. Thanks!

Lady C on GB news this morning then quote in Mirror for 12 minute story.

That Camilla was there no idea but she left shortly afterwards with the King - so assume people are making assumptions that she was in meeting rather than in another room doing last minute packing. Though GO.TV news says she was in the room - and that's apparently Pakistani news site that's currently down - no idea why they think she was there though.

I do hope Camilla was in the room. I envision Harry telling his dad he would like to see him alone and Camilla saying, "Nope. Not going to happen."

This was my thought as well! I assumed that Harry would at least spend a few days in the UK, if not a week. Since the reason this time wasn't a massive event like a funeral or coronation, he would have had every opportunity to just relax for a few days. As the parent of two small children, a break like that would be bliss. It's absolutely bonkers to touchdown for an hour and leave without even getting over the jetlag.

Any normal couple in that same situation would agree for the visiting partner to at least stay a few days. Imagine if someone opened a AIBU thread about flying 11 hrs to visit a sick parent and then returning on the same day. I cannot imagine why Harry would want do that out of his own free will. He's hardly a busy man either as all their projects are pretty much dead anyway. There is nothing in active production, there are zero deadlines or urgent timescales to attend to.

It sounds like he was forced to undertake the trip as a PR or intel collection stunt (find out exactly what is wrong with Kate and Charle's diagnosis) and return asap. Or it was done out of spite as the result of some kind of argument...eg he insisted on going, Meghan thought it was a bad idea and he arranged the trip with a ridiculous timeline to spite her. Either way, there is nothing healthy or normal about what happened. The gesture itself was commendable (visiting your dad after a serious diagnosis) but the actual sequence of events (45-12mins, return flight on same day) is inexplicably bizarre.

I would not be surprised at all if William has decided to go NC with him. Hence why he didn't even try arranging contact with them.

Edited
  1. There was no one who wanted to see him, 2) Meghan insisted he turn right around and get himself back home!

@StormzyinaTCup

Could I politely ask you to drop this. I have covered it but you cannot seem to let it go. I would copy the actual post across and explain in detail what I meant in my reply, but it is against TG to C&P posts from other threads. And to be honest, this is feeling very much like a continuing PA.
I'd appreciate you moving on from this if at all possible.
Thank you. Smile

Perhaps a bit off track but I would be really impressed if Charles got Princess Anne further up the line of succession. It's totally wrong that she is behind Andrew, Edward and their children. She was born before them. I thought the ruling that HMQ changed when Catherine was pregnant with Charlotte would also take that into account. I'd be far happier if she was further up the line than 17

It's not up to Charles, as it wasn't up to the late Queen. It's a matter for the Commonwealth Parliaments. And Anne might be very happy to be where she is, and have no wish to be higher up the line of succession.

Plus, moving her up would also move up her children and grandchildren, who haven't been brought up with any expectation that they would take on a royal role, and probably really don't want to. (Though Mike Tindall as Prince Consort is an entertaining idea.)

Mike Tindall as prince consort is an excellent idea! Wouldn't that be fun?!

Every time he comes over now it’s for the absolute bare minimum time possible. Clearly no concern for the environment whatsoever.
