So Harry flew for 11 hours and then spoke to his father for 45 minutes ? Charles then bobbed to Sandringham by helicopter and Harry checked into a hotel. I mean wouldn't you think Harry would have gone to Sandringham with Charles maybe ?

The thing is, Thomas Markle's ill feelings towards Meghan are as a direct result of her rejection of him. She hasn't seen him since before her wedding. Harry has never met him. He was supposed to be walking her down the aisle until he had a heart attack! She cut him off because he (stupidly, but not maliciously) allowed a photographer to take photos of him supposedly getting fitted for his father of the bride suit in Mexico. I'm not sure what happened, but he said that no one from the palace helped him in the run-up to the wedding, gave him any advice, assisted him in sorting out his suit, or warned him not to co-operate with photographers or journalists. So he was completely out of his depth, a modest man living on a low income in Mexico who was suddenly going to be an intrinsic part of a royal wedding with an audience of a billion people. He must've been absolutely terrified and was clearly completely out of his depth. And then he had a heart attack and she cut him off and hasn't seen or spoken to him since.

I don't condone the things he's said or the way he's gone on TV to complain about her and her behaviour, but I think the way she's treated him is disgusting. He's her father. He raised her after her mother buggered off when she was a child. Doria may be a big part of her life now, but it was Thomas who raised Meghan and paid for her private school and university. The reason she hung around film and TV sets when she was a child was because he was raising her as a single dad.

All of this .

Perhaps a bit off track but I would be really impressed if Charles got Princess Anne further up the line of succession. It's totally wrong that she is behind Andrew, Edward and their children. She was born before them. I thought the ruling that HMQ changed when Catherine was pregnant with Charlotte would also take that into account. I'd be far happier if she was further up the line than 17

@User3353235

the actual sequence of events (45-12mins, return flight on same day) is inexplicably bizarre.

He didn't return the same day, he had an overnight stop, with about 30 hours in the UK...

maybe spend a moment thinking it through

Maybe you should do the same. I wouldn't dream of saying someone was a narcisisst unless I knew it to be fact.
It's a pretty horrible assumption you know

But not half an hour ago, on another thread, you were quite happy to agree with a poster who said Tom Bower's comments had a narcissistic tone!

Roussette · 08/02/2024 18:03

Well done for cross referencing my posts! Good work on your part.

What Boyer said was truly awful. A narcisstic tone is slightly different to saying someone is a narcisisst.

@Veggie1961 the evidence seems to surely point to M not wanting T at the wedding? A few weeks prior at a spa or similar, medical, PT…Hair cut, wet shave at Trumpers etc, tailor, suit. Practice, whistle stop tour of UK. Support, encouragement, guidance, media training. I would do all this. Help with speech. If speech expected? She’d simply not leave all above to chance.

@Turtlerussell Why didn’t she bring TM over to acclimatise him to UK pre wedding? Leaving things to chance seems unlikely.

I don’t think she ever wanted her father in the spotlight, he might have inadvertently said something to show her up. For a man of humble means I would have thought she and Harry would have supported him in every way not pretty much leave him to sort everything out.
Harry’s never even met him, that strikes me as very strange. I wonder why? Could it be that Meghan fears her dad might say something that puts her in a poor light? Or talk about her previous marriage and wedding?

The change wasn’t retrospective so didn’t affect Anne. It didn’t even affect Lady Louise who is much younger than Anne, but stayed behind her younger brother.

I don’t think Anne wouldn’t suddenly want her children and grandchildren bumped up the line tbh. If that change had happened Peter Philips would currently be counsellor of state instead of Beatrice. Anne wouldn’t want that imo.

User14March · 08/02/2024 18:08

See my posts above @Tiddlywinks63 his crowd judge. You’d hope she’d be proud & rise above but not easy. In early days maybe high risk as she saw it.

It's not up to Charles, as it wasn't up to the late Queen. It's a matter for the Commonwealth Parliaments. And Anne might be very happy to be where she is, and have no wish to be higher up the line of succession.

Plus, moving her up would also move up her children and grandchildren, who haven't been brought up with any expectation that they would take on a royal role, and probably really don't want to. (Though Mike Tindall as Prince Consort is an entertaining idea.)

Purplebunnie · 08/02/2024 18:12

I appreciate that it wouldn't be Princess Anne's choice either for herself or her children, I just respect this particular member of the RF and have more faith and trust in her than the rest

I honestly have no idea but I believe that Willian will inherit more than Harry.
Once Charles goes Harry will need to be able to stand on his own two feet. Weren’t Harry and Meghan supposed to be downsizing to Hollywood? That’s all gone rather quiet.

YetMoreNewBeginnings · 08/02/2024 18:14

I don’t understand the love for Anne in comparison to Charles and Edward tbh.

If Harry or Andrew had a criminal conviction for the dog biting children in the park, and had had another dog that killed one of the Queens corgis, we’d never hear the end of it.

Yet with Anne it’s been totally forgotten.

derxa · 08/02/2024 18:15

User14March · 08/02/2024 17:50

@wildernesssw the danger was PH might have backtracked, possibly, as she saw it. TM’s not urbane, sophisticated. Would Harry have judged? The crowd he runs with would/do judge. Look at the way he describes the provincial master at Eton in Spare, as he sees it, etc. I’d like to think she could be proud & very confident. In reality that might have been hard.

A very perceptive comment. Meghan was afraid that Thomas would put his foot in it. Meghan eliminated all the people who would show her in a bad light or who dared to criticise her. The Markles, Raglands Harry's hooray Henry chums, William and Kate. It was quite extraordinary watching it all unfold.
Meghan was all over the wedding party outfits and details like tights (as was her right) but failed to get her dad fitted for his morning suit.

William will inherit everything.

Charles will likely set up trust funds for Harry and his grandchildren, but William will legally inherit absolutely everything.

There is an inheritance tax exemption for sovereign to sovereign transfers and the RF always use it.

User14March · 08/02/2024 18:16

@Tiddlywinks63 if H inherits say 300 million plus, surely not impossible, he needs never worry again? There’s a vast pot there.
